00:00Hello, and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the week ahead. During the past week,
00:05some parts of the UK have seen impacts from wind and rain. Fortunately, this week isn't
00:10looking so impactful. There'll still be some showers in places, particularly northern and
00:14western coasts. But in between the showers, sunny spells and under clear skies at night,
00:19it will be fairly chilly in places because this low, which brought us some very unsettled
00:23weather at the weekend, is moving away. Behind it, we've got this much colder northwesterly
00:28airflow. It's been bringing showers to many parts of the UK on Monday. But as the low
00:33moves away, the winds tend to ease a bit more overnight, particularly in the south. And
00:38as a result, we start off Tuesday with a few missed patches in the south. They'll lift
00:42and then decent sunny spells actually. And after a fairly chilly start to the day, pleasant
00:48enough in any sunny spells. But showers will get going just about anywhere. However, they'll
00:52be most frequent in the north and the west around coasts. And that brisk breeze continues
00:59in the north and west with the wind feeling on the cool side. Temperatures at nine to
01:04eleven Celsius across Scotland and Northern Ireland, Northern England, twelve to thirteen
01:09further south. Out of the wind, in any sunny spells, pleasant enough. But temperatures
01:14fall away again overnight. Touch of frost in places, I think. As we start off Wednesday,
01:18we'll get a bit of shelter from the wind. But there will still be some showers coming
01:22through on Wednesday, particularly around coasts. And this time, I think the east coast
01:27is likely to see a few showers coming in at times from the North Sea and perhaps pushing
01:32inland as well. So just about anywhere catching a shower on Wednesday. But they'll be most
01:37frequent around coastal areas in between. Plenty of sunshine. And again, that cold feel
01:42compared to what we've experienced during the past few days and weeks. That cold feel
01:48because the wind is coming from the north. You can see the blues there arriving from
01:52the north of the UK. And as a result, another frosty one in places on Thursday morning,
01:58certainly in rural spots, we'll see temperatures dipping just below freezing. There'll be a
02:03few showers as well, first thing. Areas of cloud drifting south across the UK. But actually,
02:08by Thursday afternoon, I think many places drying up. There'll be fewer showers, a better
02:13chance of some sunny spells coming through, particularly inland. However, it is another
02:18cold one, 7 to 11 Celsius, typically. Probably a few places a degree or two colder compared
02:24to Tuesday and Wednesday. Now, a change on the way towards the far north and northwest.
02:30These weather fronts toppling in on Thursday night, bringing some mainly light outbreaks
02:35of rain initially. The wind also picking up here. But further south, a ridge of high pressure
02:40builds in. So for many, a dry, fine start to Friday. Again, a chilly start in southern
02:45areas. But on the whole, cloud topples its way southeastwards across the UK. And after
02:51a damp start in the northwest, the rain turns heavy and persistent by the afternoon across
02:56northwestern and western Scotland in particular. One or two spots of rain possible further
03:01south, mainly in the west, but otherwise plenty of dry weather. The further south you are,
03:06the more unsettled weather holding on there to the northwest. Into the weekend, some uncertainty
03:11about this little waving weather front. It may well oscillate back and forth across northern
03:17parts of the UK, but it looks likely that this weekend will turn very unsettled across
03:22northern areas with strong winds and heavy rain, particularly in the northwest of Scotland.
03:27And further south, it will stay largely dry and it will also turn a little milder. Follow
03:33us on social media and we'll keep you updated with all the latest. Bye-bye.
