00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It's rain or showers for the rest of the week, turning colder on Friday.
00:10Before that, though, you can see here it's a breezy night.
00:14The air remains relatively mild, particularly across England and Wales,
00:17whereas you can see these blues migrating in across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:21Eventually, the cold air will cover most of the UK
00:24and a real squeeze on the ice bars towards the northwest with some gales.
00:28However, come Friday, this low centre here will develop, bringing cloud, rain and also hill snow
00:35moving up towards Scotland as we head into Saturday morning.
00:39More about that in a moment.
00:41For the time being, through Wednesday evening, some quite lively weather outside
00:46with outbreaks of rain which could intensify as it tracks across northern England,
00:51Wales moves down towards the Midlands as well as central southern England and the southeast.
00:56At the same time, some clearer skies across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:59eventually northern England and west Wales,
01:01but a lot of showers moving in across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland,
01:05particularly towards the west as gales pick up across the far northwest.
01:09Those showers will be heavy and they could merge to form longer spells of rain through Thursday.
01:15Through Thursday morning, then, this is the rain anywhere from the Severn Estuary towards Fenlands,
01:20pushing southeastwards through the morning but lingering on, an overhang of cloud as well.
01:25Some scattered showers move in across Wales, the west country, a few for northern England through the day,
01:30but frequent bursts across northern and western Scotland,
01:33merging to form a longer spell of rain and lots of showers for Northern Ireland as well.
01:37In shelter across eastern Scotland, northeast England, you should see some brighter skies,
01:41temperatures here 7, 8 degrees Celsius, putting cold in that wind,
01:44hanging on to double digits though across much of England.
01:48Now through Thursday evening, that rain continues across eastern counties before clearing.
01:53Elsewhere, showers will come and go.
01:56They'll be fairly scattered, but notice across Ireland, this is that next system that I spoke about.
02:01This is a band of clouds and showery rain.
02:04The rain could be heavy as it encounters some colder air,
02:07and the air is turning colder across the UK.
02:09We'll see it turn to snow, particularly across the Welsh mountains, maybe the moors,
02:13and then pushing up towards more northern areas as we head through Friday.
02:17Before that, though, a widespread frost across most places into Friday morning.
02:21A cold start, but a clear one for Scotland.
02:24Central and eastern areas of England also seeing some clearer skies.
02:27Now, this is your bigger picture, your synoptic outlook for Friday.
02:32You can see here that low pressure and bands of showers dumbbelling around them.
02:37So through Friday morning, watch out for some heavier pulses of rain
02:41with that snow above around 250 metres, pushing towards Pennine districts.
02:47Rain at lower levels, but even at lower levels in any heavier bursts,
02:51we could see some wintryness as we head through the day.
02:54A bright day across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:56Showery bursts across the far west of Scotland before thickening cloud through Friday evening
03:01brings with it some rain and snow to central and eastern areas of Scotland.
03:06Again, it's really over the higher ground where we'll see some accumulations
03:10and further showers tracking across more southern areas through Saturday morning.
03:15So wherever you are through the weekend, pretty much the name of the game is showers.
03:19Low pressure sits across the UK and frequent bursts coming through on Saturday morning
03:24across more northern and western areas of Scotland down towards Northern Ireland.
03:28So it's sunshine and showers on Saturday.
03:30Some frequent, as I said, and intense bursts of rain.
03:33Feeling cold in that breeze. Fewer showers, though, on Sunday.
03:36I'll see you later.
