28 October - National weather forecast presented by Aiden McGivern.

00:00Hi there. A lot of the cloud that we've seen during Monday will stick around overnight
00:05and that means it's going to be a mild but grey start to Tuesday. Any rain, though, will
00:12tend to fizzle in many places. There is an area of rain moving south-eastwards that disappears
00:18largely by dawn. There'll still be some patchy rain, particularly over western hills and
00:22coasts, but otherwise a drier night to come compared with the previous night, but still
00:27a lot of cloud cover and, as a result, a mild start to Tuesday. A couple of exceptions
00:32to the mild theme. Eastern Scotland, fairly well-broken cloud and some decent sunny spells
00:39first thing Tuesday. Also, there'll be some cloud breaks coming and going across southern
00:43England and south Wales. They'll become more extensive into the afternoon. So, gradually
00:48after a murky start, things do start to cheer up and, in fact, Tuesday afternoon looks a
00:53little brighter in many places compared with Monday afternoon. So, some sunny spells coming
00:57through and, well, we do get the sunshine, 16, 17 or even 18 Celsius, and with light
01:02winds feeling very pleasant indeed. However, although things brighten up through the afternoon
01:08for Shetland, the rest of north-northwest Scotland will see thick low cloud and some
01:14persistent damp weather moving in during the afternoon. That will continue for the first
01:18part of the night. Again, western Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland also seeing some
01:22patchy light rain. Otherwise, largely dry further south, aside from the odd shower
01:27here and there, and with some clear spells developing more extensively on Tuesday nights
01:33compared with Monday nights. I think we'll see some mist and fog forming by dawn and
01:38certainly lower temperatures compared with the start of Tuesday. Nevertheless, higher
01:43pressure is in charge over the next few days. That builds through Tuesday, sticks around
01:47through Wednesday, and under that high light winds, with any clear spells, we will see
01:53those mist and fog patches first thing Wednesday. They'll clear and then, as you can see, there's
01:59less cloud around on Wednesday, but there's a lot of uncertainty, as is often the case
02:04with slow-moving areas of higher pressure and a maritime influence about where the areas
02:09of cloud will end up. This is the best estimate at the moment. Eastern Scotland, north-east
02:15England, faring well for some sunny spells. Likewise for southern parts of England and
02:20south Wales. Big areas of cloud floating around fairly aimlessly elsewhere with those light
02:27winds. And so, yes, it's not going to be sunny everywhere, but there will be an increase
02:32in sunshine once any early mist and fog has cleared. It's not quite as mild on Wednesday,
02:36but 13 to 15 Celsius generally, and feeling pleasant enough with light winds, and we've
02:42got some sunny spells. The winds will pick up later on across the north and north-west
02:46of Scotland, a breezy night to come heading into Halloween, but Halloween itself looks
02:52mostly dry with some sunny spells and some decent clear spells and dry weather for anyone
02:58trick or treating. Bye.
