00:00Hello there and welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Now through today, cloud and outbreaks of rain across the north but temperatures will be slightly higher
00:09further south with some sunshine as this ridge affects these parts.
00:13This is the weather front skirting southwards into the early hours of Friday morning.
00:17Stronger winds on Friday, particularly across eastern counties and also some showers
00:21before high pressure moves in for the weekend.
00:23Now let's have a look at the detail through this morning.
00:26If you are stepping out across western Scotland, you'll see some outbreaks of rain
00:29which will be persistent as we head through the day.
00:32Brighter skies across Aberdeenshire, Angus, down towards southern counties in Scotland,
00:35northern England as well, a chilly start here.
00:38More clouds for northern Ireland, the odd spot or two of rain can't be ruled out.
00:41But for the bulk of England and Wales, it's a fine morning.
00:44It's a chilly one but you'll see some sunshine.
00:47One or two showers just clipping Essex as well as Kent even so, elsewhere it's dry.
00:53So through the morning we watch as the cloud slowly moves its way eastwards across Scotland
00:58with that some outbreaks of rain.
01:00The persistent rain will always be across western Scotland and eventually the far north-west of England
01:04and this rain will only just skirt the far north of northern Ireland.
01:08So for many areas it's a bright morning with some sunshine and we hang on to the sunshine
01:13across central and southern parts of England and Wales through into lunchtime.
01:17However, notice this cloud slowly rolls in across Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire
01:22and then hot on its heels, some outbreaks of rain.
01:25You can see this rain just clipping the far north of northern Ireland
01:28but some brighter echoes representing some more persistent rain across western Scotland.
01:32But for eastern Scotland, in shelter from the highlands, that rain will wax and wane.
01:37For Shetland and Orkney, stronger winds here, outbreaks of rain through the afternoon.
01:41Notice the Midlands, mid Wales could see the odd spot or two of rain towards evening time today
01:46but temperatures in the far south could reach 14 or 15 degrees Celsius.
01:51So here's this weather front, these are the strong winds through this evening
01:55and also some showers following the rain.
01:58It weakens as it pushes its way southwards.
02:00So a damp night across England and Wales, showery across Scotland
02:04and quite a lively night particularly across the far north-east
02:07where we'll see coastal gales possibly elsewhere.
02:11Yes, a bit of a breezy one.
02:12Temperatures holding up, not as cold as the last few nights
02:15and first thing on Friday morning, always more clouds across central and southern parts of England and Wales
02:20courtesy of this cold front but it clears towards the low countries.
02:23And then the air remains relatively cool across most parts
02:26but high pressure builds from the west keeping things a bit more settled into the weekend.
02:31Yes, we could see more clouds across the far north of Scotland
02:34and into Sunday the chance of some showery bursts across the far east.
02:38So let's take a look at Friday.
02:41Yes, tomorrow it's going to be a rather breezy day.
02:44Windy across more eastern counties extending down towards eastern counties of England
02:48and showers will develop in situ so a scattering of showers through the afternoon.
02:52Frequent bursts across central and eastern areas.
02:54Dry skies further west later under the influence of high pressure
02:57as temperatures rise to around 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.
03:01So this wind will be fairly relentless on Friday afternoon into evening time
03:05but as we head into the weekend things calm down.
03:08As I said there could be more rain across the far north.
03:11Some sunshine generally, some chilly nights
03:13and then come Sunday a few showery bursts possible in the east.
03:16I'll see you later.
