00:00Welcome along to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Some sunshine around this afternoon, but there are also a fair few showers around as well.
00:09The first picture from space this morning showed quite a bit of sunshine on offer, but we already had some showers over northwest England and especially western Scotland.
00:18They have kept going. We'll see more heavy downpours whizzing through here on a fairly brisk wind.
00:23We're also seeing showers now developing across Northern Ireland, scattering across Wales also.
00:29Through the course of the afternoon, a few more likely to develop to the east of the Pennines, but much of East Anglia and the southeast and indeed the southwest will stay dry and fine with some sunny spells.
00:39Lifting the temperatures up into the low 20s, so around about average for the time of year.
00:44Obviously, it'll feel cooler as the showers come through across western Scotland, where they will be fairly frequent on that brisk wind.
00:51And we'll see a few more developing over northeast Scotland this evening before they all tend to fade away.
00:56So for many places, it'll become dry and clear. Notice some heavy rain close by to Paris there.
01:01That may affect the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
01:04By morning time, we are looking at some thickening cloud coming in from the Irish Sea into parts of south of Scotland and northwest England,
01:11but elsewhere generally dry ends to the nights with clear skies a bit fresher than recent nights as well.
01:17Temperatures in some rural spots down to single digits, most towns and cities between about 10 and 13 Celsius.
01:23Onto the weekend, and for quite a few of us, Saturday starts fine and sunny.
01:28The main exception to that will be this corner of northwest England and southernmost parts of Scotland.
01:34Could be some quite heavy bursts of rain here through the morning time.
01:37So if you're heading across the lakes, for example, be prepared for some pretty heavy downpours first thing on Saturday morning.
01:44A few showers elsewhere across Wales, and we'll see more of those developing as we go through the day.
01:48And it's here where we could quite easily see a few thunderstorms develop, particularly by the early part of the afternoon,
01:55maybe into the West Midlands also.
01:57And northeast England also likely some heavy showers during Saturday afternoon.
02:01But for Northern Ireland, fewer showers than today.
02:04And western Scotland also far fewer showers here.
02:07Plenty of sunny spells. East Anglia and the southeast may see one or two.
02:11But again, here I suspect much of the day will be dry, fine and sunny.
02:14And here's where we'll see the top temperatures, 23, maybe 24 in the capital.
02:18A cooler day across parts of northern England and Wales with more cloud and more showers.
02:23Probably feeling a bit warmer tomorrow in Edinburgh at 21 Celsius, that's 70 Fahrenheit.
02:28As we go through Saturday evening, still a few showers around early on.
02:32Still one or two heavy ones in places, particularly over the Midlands.
02:35But they should tend to fade away.
02:37Look at that, many places becoming dry as we go through Saturday evening.
02:41And that leads into a fine day on Sunday.
02:44And the reason for that is because this is arriving.
02:48A large area of high pressure building in across the country.
02:53And likely to stick around for a few days into next week as well.
02:57Weather fronts try and push in, but they are mostly kind of pushed away to the north.
03:01They kind of fizzle out as this high pressure holds on.
03:05That means we're also likely to see the temperatures rising.
03:08Ticking up a little bit on Sunday.
03:10But as the high starts to edge to the east, we could tap into some warmer air wafting up from the south.
03:17So that's something to watch.
03:19Likely to see some higher temperatures, particularly for England and Wales.
03:22But even further north, we will see rising temperatures as we go through into next week.
03:27We want to keep an eye on them, so make sure you stay up to date.
