00:00Hello, and welcome to the Met Office Week Ahead forecast. It's the lead up to the Easter
00:05weekend and the weather in many places is turning warmer and drier. In fact, it's already
00:11warmer than it has been for some time with warmth spreading up from the south around
00:16this area of low pressure. But with low pressure to the southwest, we're also seeing weather
00:21fronts move north across the country and that's how we start things on Tuesday. A mild start
00:25but a lot of cloud in the sky. Outbreaks of rain pushing through northern England into
00:30southern Scotland, parts of northern Ireland and then further rain to come for parts of
00:36eastern England into the afternoon. So, some persistent rain for many on Tuesday afternoon
00:42but particularly for central and eastern Scotland, northern and eastern England. Otherwise, the
00:46skies brighten across western parts of England, Wales, perhaps northern Ireland and as the
00:52sun comes out, the clouds bubble and we're going to see some lively showers take place,
00:57perhaps even some thunder and hail for Wales and the southwest. That's actually where the
01:02warmth will be focused on Tuesday afternoon, mid to high teens. Otherwise, it's going to
01:08feel quite cool, I think, towards the northeast with this onshore flow and the persistent
01:13rain there for eastern Scotland, making it feel quite unpleasant. That rain's still there
01:18across northern and eastern Scotland on Wednesday morning. It's eventually petering away to
01:23the north and then for many, lighter winds and a bit more sunshine to come. So, on the
01:28whole, feeling more pleasant. High teens, low twenties. Some showers developing though
01:35on Wednesday afternoon, some heavy downpours in places and then on Thursday, this low starts
01:41to approach and it's moving into a ridge of high pressure so it's slowing down but it
01:46brings its weather fronts in from the west. So, for many, it's a dry start to Thursday
01:51but it's a gloomy start. A lot of low cloud, mist and fog, particularly around western
01:55and southern coasts. Now, through the day, the skies will brighten for many. Sun will
02:00come out but in the west, the clouds thicken, if anything, and we'll see some outbreaks
02:05of rain into northern Ireland, perhaps a few spots for western Scotland and then later,
02:10the far southwest. Feeling cool under that cloud cover towards the west but otherwise,
02:15looking at mid to high teens widely, perhaps as high as 21 Celsius for London or just to
02:21the north of London but still this cool northeast or southeast of the airflow for the far northeast
02:26of Scotland. This weather front, as I mentioned, it's slowing down as it pushes into high pressure
02:32as it's moving in from the west. So, really, it's bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain
02:37to similar areas for Good Friday. Again, a grey and misty start for many. A lot of cloud
02:43around for northern and western parts of the UK and some outbreaks of rain. Some uncertainty
02:48at the moment, how much rain exactly we'll see, especially towards Wales and the southwest.
02:54Could even see one or two showers elsewhere as well as the afternoon warms up. But towards
02:59the east, once again, the greatest signal for sunny spells and higher temperatures.
03:0522 Celsius there for London and the southeast, mid to high teens elsewhere, this warm southerly
03:12airflow. And we keep the similar airflow heading into the long weekend. High pressure forming
03:19over Scandinavia around that high, generally fine weather for much of the UK and a warm
03:27airflow from the near continent. But towards the northwest, away from that high, we could
03:32still see some thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain at times. So, on the whole, Easter
03:37weekend is looking drier, more settled and warmer for many, but still some rain in a
03:43few spots.
