00:00Thanks for joining me for this Met Office weather update.
00:03This afternoon, fairly grey.
00:05And for many of us, we'll see some wet weather as well.
00:07It will mostly be rain, but there is some snow still falling
00:10over northern Scotland.
00:11Here's the bigger picture from space.
00:13And you can see one, two swirls of cloud,
00:16two areas of low pressure that are dominating our weather.
00:21These weather fronts have been slowly pushing northwards,
00:23bringing wet weather, but also behind it,
00:25introducing slightly milder air.
00:27But much of Scotland is still in the cold air.
00:30And so as the wet weather works in here,
00:32we are still seeing some snow over the higher
00:35ground of northern Scotland, where
00:37we have a Met Office yellow warning in place.
00:38With a gusty wind blowing here, that means blizzards possible.
00:42So that makes for some pretty tricky driving conditions,
00:45particularly on those higher routes.
00:46A little bit of snow is likely for a time at lower levels
00:49as well.
00:49But through the central belt and further south,
00:51it is all rain that we see.
00:53And it's not going to rain everywhere all day.
00:55There'll be some brighter spells through the Midlands,
00:57sunshine.
00:58And we've got the milder air in place across the south.
01:00Temperatures could get into the teens.
01:02It's a slightly warmer day over northern England
01:04and southern Scotland, but still feeling pretty cold here,
01:07and especially feeling cold across northern Scotland
01:10with that gusty wind.
01:11And so we'll continue to see some hill snow here
01:14through the nights.
01:15And again, it could be icy in places also.
01:18Elsewhere, we'll see further outbreaks
01:20of rain for parts of Northern Ireland, northern England,
01:23and southern Scotland.
01:24We'll see some showery rain working away
01:25from eastern England.
01:26So actually, a good part of England and Wales
01:29becoming dry for a good part of the night.
01:32With clearing skies, could turn a little misty in places.
01:34And temperatures will drop well down into single figures.
01:37But most places will be above freezing
01:40as we start the weekend.
01:41Certainly feeling very cold, though,
01:43still in northern Scotland with that strong and gusty wind
01:46only slowly easing.
01:47We'll also start to see the winds picking up
01:49in the southwest as we go into the weekend.
01:51And showers expected here to develop pretty quickly
01:54over southwest England and south Wales.
01:56Further rain across central and southern Scotland.
01:58Further snow on the hills of northern Scotland.
02:00But through the day, becoming increasingly confined
02:03to the tops of the hills.
02:05Still pretty windy in the far north as well.
02:07But for a good chunk of the Midlands, north Wales,
02:10northern England, eastern England,
02:13and a large part of northern Ireland,
02:14it'll be a dry and a bright day on Saturday.
02:16We'll see some winter sunshine coming through.
02:19And that milder air will be continuing to trickle
02:22its way northwards as well.
02:23So temperatures, for many, should
02:25be a little bit above average.
02:26But with the showers in the southwest and the gusty winds
02:29here, it'll probably feel a little cooler
02:31and still that cold air in place across the far north.
02:33But for many, we'll get to double figures.
02:3510, 11, 12, perhaps even 13 in one or two spots.
02:38During Saturday evening, not a great deal of change.
02:41We'll see a few more of these showers moving in.
02:43You can see a low pressure circulation here.
02:46And that weather front still lingering
02:48across the extreme north of Scotland
02:49through the northern isles in particular.
02:51It's still quite wet and windy even into Saturday night.
02:55So still low pressure in control during Sunday.
02:58But it has pushed that colder air further and further north.
03:01So pretty much all parts of the UK in that milder air
03:04by the time we get to Sunday.
03:06It is still February, however.
03:08So it's still going to feel pretty chilly
03:09when the showers come along.
03:10And with low pressure dominating,
03:12there is always the likelihood of some showers during Sunday.
03:16The rain perhaps clearing away from Shetland
03:18and then bands of showers drifting in from the west.
03:21The potential for a bit more wet weather
03:23to come back into parts of the east.
03:25But I think it'll be a murky old start over eastern areas.
03:28Mist, low clouds, and fog around on Sunday.
03:30That could take quite a while to clear away as well.
03:33And a few more showers developing
03:35through the day across parts of Wales, Western England,
03:37and Western Scotland.
03:39It is a messy old weekend then.
03:41Temperatures on Sunday, again, high single figures,
03:44maybe double digits across parts of the south.
03:46So perhaps turning a little cooler
03:48as we go through the course of the weekend.
03:50Do keep up to date with the latest.
