This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 16/05/2024. Though there is a risk of showers this weekend, many will see plenty of dry and warm weather. Showers are most likely on Saturday, when they may turn thundery. An onshore breeze will keep things cooler across eastern coasts and the mornings will likely be fairly cloudy for most. Sunday brings more promise of sunshine but again a further risk of showers. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Annie Shuttleworth.

00:00 Hello, well it's certainly not going to be as warm and sunny this weekend as it was last
00:04 weekend, but there's still a good offer of some sunshine, but also a continued risk of
00:10 showers, particularly on Saturday. It does look like it could get a bit drier for Sunday
00:14 and into Monday, but the pressure pattern at the moment is a fairly slow moving one.
00:19 We've got high pressure out to the southwest and low pressure from this week still to the
00:23 southeast by the time we get to Friday evening, and that low pressure is going to continue
00:27 to spread its influence, pushing this weather front into southeastern areas throughout Saturday
00:32 morning. But we've still got mild air across us, so in the sunshine it will still feel
00:36 warm this weekend. But that weather front across the southeast will bring some persistent
00:40 rain first thing. That could turn a bit more showery and it will push westwards through
00:44 the day into parts of southwestern Wales, the southwest of England as well. It will
00:49 turn a bit drier across the east coast as the day goes on. We could also see some showers
00:53 breaking out once again across central areas of Scotland. These could turn heavy and possibly
00:58 thundery. So do take care if you are in these areas because you could see quite a lot of
01:02 water falling in a short period of time. In the sunshine, temperatures will climb towards
01:07 the low 20s. But if you are exposed to that onshore breeze with a bit more in the way
01:11 of cloud lingering across the east coast, temperatures will be a good five or so degrees
01:16 lower across these areas. So a bit of a cooler feel at the coast, especially where you've
01:20 got that onshore breeze and will be developed more of a north easterly breeze as that high
01:23 pressure pivots around to the southwest of the UK. That does move the low pressures further
01:28 away so it will. The shower risk is lower on Sunday compared to Saturday, but there
01:33 is still a risk of some showers. Now, with that northeasterly wind direction will drag
01:38 in a bit more in the way of cloud overnight on Saturday night. So it's like to be a fairly
01:41 dull start to the day, especially across northern and eastern areas. There will be a good amount
01:47 of sunshine as the day goes on about sunshine, as I said, will allow a few showers to break
01:51 out. But I think the shower risk is much lower and there'll be fewer of them. But once again,
01:56 they could turn fairly heavy across parts of Scotland into the afternoon. But in the
02:00 sunshine, it's not going to feel too bad at all. Temperatures a little bit above average
02:04 for the time of year, 22 degrees across the west. But where we do have the onshore breeze
02:09 closer to 11 or 12 degrees, so quite a difference from east to west through Sunday. Remember,
02:15 though, it doesn't have to be particularly warm at this time of year for UV levels to
02:20 be high. So make sure you are heading out this weekend. You are protected and whatever
02:25 you're up to. I hope you have a great weekend. Bye bye.
02:27 Love you.
