This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 29/08/2024. After a mostly fine Friday, for many the fine weather will continue on Saturday but heavy possibly thunder showers will push up from the south. These are likely to become more widespread on Sunday, especially for central and eastern parts before band of rain arrives from the west for Monday. 00:00I'm not really ready for autumn to start, but at least meteorologically speaking, it
00:05is going to this weekend, even if there will be a summery feel to things at times.
00:10And we will have a summery feel on Friday, high pressure firmly in control, lots of fine
00:15settled weather around, a decent amount of sunshine too, and just some showers most likely
00:19towards the far north of Scotland.
00:22But we stick with the high pressure as we go overnight Friday into Saturday, lots of
00:26clear skies for many places, just some heavy possibly even thundery showers starting to
00:31push into the far south as we head towards dawn on Saturday.
00:35With the clear skies away from the far south, temperatures will take a bit of a drop, it
00:39is going to be a bit of a fresh night for some of us, particularly away from towns and
00:42cities I am expecting temperatures to dip into single figures.
00:46As we go through Saturday itself, the showers across the far south will become a little
00:51bit more widespread, but it's going to be mainly across southern counties where we have
00:55the risk of some heavy possibly thundery showers.
00:58They will be relatively hit or miss, so many places actually avoiding them, and even here
01:02there will be some sunny breaks, but the best of the sunshine, the best of the dry sunny
01:06weather will be across central northern parts of England and Wales into Northern Ireland
01:10and Scotland too.
01:12Here it is likely to stay pretty fine, and with the sunshine, the sun does still have
01:17some decent strength behind it as we go through the end of August, and so temperatures will
01:22rise mid to high teens quite widely, low possibly mid-twenties for some places, but
01:26do bear in mind that UV levels will still be high for some.
01:30Later on as we go through Saturday evening and overnight, we will see the high pressure
01:34drifting away towards the north northeast a little bit.
01:37There is a front out towards the west, that's not going to bring us any rain for the time
01:41being.
01:42The thing that's going to bring us more rain perhaps will be the heavy showers that could
01:47start to push into the southeast as we go overnight into Sunday.
01:50Again, it is going to be a largely dry night for many places, but a bit more cloud around
01:55and some warmer, more humid air coming in from the south, and so perhaps towards the
02:00north northwest we may get into single figures, but for many it is going to be a warmer night
02:05Saturday night into Sunday.
02:07And with that then, on Sunday again we have the risk of some heavy, possibly thundery
02:11showers.
02:12Now, where we're most likely to see them will change compared to Saturday.
02:16Most likely down the eastern side of England as these showers push their way northwards,
02:20but some uncertainty, they could push a little bit further west into more central parts for
02:25a time.
02:26But bearing in mind that actually we'll probably see something a bit brighter, some sunny spells
02:30developing towards the south once those showers make their way further north.
02:34Elsewhere, away from these showers affecting eastern, possibly central parts, Sunday doesn't
02:38look too bad.
02:39A bit more cloud than on Saturday, but we do have some warmer air and so temperatures
02:44if anything may be a little bit higher, could be very warm across some parts of the south,
02:49mid, possibly high twenties perhaps, if we do get any bright or sunny spells developing.
02:54Now I mentioned this front in the west earlier on.
02:57It is set to then eventually make its way across the UK as we go through later on Sunday
03:02and then spread its way eastwards as we go through Monday.
03:06So a bit of wet weather to start the beginning of next week.
03:09Thereafter, there is some uncertainty.
03:11We could see high pressure developing, which is most likely, but no guarantee.
03:17If we do see that high pressure developing, then we could have some fine settled weather
03:21through next week.
03:22However, there is the chance that we could stick with something a bit more unsettled
03:26with some further rain, perhaps even some thunderstorms at times.
03:29So definitely worth staying up to date with the forecast wherever you are.
