00:56It's finally time you just watch our quick unboxing of the Samsung Z Flip 5.
01:01And we have the phones in two beautiful colors.
01:04But before we move on, let's take a closer look at these phones.
01:07🎵
01:25Okay, so this year, Samsung's hero color is actually this mint flip.
01:30But obviously, you know me, I am loving this pink one.
01:33And before you correct me, yes, I know that this isn't actually pink.
01:36This is the lavender version.
01:38It really still looks pink to me.
01:39And to prove my point that this looks a little bit more pink, let me show you guys the colors side by side.
01:44So this is the mint flip.
01:47This is the powder blue phone, of course.
01:50You have the Razer Viva Magenta.
01:53And this phone, this is supposed to be purple.
01:56This is the purple or lavender Oppo N2 Flip.
01:59Lavender Z Flip 5.
02:01And for comparison, a pink Xiaomi device.
02:04And as you can see, this phone looks more like the pink than it does the lavender.
02:09Point.
02:10Now, we are getting a glossy back on these phones this year.
02:13And that's not necessarily new because last year's Z Flip 4 also gave us these glossy backs.
02:18But I gotta be honest, I am missing that matte finish that I got with my Z Flip 3.
02:23And yes, to refresh your memory, I did get the pink Z Flip 3.
02:28It was a website exclusive color and it came with a black trim.
02:32And that specific phone is still my favorite pink Z Flip compared to this lavender pink phone.
02:38Or last year's gold pink phone that also wasn't very pink.
02:43That being said though, I still think that this is a cute color, whatever this color is.
02:48Even if, again, I still wish that it would be a little bit pinker.
02:52Now, the thing with these new phones and with that new cover screen.
02:56So, if you're looking at this phone from the front, you really won't be able to tell which color it is until you see the back.
03:03And I mean, you could say that the bumpers are sort of matching the phone.
03:08But you really only notice that when I put the two phones side by side.
03:11And if you look at them separately, you sort of can't really tell that's like a purplish border.
03:18Either way, same colors or no, these Z Flips now have a distinct look to them.
03:23But they still sort of feel the same in hand.
03:25It still feels like a very sturdy phone.
03:28You are still feeling that hinge that can basically stay at different angles depending on how you'd want it.
03:36It's still also not supposed to be, you know, flipped out that way.
03:40But I still did it.
03:41And despite this new hinge, it still very much really feels like the same phone.
03:46Like, if I close my eyes, I wouldn't be able to tell that this is the new Z Flip from the old Z Flip.
03:52Because, of course, I wouldn't be able to see, like, the fact that it has a bigger screen up front.
03:56But yeah, this new hinge means there is now no gap.
04:00Which, if you look at it from the side, is a very noticeable difference from the old Z Flip.
04:05Which, yay Samsung, finally!
04:07And unfolded to a Z Flip user.
04:10Like I mentioned in my previous video, I did use a Z Flip 4 and a Z Flip 3 as a daily driver for a while.
04:17And like I said then and I'm saying again now, you don't really notice the crease when you're already using these phones on the daily.
04:24With that in mind, let me just say that I still feel no difference with the new hinge unfolded.
04:30There still is that slight crease.
04:32I still do forget it when I'm using the phone unfolded anyway.
04:39So the main thing about this phone, the great big display.
04:42It's nice and responsive. We'll take a tour of what that does a little later on.
04:46You have your two cameras up front and a flash.
04:49Of course, Samsung branding up here.
04:51On the right, you have your volume rocker, unlock button, fingerprint scanner.
04:56And of course, one of the main things that this phone has been touting, that new hinge.
05:02You don't get a gap and the bottom of this phone has your USB-C port, speakers.
05:07Other side gives you that SIM tray.
05:10Unlocking the phone, you get that foldy screen.
05:14And well, from this point of view really, it's basically very similar to the older Flip experience.
05:21You get speakers up here.
05:23You get that camera in-screen.
05:26And of course, that longer phone form factor.
05:29Always so satisfying.
05:31So how this works, tap to touch.
05:33You get that screen, swipe to the right and you get your widgets.
05:37Of course, we're definitely seeing that you're getting more functionality from this thing.
05:43And this is what I love, absolutely love about this bigger screen.
05:47For example, Ayana sent me this message.
05:49I'm not gonna show you what she sent me but from here, it gives you quick replies.
05:54And you can preset this by the way.
05:56Or you have a QWERTY keyboard and that's actually typable.
06:02Meaning it is tiny but not too tiny that you don't get to type properly.
06:06If you have bigger thumbs than I do, you can also just tap to type.
06:10Hello, I'm sending this via my cover screen.
06:17That's amazing.
06:18And send.
06:19Ayana's gonna get that message.
06:23Definitely quick reply and definitely that QWERTY keyboard.
06:26That's something I've been wanting on the Flip.
06:29Good job.
06:30What's great is that this also works on other apps.
06:33So for example, I just got that notification, swipe to the right.
06:39And I can reply on IG without even opening my phone.

