00:00Hello, and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the week ahead. There will be some spring
00:05sunshine on the first day of March, but it's unlikely to last. Here's what's happening.
00:10High pressure there on Tuesday, replacing the rain that's gone through on Monday. But
00:17that high, well, it slowly drifts to the east during Wednesday and into Thursday, Friday.
00:22It sits there to the east. That means that the influence from areas of low pressure to
00:27the north, to the west, will be somewhat limited, but they will extend some influence
00:33to the UK. So not a stormy week ahead, but an increasingly dull and, in places, damp
00:40week to come. Let's run through that again, but with the weather fronts on, and I'll show
00:46you two weather fronts that are of interest this week. Now, this one went through on Monday.
00:52High pressure then replaces it on Tuesday, but, well, that weather front never far away.
00:57It pushes back north again on Wednesday to bring cloud and rain or drizzle to many. Then
01:02the next weather front moves in from the west as it bumps into high pressure to the east.
01:06Again, it weakens and it also slows down. So it takes a good two, two and a half days
01:11to cross the UK. Eventually, it clears through with high pressure building back again for
01:18the weekend. So a dreary week to come in many places, but sunshine returning by Saturday.
01:24There will be some sunshine there on the first day of March. Across much of the UK, a frosty
01:28start in places. A few more showers to come for the far north and west of Scotland. They
01:33tend to ease into the afternoon, but in the south, particularly around the M4 southwards,
01:39it looks like it will become increasingly cloudy and damp through the day. It's a frost-free
01:43start here, but increasingly that low cloud emerging and it's not going to feel very pleasant
01:49as the drizzle sets in by the afternoon. 9 to 11 Celsius in the south, 8 or 9 further
01:55north, so colder compared to Monday, but brighter skies, lighter winds, much more pleasant day
02:00to come. Then that high pressure in the north that's brought the sunshine loses some of
02:07its influence on Wednesday as this weather front moves north, but it weakens, it slows
02:12down so it takes all day to reach parts of Scotland. However, parts of England and Wales
02:18as well as Northern Ireland start the day with low cloud, gloomy conditions, outbreaks
02:23of mainly light rain and drizzle on and off through the day, turning a little drier I
02:28think in the south and the east, but in the north, well, Scotland starts off sunny and
02:33frosty, turns increasingly windy and cloudy and damp as that rain pushes north. The far
02:39north of Scotland stays clear at least until the end of the day. 8 or 9 Celsius again for
02:46almost, 11 to the south and not feeling as pleasant as the breeze picks up with winds
02:51nearing gale force for exposed western coasts of Scotland. Then that front disappears, the
02:58next one moves in from the west, but as I mentioned it slows down, it weakens as it
03:02runs into high pressure to the east. So another cloudy and damp start for many on Thursday.
03:09The rain really stalls across parts of eastern Scotland into northern and western England,
03:13Wales, moderate to heavy bursts at times. Because it stalls here though, well, the far
03:19east of England, East Anglia and the south east stay largely dry with some sunny spells,
03:23mild here, 13 Celsius. Scotland and Northern Ireland turn increasingly brighter with some
03:28showers following and colder here, 8 or 9 degrees. The weather front finally starts
03:35to push eastwards during Friday, again largely cloudy and damp for much of the day in the
03:40east, but brighter skies are starting to arrive from the west, temperatures near average,
03:46perhaps a touch above in the south east. Now those brighter skies in the west make much
03:52more progress by Friday night and into the weekend. This weather front gets lost under
03:56high pressure, but it does stick close to the south east, so perhaps staying a little
04:00more damp in the far south east corner as we start off Saturday with a bit more cloud
04:05for southern counties. But that high pressure will bring, for most, a fine weekend. Plenty
04:11of sunny skies, especially in the north on Saturday, temperatures around average, light
04:16winds, it looks fine. And another fine day to come on Sunday after a fairly widespread
04:22frost at first. So some cloud and rain about this week, some drizzly and gloomy stuff at
04:28times, but sunnier conditions return at the weekend. Follow us on social media for all
04:33the latest.
