00:00Hi there. After a week dominated by low pressure, below average temperatures and a lot of rainfall,
00:08it is positive to see an area of high pressure moving in from the west. But, wait a minute,
00:14it's actually heading to the north of the UK and not directly over the top of the country
00:19and that means there is still some influence from low pressure, especially in the upper
00:23atmosphere with an upper low sitting over the UK, there's going to be lots of rising
00:27air. Having said that, some places will get away with a mostly dry weekend. That can't
00:33be said for the east of the country, especially south-east Scotland, north-east England, where
00:38we're going to see a lot of low cloud and some outbreaks of rain on and off through
00:41Saturday. Brighter skies will be more prevalent further west, north-west Scotland seeing some
00:47sunny spells, parts of south Wales into the south-west also seeing some sunshine. But
00:51as the temperatures rise on Saturday, there will be a scattering of heavy showers developing,
00:57particularly towards the south-west, north-west England, northern Ireland for example. These
01:01will be hit and miss however and some places will avoid them, staying dry but temperatures
01:06across the board tending to be below average once again. 20 Celsius in the south and south-west
01:12but just 13 or 14 in the North Sea coast where we've got this breeze coming in from the north.
01:18And you can see the extent of the wet weather on this rainfall accumulations graphic. This
01:23shows the 12 hour accumulations between 6am and 6pm on Saturday. And this broad area of
01:29blue colours just indicates that persistent damp weather that we're expecting across northern
01:34and north-east England, perhaps into parts of Norfolk, north-east Scotland as well. No
01:38huge amounts but it's going to be a dull and damp day nevertheless. With the showers more
01:44likely elsewhere, you can see the speckled nature of the rain accumulations across northern
01:47Ireland, Wales and the south-west. So very hit and miss, some places getting heavy downpours,
01:52other places avoiding them and staying dry which is indicated by the white colours here
01:56for example, south-east England, western Scotland. So very variable amounts of rain on Saturday
02:01but certainly not as widely wet as we saw earlier in the week. And with high pressure
02:06still close by on Sunday, it's still going to be a lot of fine weather but not entirely
02:11dry. Still low pressure to the east and another low starting to approach from the west and
02:16the jet stream once again sitting to the south of the UK. So we've got this cool side of
02:21the jet stream that the UK is sitting on and this rising air across the country. Having
02:25said that, Sunday starts with plenty of sunshine across much of England and Wales although
02:29north-east England as well as southern and eastern Scotland are still seeing a lot of
02:33low cloud and some drizzly rain for a time but much of that's moving into the North Sea.
02:38Once again there'll be showers developing through the afternoon especially across some
02:42central and southern parts, northern Ireland for example, but these will be even more hit
02:47and miss compared with Saturday's showers and as you can see there's plenty of dry weather
02:51away from those showers with some places just avoiding them entirely and staying dry
02:55and bright with temperatures responding well actually on Sunday. It's a warmer day by two
03:00or three degrees for most, 23 Celsius possible in the south, feeling a little more humid
03:05and temperatures recovering in the north-east although still with a lot of cloud it's going
03:09to feel more humid but it's not especially going to be warm where we've got that cloud
03:13cover, 17 Celsius most likely. So a mixed weekend to come but certainly a chance of
03:19some dry and brighter weather compared with earlier in the week although that wouldn't
03:22be too difficult would it?
