24 June - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, a hot spell of weather this week, nothing unusual about it, fairly typical for this
00:06time of the year.
00:07But because summer so far has been a little cool, it will be quite noticeable.
00:12High pressure is allowing the temperatures to tick ever higher.
00:15The cooler air is out in the Atlantic behind this set of weather fronts that are slowly
00:19creeping towards us and will bring a cloudier day tomorrow across Scotland and Northern
00:24Ireland.
00:25In fact, the cloud increasing for those weather fronts across the Western Isles.
00:27But for most places dry, it's far from sunny everywhere, quite a lot of cloud over Wales
00:31and southwest England.
00:32And the cloud will bubble up further over the Midlands and eastern England this afternoon
00:35as well.
00:36But dry and bright and certainly in the sunshine across East Anglia and the southeast, temperatures
00:41likely to get to 25, 26, maybe 27 or 28 in the capital and many places in the mid 20s.
00:49Pretty pleasant day all in all in that sunshine.
00:51UV levels though are high, grass pollen levels are also high.
00:56We will see a few changes through the evening and overnight.
00:58That thickening cloud from that weather front bringing some rain into the highlands later
01:02on.
01:03Maybe a little bit of patchy rain getting into the west of Northern Ireland.
01:05But for most, it stays dry.
01:07Again, some mist and low cloud possible close to the south coast and temperatures again
01:13holding up.
01:14Quite a warm night for England and Wales, 14, 15, even 16, the low in some urban areas.
01:20So uncomfortable for sleeping as we head into Tuesday morning, though most places again
01:25set fair across England and Wales.
01:27But a different day for Scotland and Northern Ireland, much more cloud here compared to
01:31today.
01:32And there will be some rain at times over particularly high ground, but even across
01:35the eastern to the central belt of Scotland could be some showery rain at times as there
01:39may be for Northern Ireland.
01:40Some brighter spells developing on the west coast later on, probably brightening up over
01:44the Northern Isles and the Western Isles too.
01:47But for most of England and Wales, like today, some areas cloudy and the possibility of one
01:51or two heavy showers breaking out late in the day over the hills of Northern England.
01:56But most generally fine, probably a sunnier day for Wales and southwest England and as
02:00a result, a slightly warmer day here.
02:02Again, the hotspot probably in the capital could get to 29, even 30 degrees Celsius and
02:08quite widely over the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast, temperatures in the high
02:1320s.
02:14Whereas it will be a cooler day for Scotland and Northern Ireland compared to today because
02:17there will be more cloud around.
02:18But still here, particularly in the east, getting into the low 20s, that is above average
02:22for the time of year.
02:23This map shows the temperatures compared to the average for the middle of June.
02:28You can see western areas just fairly close to average.
02:31It's central and eastern parts where we'll see the temperatures significantly above average.
02:36We'll continue with some of that rain across central and eastern Scotland during Tuesday
02:40evening.
02:41One or two isolated, but potentially heavy showers over Northern England fading away.
02:44For most, it stays dry and fine.
02:47For many, it will be hotter still on Wednesday.
