00:00Hello, welcome to the latest from the Met Office. Snow flurries like this will become
00:03more likely for some of us over the next 24 hours or so as the cold weather persists across
00:10the UK. You can see the blues on the map, that's showing that cold air stemming from
00:14northern Scandinavia, so particularly cold origin. Throughout Wednesday afternoon, this
00:18cold front will skirt along north-eastern coasts, bringing that risk of snow showers.
00:24And then throughout tonight, we see this frontal system, it's an area of rain that will bump
00:27into the cold air, bringing a risk of snow to the higher ground mainly across parts of
00:31Devon and Cornwall. So we do have some warnings in force throughout Thursday morning, Wednesday
00:37night into Thursday morning, for snow and ice. We could see snow accumulating over the
00:41high ground of Devon and Cornwall, as well as eastern areas of Scotland and north-eastern
00:46England as well, and some icy stretches across parts of Northern Ireland. So if you do live
00:52in these areas and you are travelling in the morning, it's worth taking a look at our web
00:57or app for more details on this. Even though we do have snow and ice warnings in force,
01:03there is going to be a good deal of sunny and dry weather around for some areas throughout
01:07this afternoon, particularly north Wales, parts of central England into north-western
01:11England as well as Northern Ireland. Some particularly crisp autumnal sunshine once
01:16again, but it's going to be feeling colder than yesterday. These are the daytime maximum
01:20temperatures, only around 3 or 4 degrees for many areas, so staying rather chilly despite
01:25any sunshine into the afternoon. Snow showers across eastern areas will then start to pull
01:31further inland throughout tonight, accumulating over the high ground and bringing some icy
01:38stretches on the road. We could also see some icy stretches across Northern Ireland, and
01:42then you notice this area of rain. There's some particularly heavy bursts in there in
01:45the south-west, and as that bumps into the cold air, you can start to see some snow accumulating
01:50over the high ground of Cornwall, so parts of Dartmoor into Devon as well, across Exmoor
01:55we could see a couple of centimetres. There could also be a little dusting across lower
01:59levels as well by the time we get to Thursday morning. Minimums tonight will be low once
02:05again, so as low as minus 8 rurally, but many towns and cities still dipping below freezing,
02:10so a really chilly start to Thursday, and we do have those ice warnings in force, so
02:14take care if you are travelling in these areas. Elsewhere though, another dry and bright start,
02:20particularly across central and western areas of the UK. There could be some mist and fog,
02:24some freezing fog across south-eastern areas, that should clear by the afternoon. A frost
02:30will persist across north-western areas, so another chilly day tomorrow. Maximum temperatures
02:36again, 3 or 4 degrees, maybe 6 at best. And then as we head through into Thursday evening,
02:43the area of rain across the south that will have persisted through much of the day will
02:47slowly start to sink southwards and clear away for Friday, whilst showers will continue
02:52across north-eastern areas. So there's a further risk of snow and ice across north-eastern
02:58areas and some further warnings in force. You can find more details on our warnings
03:02on our webinar, and make sure you don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel. I'll
03:05see you later.
