00:00Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:02The weather's been chopping and changing all year,
00:04and that continues this weekend with a wet and windy spell
00:09of weather crossing the country on Saturday
00:11before things turn drier and brighter for most of us
00:14on Sunday, although there will still be some showers around.
00:18What's going on?
00:19Well, the bigger picture shows weather front
00:21steaming in from the Atlantic.
00:23This will bring the wet and windy spell on Saturday,
00:25then a drier slot before something similar arrives
00:28during Sunday night and into Monday.
00:31If we rewind the clock, though, and put the temperature
00:33profile on, you can see that's also chopping and changing
00:36quite a bit.
00:37We start with cold air sitting across the UK.
00:39A set of weather fronts will bring something
00:41milder overnight and at first on Saturday
00:44before things then turn a bit colder again.
00:46But this wodge of really warm air
00:49will really lift the temperatures on Monday.
00:53But that's a few days off.
00:54Let's get back to the here and now,
00:56because pretty cold conditions through Friday night,
00:59a frost forming fairly sharply.
01:00And where we've seen showers through the afternoon
01:03and evening, that could lead to some icy conditions.
01:05So just take that.
01:07Just note that if you're heading out in the car
01:09or on the bike through this evening.
01:11Roads and pavements could be a little bit slippery in places.
01:14But then as we go through the second half of the night,
01:17the frost disappears as that first set of weather fronts
01:20moves in, bringing clouds and rain and some hill snow
01:23over northern hills and more particularly across Scotland.
01:26But also, those weather fronts will
01:28be introducing that milder air.
01:30So yes, a frost through the evening.
01:32But by dawn, most places back above freezing
01:35and well above in the southwest.
01:37Mild air here, but also turning windy and pretty wet.
01:41For most, then a fairly soggy start to the weekend.
01:44Cloud and rain shifting in, but also
01:46tend to pull away quite quickly from Western Scotland,
01:49Northern Ireland.
01:49The sky is starting to brighten up here.
01:51Some heavy snow for a time over the higher routes
01:53across Scotland.
01:54But again, that does clear through.
01:56Further south, though, the rain is going to be quite heavy.
01:59Some brighter colors there.
02:00Pulses of heavy rain working from west to east
02:03through the day, accompanied by some lively gusts of wind.
02:06Could get very gusty, particularly
02:08along the south coast.
02:09And although it does brighten up, particularly in the west,
02:12there will be showers here too come the afternoon.
02:15Chiefly of rain, but some snow in the showers
02:18across the hills and mountains of Western Scotland.
02:21Much of the east, though, does turn drier and brighter
02:23to end the day.
02:24And temperatures, well, actually as the wet weather clears,
02:27will tend to drop away.
02:28So 9 or 10 in the morning across the south,
02:31and by the afternoon, 7s and 8s and further north.
02:34Temperatures also tending to dip down a little bit
02:36through the afternoon, and certainly into the evening.
02:39So again, as temperatures fall, it
02:41could be icy once more on Saturday evening, where
02:43we've got the showers coming in, particularly into the west.
02:47Much of the east staying dry and fine.
02:49And that east-west split likely to continue into Sunday.
02:53So more showers, but quite a wet start
02:55for southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:57And we'll see the showers pepping up over western parts
03:00of England, and for a time, across Wales during Sunday too.
03:03Not many showers across the south, and certainly much
03:05of the east dry and bright, and turning brighter and sunnier
03:09across western Scotland and Northern Ireland
03:11during Sunday afternoon as well.
03:13But a mixture of sunshine and showers,
03:15broadly covering Sunday's weather,
03:17but generally a drier day, certainly across the south
03:20compared to Saturday.
03:21And temperatures close to average for the time of year.
03:24Again, for a time, could get up to double figures
03:27across the southwest.
03:28And it will be turning milder on Sunday night,
03:30and as we head into Monday.
03:32As I said, lots going on, chopping and changing weather
03:35patterns.
03:36So keep up to date with the very latest
03:38by following the Met Office across social media.
