00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest broadcast from the Met Office. Well, we've had sunshine
00:04and showers and fairly chilly conditions over the last few days across the UK. We will see
00:09subtle changes into this weekend. High pressure begins to move in, but notice still quite
00:14chilly. However, as we go into next week, warmer air starts to move in from the south,
00:20courtesy of low pressure though moving in slowly from the west. So it will turn warmer,
00:24but also the risk of some heavier rain in the west in particular as well.
00:29But back to Friday evening, the risk of showers across parts of the Midlands, Wales pushing
00:33south into southern England. Some of these heavy, the odd rumble of thunder and some
00:38hail in there too. Elsewhere, particularly as we get into the early hours, we'll see
00:42clearing skies develop. Few showers still possible across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
00:47These falling as sleet and snow above around 150 to 200 metres, perhaps 1 to 2 centimetres
00:53of snow across the high ground of Scotland. So some icy stretches possible here. And with
00:58those clear skies, we will see temperatures tumbling down to freezing in towns and cities
01:03below in the countryside. Minus 2 to minus 4 Celsius is possible. Patchy frost across
01:09the far south where showers take longest to clear. But a cold start to Saturday morning,
01:14but plenty of blue skies across the whole of the country. Showers from the word go though
01:19across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, again on the wintry side. Some of these filtering
01:24through the Irish Sea into Wales, the Cheshire Gap filtering towards the Midlands as we go
01:28through the day. Elsewhere, after a blue sky start, we will see the cloud bubble up
01:34into the afternoon. A few light showers are possible, but with that high pressure building
01:38in, best of the driest weather will be across southwest Wales, southwest England. Some prolonged
01:42spells of sunshine here and winds generally lighter than they have been over the compared
01:47to the last few days. But on the face of it, around average for the time of year, 10, 11,
01:5212, possibly 13 Celsius as a maximum temperature. Still a bit breezy across northeast Scotland,
01:57Orkney and Shetland here, so temperatures in that northerly breeze just feeling a little
02:01bit colder than the numbers suggest. Through Saturday evening and then overnight, we'll
02:06see any cloud and showers fading away for the vast majority of the UK. This will allow
02:11temperatures to tumble quite quickly, a widespread frost forming. A few showers still pushing
02:16in across parts of Scotland, most frequent across the north towards Orkney and Shetland
02:21as well, again on the wintry side at times. And overall, temperatures in towns and cities
02:27falling close to freezing, perhaps more widely close to freezing for many. And in the countryside,
02:32minus two, minus four is possible almost anywhere across the whole of the UK. So another frosty
02:38start on Sunday morning, but plenty of sunshine to greet us once more. That frost quickly
02:44melting away and then we're looking at a fine day for many light winds for all. Still some
02:48showers across the far northeast of the UK, but later on in the day, we'll see some thicker
02:53cloud moving into the west of the sunshine, turning hazy here, perhaps a few spells of
02:58rain pushing into Northern Ireland by the end of the day here. But overall, a fine day
03:02to come and winds starting to change direction. Southerly winds being introduced into the
03:07far west here, temperatures rising 12, 13, 14 Celsius is possible, but still chilly across
03:13the northeast here, particularly Orkney, Shetland. They're struggling at four or five Celsius.
03:19Now the outlook into next week is for it to turn warmer from the south. We will see some
03:23gusty winds at times developing and some heavy rain too. And for more information on this,
03:28you can follow us on our social media channels. I'll see you again soon.
