00:00Hello. Welcome to your latest national weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Blue sky and lots of sunshine. That's what's on offer through the rest of today.
00:08And for most of us on Saturday as well.
00:11Now, there is some clouds spilling in around the top of an area of high pressure,
00:15bringing hazy sunshine across parts of Scotland, particularly in the far north.
00:20But even here, it's brightening up. There is a bit of a breeze picking up across western Scotland,
00:24the breeze strengthening a little on the south coast of England.
00:27But for most of us, it is a cracking day if you like spring sunshine.
00:30We did start with some mist and fog. It took a few hours to clear away.
00:34But generally, it's warming up in that sunshine as well.
00:37Some mist and low cloud just at times drifting into the east coast of Northern Ireland,
00:42maybe the southwestern parts of Scotland as well.
00:45But as I say, otherwise, lots of blue sky, temperatures ticking up nicely after that chilly start,
00:50widely into the teens, well above average for the time of year,
00:53probably peaking at 16, 17 or possibly 18 Celsius.
00:589 or 10 across the far north of Scotland, but it will be warmer here on Saturday.
01:03This evening, however, if you're heading out, those temperatures will be dropping sharply.
01:07So just bear that in mind. You need a few layers on.
01:10The breeze strengthens through the night as well across southern England,
01:13south Wales and across parts of Scotland also.
01:16Now, that strengthening breeze means it won't be as foggy overnight
01:20and it won't be quite as cold either.
01:22But we could still see some patches of mist and low cloud where the winds are lightest,
01:26parts of northeast England, for example, but generally staying clear overnight.
01:30Temperatures will drop well down into single figures,
01:33but generally holding up a couple of degrees above freezing.
01:37Just some pockets of frost here and there, mostly over the hills through northeast England,
01:40again, where those winds are a little lighter.
01:42And we will start off with some mist and low cloud across the northeast of England early on,
01:47but it'll be patchy and it should tend to lift as we go through the day.
01:51And well, look at this. It is basically a sunny day across the board.
01:56We will see more of a breeze across the south that will be noticeable,
02:00but it's still going to be warm with temperatures widely well above average,
02:04widely into the mid to high teens in places.
02:08So we'll see highs of 15, 16 degrees pretty much across the board,
02:11cooler along some of these North Sea coasts with that strengthening breeze.
02:16And it will feel a little fresher than today across southern England.
02:19But look at that. Highlands of Scotland could see the first 20 Celsius of the year.
02:26Through Saturday evening, again, if you're heading out, just bear in mind,
02:29temperatures will drop quite sharply and there'll be a freshening breeze again,
02:33just making it feel a little cooler.
02:35But we'll keep the clear skies generally as we head into Sunday.
02:38We are going to see a bit of a change for some on Sunday, however.
02:41We do have high pressures still in control,
02:43but this little weather feature is just drifting up from the south.
02:46Now, that is going to bring more cloud to East Anglia and the southeast.
02:50And generally, the air isn't as warm on Sunday, so temperatures won't be as high.
02:55Overall, a cooler day. But with the isobars spreading out,
02:58it won't be as windy for Wales, Northern Ireland and the western parts of Scotland in particular.
03:03So the wind's a little lighter, still dry and bright for the vast majority
03:06with some good spells of sunshine in the west,
03:08but certainly cloudier with that weather front coming up
03:11across eastern parts of England and the likelihood of a few showers
03:15for parts of East Anglia and maybe the southeast as well.
03:18So a slightly different feel on Sunday, but still plenty of fine weather
03:21to be had throughout this weekend.
