This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 15/08/2024. After a week of heat and heavy rain, there’s more in the way of dry weather on the cards for the weekend. It won’t be wall to wall sunshine but a fine weekend for getting out and about away from the far north of Scotland. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Annie Shuttleworth.

00:00Hello there. After a pretty mixed week, this weekend is actually looking pretty dry and
00:04fine for many of us. Not too bad for the latter part of summer. Why's that? Well, we do have
00:11a fairly active jet stream at the moment, but it's split as we head into this weekend.
00:15Low pressures centred up to the north of the UK, so there will be some more unsettled weather
00:20across the far north of Scotland, but actually this split jet stream will allow fairly settled
00:25conditions through a lot of the weekend. High pressures not too far away from the south
00:30as well, but that will change as we head into the end of the weekend and the start of next
00:36week. But for the time being, as we start the weekend on Friday evening, plenty of fine
00:41and dry weather, particularly across England and Wales. Across the north, as I said, we
00:45are closer to that low pressure, so risk of some showery outbreaks of rain through Friday
00:49night. But for many of us, clear skies and we've got fairly fresh air as well, so temperatures
00:53will be much lower than they have been lately. We could see quite widely temperatures down
00:58into single figures across England and Wales, particularly across western areas, and also
01:03some patchy mist and fog developing overnight across parts of England. Now, the showers
01:08will continue across parts of Scotland throughout Saturday, but I think most of you will get
01:13away with a dry day through Saturday. Cloud will push in from western areas to the best.
01:18The sunshine will be across the east, eastern areas of Scotland, eastern areas of England,
01:22as well as some eastern areas of Northern Ireland, seeing plenty of sunshine as well.
01:25And as a result, temperatures in these areas will be a little higher than elsewhere. So
01:30the highest temperatures across eastern England, 24 or 25 degrees. We could be into the low
01:3520s across eastern areas of Northern Ireland and Scotland too. But where we're exposed
01:39to the breeze, particularly across western areas of Scotland and the high ground in northern
01:43England, temperatures will be down in the lower teens. But it will be fairly fine as
01:49we head into Sunday as well. Still plenty of cloud around. I think a mixture of clear
01:53spells is likely. You're not going to see long-lived sunshine through much of this weekend.
01:57But as I said, it should stay dry. Still a few showers floating into northern areas of
02:02Scotland, but most of them will be fairly light. And with clear skies once again on
02:07Saturday evening, temperatures falling away quite low into the single figures for many
02:13rural areas, towns and cities just about in double digits. So a fresh but fairly bright
02:17start to Sunday as well. Still a few showers moving in across northern Scotland. It's going
02:22to be very little change between Saturday and Sunday. I think there might be a slightly
02:26stronger breeze though affecting the western isles. But elsewhere, the winds remain largely
02:31light throughout the weekend. The best of sunshine once again across eastern areas,
02:36but still plenty of sunny spells here and there. And temperatures climbing up into the
02:40low 20s, 21 to 22, quite widely across England and Wales. Again, 25 or 26 possibly across
02:47eastern areas of England. Not much fresher where the winds stay a bit stronger. Now,
02:52there is a bit of a change, as I mentioned, on the way to the start of next week. This
02:56split jet stream will merge into one stronger area of jet stream and that will allow more
03:02unsettled weather to spread across the country. So we're back into wet and windy weather from
03:07Monday afternoon onwards. And later on in the week, we could see the remnants of Hurricane
03:12Ernesto, which could mess things up a little bit. But stay tuned for plenty more details
03:17on that all through the weekend. And you can do that by subscribing to our YouTube channel.
03:21See you again soon. Bye bye.
