23 February - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Good evening. On Saturday many of us will see plenty of dry and bright weather
00:05but there are still a few showers to come through the rest of the evening.
00:09We've got low pressure in charge that's brought us a fairly unsettled day
00:12particularly across western areas. Throughout the course of the night though
00:15that low pressure does tend to fill and our isobars will slacken so the winds
00:19will be much lighter and it should be slightly more settled on Saturday but
00:23we've still got the much colder air with us so temperatures are going to continue
00:27to stay much closer to seasonal average for this time of year. So still some
00:31showers to come particularly across the south coast through this evening. We'll
00:35see some quite gusty winds through the English Channel as well but elsewhere
00:38things should turn quite a lot drier through tonight. We'll see plenty of
00:41clear skies developing as well and where they do develop it's going to turn quite
00:45cold quite quickly. We got down to minus six across parts of Aberdeenshire last
00:50night. Could see similar temperatures again by tomorrow morning but also parts
00:54of rural Wales also seeing temperatures as low as minus four by tomorrow morning
00:58and there'll also be some mist and fog around particularly across central areas
01:02some low cloud too so potentially a bit of a murky start but I think many of us
01:06will see some good sunshine to start the day despite the chilly start. So the best
01:11of the sunshine will be through the morning particularly across eastern
01:14areas through the day as well however cloud will start to bubble up as the day
01:19progresses so the sunshine will become a little bit more intermittent and there
01:23is a risk of the odd isolated shower through the afternoon. Showers could
01:27break out just about anywhere across the country but getting to the time of year
01:31where we can see these the cloud bubbling up allowing those showers to
01:34develop but I think they will be much lighter and much shorter live than any
01:38of the showers we've seen through today. In between any showers and any cloudier
01:42spells there will be some fairly pleasant sunshine as well. Temperatures
01:47climbing to around eight or nine degrees which isn't too bad for the time of year
01:51but again it is still a bit cooler than it has been through the rest of the week.
01:54So through the evening temperatures will drop away quite quickly once again clear
01:59skies across the UK the cloud will thicken across the southwest so elsewhere
02:04it will be turning a much colder another very frosty start to the day on Sunday
02:09morning again there's a risk of some mist and fog to start the day as well.
02:13The rain across the south will tend to push further north throughout Sunday so
02:18southern areas are probably going to see a damp day particularly compared to
02:22Saturday there is still some uncertainty in how far north this rain pushes but
02:26it's likely anywhere south of the M4 corridor will probably see some rain at
02:31least through the morning and into the afternoon. Further north though it is a
02:34clearer picture probably a cloudier day than Saturday but still some sunny spells
02:39to be had particularly across northern areas of Scotland and temperatures
02:43again seven eight or nine degrees. Then on Sunday evening we'll see that rain
02:48continue to affect southern areas but it will slowly but surely push away to
02:52the south and east to start the new working week to bring us a chilly but
02:56drier start to the week. See you later.
