00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office weekend weather forecast.
00:04Following recent storms and, on Thursday, wintry showers, the weather this weekend is
00:09looking a bit more settled for many places.
00:13Ridge of high pressure building in for much of the country, but weather fronts always
00:16closer to north-western parts and the isobars there are really quite close together for
00:22the north-west of Scotland.
00:24And so it's a breezy day on Saturday for many, bright and breezy for much of England, Wales
00:30with sunny spells and staying dry.
00:33But for Scotland and Northern Ireland, thicker clouds, some spots of rain coming through
00:36in that south-westerly breeze, particularly over the higher parts of western Scotland.
00:42Any more persistent and heavy rain staying away throughout the daytime on Saturday, but
00:46it will be increasingly windy.
00:47Gales for the Western Isles and for Shetland, with wind gusts of 50mph or more in exposed
00:53spots and feeling cool in that wind, but actually temperatures higher compared to recent days,
00:589, 10 Celsius fairly widely.
01:01And plenty of sunshine there for the southern half of the UK.
01:05Now this cold front approaches during Saturday night, it pushes through Ireland into western
01:11Scotland as a very active feature, some heavy and persistent rain, some gusty winds associated
01:16with it.
01:17And that's how we wake up on Sunday morning with those outbreaks of rain and hill snow
01:20for Scotland into parts of west Wales and the south-west.
01:23But quite quickly the front runs into area of high pressure and it diminishes significantly.
01:29So by the afternoon it's an area of cloud through central parts, some outbreaks of light
01:35to moderate rain, but it becomes more showery and there'll be a better chance of drier weather
01:39developing quite widely by the afternoon.
01:42We keep the sunshine in the south-east and increasingly brighter skies return to western
01:46Scotland, Northern Ireland, west Wales and the south-west behind the weather front into
01:50the afternoon.
01:51And it's going to be less windy on Sunday, at least at first, temperatures reaching 10
01:56or 11 Celsius in the south, 8 or 9 further north.
01:59It does turn increasingly windy then as we end Sunday and there'll be some heavy rain
02:03turning up later as well.
02:05But for much of the weekend, for many places there'll be a lot of dry weather, it's just
02:09going to be fairly windy, especially in the north-west.
02:12Bye bye.
