00:00Hello there. Further wintry showers are pushing their way in from the north-west and it does
00:05bring the continued risk of snow and ice overnight into the start of Tuesday and weather warnings
00:10are in force. The first snow and ice one for particularly upland areas of Scotland where
00:15the wintry showers but then a slightly more organised band of snow into Tuesday could
00:19bring 5 to 10 centimetres over higher ground levels, maybe even a few centimetres down
00:23to around 200 metres. Further ice warnings for Orkney, Shetland but then also the western
00:29isles down into north-western areas of England as well where those wintry showers start falling
00:33on frozen surfaces. Certainly some icy stretches could be possible where ground has been untreated
00:38so you just take care when you're heading out first thing on Tuesday and ice scrapers
00:43may be needed. Otherwise eastern areas generally staying drier throughout the night and certainly
00:48central south eastern areas of England will get away with a prolonged dry night with some
00:52good clear intervals. Under those clear intervals though temperatures will be dropping away
00:57and for many of us we'll be getting down towards that zero degree mark and a frost is certainly
01:01possible particularly across areas of Scotland where we'll be dropping as low as minus six
01:06Celsius over lying snow. Further to the west the cloud will be building and so we might
01:11just see temperatures rise ever so slightly towards dawn on Tuesday but it's still going
01:15to be a fairly chilly evening and first half of the night before that. In regards to this
01:21frontal system then that's moving in that is all down to what's happening over in North
01:25America. We've seen that cold plunge of air across Canada and into the United States and
01:30it's the temperature difference between this cold air and the mild air in the south that
01:34is fuelling this powerful jet stream that fast ribbon flowing of air high up in the
01:39atmosphere. As the jet stream then pushes its way across the Atlantic it's going to
01:43be driving weather fronts and low pressure systems towards us so the rest of the week
01:47is looking fairly unsettled with bands of rain at times showers there might be some
01:52drier intervals in there as well but the next weather fronts are never really too far
01:56away. So let's rewind the clock back to the start of Tuesday and focus on our first weather
02:02front. It's going to be a fairly soggy start to Tuesday across Northern Ireland and that
02:07frontal system just continuing to push its way eastwards. As it moves into the colder
02:11air ahead of it that's when we see it readily turning to snow over those higher ground areas
02:15of Scotland. Generally following us rain further south but it is going to be a fairly damp
02:20and wet day for North West, South West England and Wales as well where we could really see
02:24those rainfall totals totting up. Gales developing through the Irish Sea as well so it's going
02:30to be a fairly blustery day and not the best one to be getting out on that bank holiday.
02:34Further to the south and east it will turn cloudier but slightly drier and as those winds
02:40start coming up from the south it will be a milder day. Climbing to highs in the double
02:43digit figures across Southern England and even 9 degrees across Central Scotland and
02:47Northern Ireland where we'll see some sunnier spells develop later on throughout the afternoon
02:52once that rain has cleared off. Into Tuesday evening then that frontal system continues
02:57to shift its way south and eastwards across central areas of England and South East England
03:02as well. Lingering for a time across Northern Scotland before it shifts its way towards
03:06Shetland but you can already see that next frontal system already pushing into the South
03:10West. So particularly where we hold on to cloud and rain here it is going to stay fairly
03:15mild overnight again holding up around 8 degrees or so. Further to the north of that
03:22where the rain has cleared its way off it will probably turn slightly chillier and perhaps
03:26still Apache frost developing across areas of Scotland. But it will be a fairly cloudy
03:31start to Wednesday and we'll see that rain gradually shift its way up and could be a
03:36bit of a washout for some as that rain just sort of continues throughout the day. Generally
03:40sort of Scotland won't really see the rain until later on so certainly the central belt
03:43northwards we'll see a dry enough day to head outside but it will be a fairly cloudy
03:49one nonetheless. As that rain moves in again we're going to see the wind strengthening
03:53so further gales possible around coastal areas and over the hills particularly across southern
03:58areas of England so you just take care if you're heading out in any of those locations.
04:03Underneath that rain and cloud another mild day with those winds coming up from the south
04:0711, 12 degrees across southern areas of England. To the north of that where we hold off the
04:13rain it will just feel that slightly bit cooler there where we're still in that colder
04:17air 5, 4 degrees across northern areas of Scotland. So it is set to be a fairly unsettled
04:25and wet week particularly across western areas where we'll see those rainfall totals continue
04:29to tot up but generally eastern areas staying slightly drier where you are further sheltered
04:35but further rain is possible at times. Do keep up to date with the forecast and any
04:39warnings that may be issued as those fronts move towards us and you can do that by following
04:44us on all of our social media channels and we'll be back with you shortly. Bye bye.
