00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be taking a look at the Galaxy A55 5G.
00:04I wasn't going to pick this up because they're not selling this phone in the United States,
00:09but I have a pretty big international audience.
00:13The reason why they're not selling it in the United States is, I think, because the phone
00:18itself just doesn't make sense here, considering that you can buy a Galaxy S23 FE, which is
00:26going to be better than this phone, pretty much, or just any older flagship.
00:31The phone itself is like $400, and I'll put that link down below, but yeah, I know the
00:36markets are different overseas.
00:39Alright, let's get this out.
00:42This feels much different this year.
00:45This is a, let's see what it is, oh it's a full glass and metal design this year, oh
00:52wow.
00:53So it's full premium design this year.
00:55Nice, it feels very, very like a flagship now.
00:59Alright, so of course, paperwork, SIM tray tool, is there a case in here, nah, and we
01:09get our cable, type C to type C.
01:12Alright, so first impressions of the hardware, again, Samsung with this design, it looks
01:17basically like an S24, and it looks like an S24+, more than ever these days, especially
01:25from the back, and now the design, it's a very sharp phone, especially on these edges
01:29as well, so I'm not sure how comfortable that will be, you know, for long periods of time.
01:36It's not smooth like the older A-series phones.
01:39It's IP67 and dust and water resistant as well too, and yeah, but I'm really liking
01:44how premium it feels now.
01:47So let's go ahead and boot this up and check out the display here.
01:51Alright, so my first impressions of the display, it's a pretty good display for the most part.
01:56It's a 6.6 inch Super AMOLED display, so typically these Galaxy A-series phones are a little
02:02bit smaller, but this one is a little bit bigger.
02:04So it has a Super AMOLED, 120Hz, HDR10+, and I'm only seeing 1000 nits for the brightness
02:11here, so I think that might be the max brightness on the spec sheet, but it's 1080p, 390 for
02:18the PPI, and you can definitely tell, kind of like it's a mid-range phone compared to,
02:23you know, flagships because you'll see a bit of bezel right here as well.
02:27It's not anything too crazy, but it does have that little bit of bezel right there.
02:32But the screen itself is fantastic, it has really great colors, and like I said, when
02:37outdoors it's pretty sunny out, I was able to see the phone no issues.
02:41So the max brightness, like I said, it's not crazy high, but I was able to see the phone
02:46at least.
02:47Overall, you know, I like the display, like I said, completely flat, and like I said,
02:51these Galaxy phones, or the A-series now, is definitely much bigger.
02:55I think they typically were around 6.4 to 6.5 inches, or something like that.
03:01Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about One UI here.
03:05So this is basically the same One UI that we know and love here, and the processor on
03:11here.
03:12So, it's running Android 14 One UI 6.1, it has the Exynos 1480 processor on here, and
03:19you guys can see the Geekbench scores.
03:21So far, it's been relatively smooth for the most part, but it does have a little bit of
03:26like animation lag, and sort of, you know, a little bit jerky from time to time.
03:31But here are the Geekbench scores if you guys want to compare them to other devices here.
03:37But for the most part, the phone has been pretty smooth.
03:40I don't think the performance is bad at all, you know, for first impressions.
03:45Everything is pretty smooth for the most part.
03:47Like I said, sometimes you might have like a little bit of jerkiness with animation and
03:51stuff like that, but as you can see, fairly smooth for the most part.
03:55Like the A54, when it first came out, it was kind of like glitching and kind of slow.
04:00But with software updates, they fixed that.
04:02But this one out of the box, it is pretty smooth, so that's really good.
04:06So yeah, so I do want to go ahead and talk about, and also just one thing to mention.
04:11So you will not get Samsung desktop support, I had a couple questions about that.
04:16That's only for like the premium phones, the mid-range ones don't have it.
04:20But I do want to talk about gaming performance real quick.
04:23Now a big reason a lot of people like these mid-range phones is because they do have microSD
04:27card support, so this does have expandable storage on here as well too, which you can
04:32take advantage of.
04:33The base model is 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM.
04:37But then again, like you guys already know what I'm going to say, you can get an old
04:40flagship with SD card support.
