00:00Hi there. Brighter skies are on the way as high pressure finally moves in from the west,
00:05just in time for the start of the weekend. But for the time being, we've started Friday
00:09with a lot of cloud and a cool gusty wind from the north-north-west. And that will continue
00:16and it will continue to drive some showery rain southwards, so parts of northern England
00:20into the Midlands, south-east England seeing some downpours into the afternoon, one or
00:25two showers also for parts of Scotland, north-east England. Further west, that's where the
00:29brightest skies will develop into the afternoon, Northern Ireland, Wales, central-southern
00:34England, some decent sunny spells. And as a result, we've got this east-west divide
00:40in how it will feel, I suspect, with the cool breeze and 11 Celsius on that North Sea coast.
00:46But somewhere like Hampshire, 16 or even 17 Celsius in any sunny spells, that will feel
00:52very pleasant indeed. The cloud does tend to disappear into the evening, one or two
00:57showers still going, but most places dry with lengthy clear spells after midnight. And the
01:03winds also ease away from the north and east coast. As a result, temperatures are going
01:08to fall away. A fairly chilly night actually. Gardeners, beware. In urban areas, three or
01:14four Celsius. In sheltered parts, for example, Northern Ireland, north-west England and parts
01:18of Wales, down to minus one to minus three Celsius. Could be one or two misted fog patches,
01:25especially for Northern Ireland, first thing, under this area of high pressure, which is
01:30increasingly going to dominate the weather through Saturday. Slap bang over the UK. But
01:36it's not plain sailing because there are weather fronts that will just drape over the north
01:40of the UK to bring some thicker cloud for the far north of Scotland. And then later
01:46on, some outbreaks of mostly light rain. There'll also be the odd shower, I suspect, drifting
01:52in from the North Sea to affect eastern parts of England. But those aspects aside, most
01:57places are going to have a dry day. A sunny start, cloud filling in, I think, somewhat
02:02across East Wales, the Midlands into Northern England. The best of the sunshine will remain
02:06across Northern Ireland, West Wales into the south-west, perhaps the south-east as well.
02:12And although temperatures are not going to be particularly exciting, 10 to 13 Celsius,
02:17perhaps 14 in one or two spots like Northern Ireland, it is going to feel warm in any sunny
02:24spells with the light winds. Same can't be said for the north of Scotland, where it is
02:29turning increasingly damp through the evening. That rain steadily pushing further and further
02:34south along with the thickening cloud associated with that weather front as well. So that by
02:39the time we get to Sunday, we've got a cloudier picture across many parts of the UK. Still
02:44some sunny spells in the far south-east, south-west Northern Ireland, for example. But this finger
02:48of cloud and light rain will affect Northern England into the Midlands, perhaps as far
02:53south as the south-east for a time before it eases off later. So a dull and damp day
03:00for parts of Northern England into the Midlands and Wales, whilst brighter skies remain away
03:06from that area. And temperatures again up to 14 to 15 Celsius in the west, 10 or 11
03:14in the east, could hit 16 or 17 for parts of Northern Ireland. That's where the warmest
03:19weather will be over the next few days. We'll keep you updated right here at the Met Office.
03:24Bye-bye.
