This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 09/05/2024.
The fine and sunny weather much of the UK has been having recently will continue into the weekend, and with that it will feel very warm. However some shower and possibly thundery rain I likely in the west on Sunday with more unsettled weather to come next week. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00 Hello, many of us have some fine dry and sunny weather at the moment. Will it last into the
00:05 weekend? Yes. Will it last through the weekend? No. Things are going to turn pretty wet as
00:10 we go through Sunday and into the beginning of next week. However, starting off and if
00:15 we quickly look through Friday, a mostly dry day for many of us. Yes, some mist and fog
00:19 patches perhaps first thing, but most of these will clear quite quickly and then a decent
00:24 bright sunny picture as we head into the afternoon. And like I said, staying dry for the majority
00:28 of us, one or two showers can't be ruled out perhaps and a little bit more cloud, some
00:33 outbreaks of rain for Shetland. Otherwise, with the fine sunny weather, it is going to
00:37 feel pretty warm. Temperatures likely to be a little bit higher than on Thursday in the
00:41 south southeast. We're looking at highs of around 24, 25 Celsius and even further north
00:46 across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, just about getting into the low 20 Celsius.
00:51 Why is it so settled at the moment? Well, it's because of high pressure. This high pressure
00:55 has been over the UK through much of this week. However, it is going to start to shift
00:59 away towards the east as we head into the weekend. That being said, we're still going
01:04 to be under the influence of it as we go into Saturday. So a quiet start, though some low
01:08 cloud around some North Sea coastal parts and perhaps towards the far northwest of Scotland
01:13 elsewhere, a few pockets of mist and fog first thing on Saturday. But these will quickly
01:17 burn back with some decent fine sunny weather developing as we go into the afternoon. There
01:22 may be a few showers developing over the higher ground of northern England in particular,
01:27 and if they do, they could turn heavy and thundery. But most places will avoid these
01:31 and most places will stay largely dry. Again, a decent amount of bright and sunny weather
01:36 around and with that temperatures rising even further could get to highs of around 25 or
01:41 26 Celsius towards the east. Though worth bearing in mind around some coastal parts,
01:46 it will feel a little bit fresher than this. The high pressure continues to dominate our
01:51 weather as we go into Sunday, but we are losing the influence of it as it edges a little bit
01:57 further eastwards. And as it does so, we start to see some systems pushing in from the west.
02:01 Nonetheless, Sunday gets off to a similar start to Saturday for many places. Yes, some
02:06 low cloud around coastal areas, a few pockets of mist and fog, and then it's going to be
02:10 fine, especially towards the east into the afternoon. But further west, we will see some
02:15 showery rain developing and this could turn heavy and possibly even thundery. There may
02:20 not be quite as much showery rain as the graphics behind me are showing and it may not be quite
02:26 as intense, but there is the potential for some torrential downpours and like I say,
02:30 some thundery outbursts as well. Towards eastern areas, a greater chance of staying dry, bright
02:35 and largely sunny and with that temperatures rising possibly even higher than on Saturday,
02:41 highs of around 26 or 27 Celsius. Even elsewhere, temperatures still well above average for
02:46 the time of year, but obviously it's going to feel a little unpleasant if you do catch
02:51 any downpours. As we go into the beginning of next week, that high pressure really has
02:55 drifted away and so we've lost its influence. And as a result, there'll be very showery
03:00 rain overnight into Monday before an area of low pressure pushes its way in from the
03:05 southwest and that is going to bring some wet and windy weather as we start the new
03:09 working week. And that's the theme through much of next week. To be honest, it's looking
03:13 pretty unsettled. There'll be some heavy rain, some strong blustery winds, also some thundery
03:17 showers too and temperatures are going to be dropping closer to average for the time
03:22 of year. With the risk of some thunderstorms as we go through into next week, make sure
03:26 you check out our weather ready pages on our website for advice on how to stay safe and
03:31 make the most of the summer months. I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
03:34 Bye.
