00:00Hi there and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the week ahead.
00:03Following a cold and wet first half of July, this week we're back to something more typical
00:09for the UK in July.
00:11Now that doesn't mean seven days of hot weather and it doesn't mean seven days of rain either.
00:17A bit of rain, a bit of warmth, some sunshine, some showers.
00:22High pressure near the Azores will occasionally extend towards the UK to bring some fine interludes.
00:27Low pressure near Iceland will occasionally allow some showers or longer spells of rain
00:32and sometimes, as is the case on Tuesday morning, the jet stream will just dip far enough south
00:39to bring a weather front or two.
00:40And we do start off Tuesday with this weather front, although it's a showery feature by
00:44dawn.
00:45It's going to bring a lot of cloud across southern parts of the country and those showers
00:50moving through, breaking up as the morning goes on.
00:53A bright start for Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England, North Wales.
00:56However, the cloud will build and most places will see one or two showers developing, but
01:02by the afternoon those showers are starting to ease away and they're going to be mostly
01:06focused across central and eastern parts, especially the Pennines into the Midlands
01:10and South East England.
01:12Away from the showers, some sunshine and it's going to feel warm enough in that sunshine
01:16with highs of 25 Celsius in the south, 22 further north.
01:22Now, later on Tuesday, we're going to see that ridge of high pressure from the Azores
01:27extend to bring a fine 24 hours or so across many parts of the UK before this frontal system
01:34turns up later in the day and into Thursday.
01:37So a fine, bright start to the day on Wednesday, plenty of sunshine first thing.
01:42There will be some showers developing across eastern parts of England, the odd sharp shower,
01:47heavy downpour possible, and more widely the cloud does build into the afternoon to dim
01:52the sunshine.
01:53There will be one or two showers for western and central Scotland and northern England.
01:56But actually fewer showers compared with Tuesday, plenty of dry and bright weather and it's
02:02going to be slightly warmer, slightly more humid as well, 26 Celsius there in the south
02:06east, 21 or 22 again further north.
02:10Here's that wriggling frontal zone that turns up for Thursday and it contains a lot of moisture,
02:16a lot of humidity, and as a result, a lot of low cloud and clag across many southern
02:21parts of the UK, in particular from the word go on Thursday, coastal mist and fog for southern
02:27and southwestern parts, drizzle, and then longer spells of heavier rain developing into
02:32the afternoon here.
02:34Further north, they won't be quite as wet, but there will still be some heavy showers
02:38around, especially later in the day across Scotland, northern Ireland, and northern England.
02:44And by the mid to late afternoon, that rain is pushing east.
02:48But there's a bit of uncertainty at the moment in terms of the timing of the heaviest rain,
02:52a few hours in terms of error bars on this system, so don't take the graphics too literally.
02:57Either way, it's a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, crossing the country
03:02west to east.
03:03That's going to have a limiting effect on the temperatures, but it's still going to
03:06feel quite humid where the cloud does thin from time to time.
03:11Friday starts off a lot brighter and drier for many of us, but we're going to see further
03:15showers developing, especially in the north where those showers will be frequent and heavy.
03:20Northern and western Scotland prone to the heaviest downpours.
03:24Further south, the showers fewer, but still one or two around, and the cloud building
03:29into the afternoon.
03:30But, where we get some sunshine again, up into the low to mid-twenties.
03:33So temperatures through this week, not far from average, certainly warmer compared with
03:37July so far.
03:39We're into the mid to high teens further north, so a cooler day here compared with previous
03:43days.
03:44Now, Friday sees low pressure to the north-west of the UK, still got this ridge of higher
03:49pressure towards the south-west, and in between, perhaps a weather front or two, but there'll
03:53be weaker fairs.
03:55And it's again a fairly showery airflow that will start the weekend with the most frequent
04:01showers affecting northern parts of the UK, fewer showers further south, and some sunny
04:05spells in between.
04:08Into Saturday and into Sunday, this ridge of high pressure moves in to bring more settled
04:12and perhaps warmer weather on Sunday, and into the very start of next week.
04:17We'll have all the very latest of course on our YouTube channel, or on our other social
04:21media channels.
04:22Bye bye.