04:43But yeah, a lot of people, if you want something newer, then this would be somewhat of a decent
04:49option.
04:50I'm still on the fence about it.
04:51I'm going to make a few more videos about this comparison and stuff like that.
04:54But I don't think this is a terrible device so far, just my first impressions of it.
04:58Alright, so gaming performance on the A55, it's pretty decent.
05:04It pretty much games how a mid-ranger would.
05:07You can see we have smooth 60 frames on here.
05:11And yeah, like I said, it's not really anything too crazy.
05:15Like I said, an old flagship will definitely do better here.
05:19There's no 90 frames.
05:20And then if you go to HDR, we only have ultra settings.
05:23So yeah, you're not going to get the best settings when it comes to gaming.
05:27I would say if you're more of a casual gamer, if you're not really a competitive gamer,
05:32you would definitely be better off with an old flagship or something like that.
05:35But as far as gaming, for the average person, if you just want to get a couple matches of
05:40PUBG and Call of Duty, you'll definitely be able to play this, no problem.
05:44It just won't be able to play it at max settings and stuff like that.
05:51But yeah, it's pretty smooth and I haven't had any type of heating issues with this phone
05:55so far.
05:57I don't feel like getting warm or anything like that.
05:59So that's pretty nice.
06:00Let's check out these speakers at max volume.
06:24So pretty good speakers on here.
06:26I'm actually surprised.
06:28Pretty good bass quality.
06:29Pretty loud.
06:30The top speaker is also doing a pretty good job as well too.
06:33So not mad at the finger, or not the fingerprint scanner, but the speakers on here.
06:38Now I do want to talk about the fingerprint scanner.
06:39I haven't had the best experience with this fingerprint scanner.
06:42It feels like I have to apply more pressure than I'm used to.
06:47You have to kind of really apply pressure on here.
06:49It's not the fastest.
06:51Even for an optical one, I did redo my fingerprint and I still, it feels like I have to press
06:59this one a little bit harder.
07:01But it does work.
07:02I'm just not used to pressing that hard.
07:05But yeah, the fingerprint scanner, it is fine.
07:07It does work.
07:08You can also take advantage of face unlock as well too.
07:10Alright guys, I do want to talk about the cameras on here as well.
07:14So it's a 50 megapixel standard and a 12 megapixel ultra wide.
07:18There is a 5 megapixel macro.
07:20Again, you're not going to get any type of telephoto lens.
07:23Now you do have 4K 30 for the video and then a 32 megapixel selfie that also shoots in
07:284K 30.
07:29My first impressions of the shots were pretty good for the most part.
07:34I thought this took some really good pictures.
07:37I only kind of noticed like a big difference between these and the flagships.
07:42It's probably like maybe in a low light, it didn't do as good as I wanted it to.
07:47But for a mid-ranger, it took about the photos that you would expect.
07:51Really nice detail, great color, especially if you're in good lighting.
07:55The selfie was actually pretty good, very skin tone accurate as well too, surprisingly.
08:01And yeah, the video was okay.
08:02It was a little bit grainy.
08:04Even in like sunlight, I could tell it wasn't like, you know, it wasn't as good as the flagship
08:09video.
08:10But overall, the image quality I thought was pretty solid.
08:14I don't think anybody would take photos with this phone and say it's a bad phone for taking
08:19photos or video with.
08:21Now like I said, in low light, you know, it was just okay.
08:25But I definitely think this is a solid phone for taking, you know, photos and videos with.
08:44Alright guys, and that is pretty much it.
09:01So my first impressions of this device, it's pretty nice.
09:04I do like the hardware on here, the glass move on the back was pretty nice.
09:11You know, I'm going to do some comparisons, talk about this phone a little bit more.
09:14Would I buy this phone or would I recommend it?
09:17It really depends.
09:18If you live in the USA, I definitely wouldn't, you guys already know.
09:22But I understand like outside markets, it definitely might make sense.
09:27But we're going to go ahead and do some more comparisons, check the phone out a little
09:31bit more.
09:32And yeah, I'll catch you guys in the next one.
