00:00 Hi there, as far as this weekend's weather is concerned, one thing that most of us will
00:04 have in common is it will be a fine start to the weekend before cloud and rain moves
00:10 into some places. There will be some cloud and rain overnight Friday, mostly in the form
00:16 of showers, blustery showers for the north and north-west of Scotland, a continuation
00:20 of what we've seen through the day. Much of this ease is later in the night, still the
00:24 chance of a shower or two further south across north-west England and west Wales for example,
00:28 but for the vast majority actually it's a clear night. Winds will ease, the lightest
00:32 winds will be towards the south and south-eastern here, a few mist patches couldn't be ruled
00:36 out first thing Saturday, and it will be a cool start to the day, some might call it
00:40 chilly because temperatures in some northern parts where we've got some shelter into the
00:44 low single figures, perhaps a touch of grass frost. A bright start then with this area
00:48 of high pressure in charge, but the next low comes along, sending a weather system into
00:53 this central swathe of the UK from central Scotland and towards north Wales. And so for
00:59 most of us, Saturday starts off bright before that rain comes in. There will be a few showers
01:03 for west Wales again, but also one or two for northern and western Scotland, otherwise
01:08 it's sunny skies for the vast majority, it stays bright into the afternoon for northern
01:12 Scotland, the Midlands, east and southern England, but elsewhere the cloud builds and
01:18 the rain arrives, that rain heavy and persistent across northern Ireland, southern Scotland,
01:23 north-west England and north Wales, accompanied by a strong wind, risk of coastal gales around
01:27 some of these exposed Irish sea coasts, and certainly feeling fairly unpleasant as those
01:33 conditions arrive. But towards the south and south-east, still some warm sunny spells,
01:37 19, 20, even 21 Celsius, likewise bright skies continue for the north of Scotland, less breezy,
01:44 fewer showers compared with Friday. We've still got that rain with us as we go into
01:48 Saturday night, it's going to push further north into the rest of Scotland, also pushing
01:53 some outbreaks of rain into the rest of Wales and south-west England, albeit mostly light
01:58 and on and off. Towards the south-east it stays clear, although with a bit more of a
02:02 breeze around, I don't think we'll see many mist patches as we begin Sunday, but we will
02:06 see rather a lot of cloud, that cloud will be covering the hills in the west, so some
02:10 hill fog around and some coastal murkiness as well. Nevertheless, it is going to be a
02:15 much warmer night compared with the preceding night, temperatures in the mid-teens in the
02:20 south, and for northern Scotland with some clear spells here, single figures but only
02:25 just I suspect. Into the start of Sunday, outbreaks of rain clearing Shetland, and outbreaks
02:32 of rain also continuing across northern and western England for a time as well as Wales.
02:36 But this system does sink south and it weakens, so by the afternoon it's mostly across the
02:41 Midlands into the south-west of England where we'll see some drizzly outbreaks of rain.
02:46 Brighter skies emerge elsewhere and plenty of sunny spells through central parts, so
02:51 after that wet and windy Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon is looking much more promising.
02:56 Still some showers though for north and north-west of Scotland, northern parts of Northern Ireland
03:00 where it will be fairly blustery as well, and it's going to feel cool with that breeze,
03:05 but still some warmth ahead of the rain in the south-east, 21, perhaps 22 Celsius. Heading
03:11 into the start of next week, it stays fairly mixed with showers or longer spells of rain
03:16 at times, and we'll keep you updated on all of that right here at the Met Office.