06:48So like you've been seeing, you swipe to the right and you get really, really big notifications.
06:53I like that.
06:54And then you can see these dots over here.
06:57It shows you where you are in the menu.
06:59You get your calendar, you get calls, alarms.
07:02I need the alarms.
07:04You get timer, you get steps.
07:06Smart things.
07:08There's also all these cool apps.
07:10So for example, I love this.
07:11You can now watch YouTube on this teeny tiny screen.
07:14Now, I don't know why you would.
07:16Now, I know a lot of people are gonna hate and they're gonna be like,
07:18why would you watch YouTube on the teeny tiny screen?
07:22But I am definitely someone who would do that.
07:24It's pretty cool.
07:25Look at that.
07:26Cute.
07:28Aside from YouTube, you have WhatsApp on here.
07:30I haven't signed in.
07:31You also have Maps.
07:33And specifically for this app, I absolutely love it.
07:36Because imagine traveling and walking and just not having to flip open your phone
07:41as you navigate your way through this unknown terrain and experiment and adventure.
07:46You get what I'm talking about.
07:48Now, of course, for these apps, they are under Cover Screen Labs.
07:52And it does warn you that these apps might not work as expected.
07:56But you just saw like two different apps working and they look just fine.
08:00Honestly, I'm just happy that it's a possibility now without installing any other app
08:04that forces it on the cover screen.
08:06Now, my favorite thing to work on this phone screen cover,
08:10if I can figure out how to do it, it's Spotify.
08:13So if I decide to play something and no, there will be no audio
08:16because I don't want to get copyrighted,
08:18it will show me the same thing here in that cute little widget at the corner.
08:25And you can also tap that and it'll show you what song you're listening to,
08:29the cover art.
08:30You can move forward.
08:32You can favorite the song.
08:34You can shuffle.
08:35So I like this.
08:37Now, of course, with this form factor come many different ways to use it with your cameras.
08:42My favorite flip phone skill.
08:44And we will talk about all those different form factor iterations you can shoot with
08:49but that comes a little later.
08:51I want to show you what this phone looks first side by side
08:54with all the different other flip phones in the market.
08:59Of course, this is the side by side that you guys have been dying to see.
09:02So we have the Samsung Z Flip 5 and the Moto Razr Plus.
09:06Basically, the two phones in the market competing because they have that full cover display.
09:10As you can see, there is a difference in implementation between the two phones.
09:13The Razr Plus gives you camera cutouts and that full square.
09:18The Samsung Z Flip 5 gives you sort of that folder look.
09:22I would say that the Razr Plus is a little bit more round feeling when you hold it in hand.
09:28So those edges are actually tapered front and back
09:31versus the edges that are flat on the Z Flip.
09:34Side by side, this is how they look.
09:36So the Razr Plus is actually a little longer and just a little bit thinner.
09:41From this angle though, they look very similar.
09:44Although the sides will show you those tapered sides on the Razr Plus
09:49versus the flat ones on the Z Flip 5.
09:53And the back, of course, you get that textured back on the Razr.
09:57And this is how the bottom of both phones look.
09:59Of course, these two phones also implement their cover screens differently
10:05which is quite interesting.
10:06And let me know if you want a full-on comparison between these two phones.
10:09Anyway, let's look at them unfolded.
10:12I mean, again, of course, the Razr Plus is a little taller and a little thinner.
10:18And this is what it looks like.

10:25This is the Oppo N2 Flip and the Huawei Pocket.
10:28Obviously, they both have cover screens but now very, very tiny
10:33compared to the cover screen of the Z Flip 5.

10:41Now, there is another folding phone that's not in the mix right now.
11:00There is a folding phone from Vivo but unfortunately, we do not have that in the studio.

11:06Right, let's get to the cameras.
11:09So, it's camera tour time.
11:11And to fully commit to the whole flex form factor, I'm gonna be shooting with a flip.
11:16And this is what we look like right now.

11:21You can actually turn on the preview.
11:23So, this is actually flip section right now that we're doing.
11:27So, what you do is you can access the camera from here.
11:32And you swipe to the right, you get portrait.

11:38You can adjust your blur here and then swipe to the right.
11:45That's a photo.
11:46Can you like zoom in?

13:37So it depends on how you want to shoot your video.
13:41If I want to shoot a cover screen TikTok, I can do this.

13:53If I wanted to shoot a YouTube video with a cover screen, I can do that too.
13:58Anyway, this form factor is pretty nice in that if I decide to shoot this way, you can.

14:11If I for some reason decide that I want to dangle my phone at the edge of some table, you can.
14:19And that camera is so easily reachable.
14:22Press double tap this and you can just get to it.
14:27It says here I can touch and hold to move the shutter button.
14:31So if I do this, I can move it to the other side, hold the phone here, and tap for a photo.
14:37But let's say I want it here.
14:40That works too.
14:42Now when we unfold to cancel, you get that selfie camera now.
14:48That, that, let me show you.

14:54We were against the light so I fixed it.
14:56Now you get wide.

16:12Because there's just so much from these phones.
16:16And all the different types of ways you can shoot.

16:30Here are some really quick sample shots from today.
16:43Out of all the flip iterations that I have since covered.
16:48The Z Flip 5 is probably the most significant upgrade that we've seen since the Z Flip 3.
16:53And the Z Flip 3 was the pivotal moment when Samsung decided they were going to put a bigger screen up front.
16:59I am specifically loving the added functionalities that this bigger screen brings.
17:04If only for that and especially for people who've been looking to get the clamshell foldy.
17:08Specifically and especially because they want to be able to use the phone closed.
17:13I think this is one of the phones that you should be checking out.
17:17At this point I'm excited to play with these phones more.
17:19I've yet to decide because I haven't played with this phone enough.
17:22Or the other flip phone enough.
17:24I'm excited to test out this phone more.
17:26And of course at this point I've yet to see if the cameras have improved on this phone from the previous Z Flip.
17:31And considering that from the Z Flip 3 to the Z Flip 4.
17:34The cameras did improve even without the hardware upgrade.
17:37I'm excited to see just how these cameras perform.
17:39Of course with any flip, I'm excited to test out just how the flip form factor adds on to how I use these cameras.
