00:00And now, all of a sudden, this is all happening.
00:02What's his name?
00:02I just, Christian, Christian Tobetcha Obumsele.
00:05Christian?
00:05Please, I'm scared of him.
00:07On the 3rd of April, 2022, Miami police
00:10received a terrifying phone call.
00:12I'm going to die, I can't feel my arms.
00:14I can't, I can't feel my arms.
00:15My boyfriend is dying of a stabbing.
00:17Ma'am, what is the address?
00:188134 North 3, North 27th Avenue.
00:21Baby, I'm so sorry, baby.
00:2327-year-old Christian Toby Obumsele
00:26was bleeding out in his girlfriend's lap
00:28with a brutal stab wound to the chest.
00:31When police arrived, pools of blood
00:33were found all over the apartment,
00:35and Toby was barely clinging to life.
00:38OnlyFans model Kourtney Klenny had met Toby back in 2020.
00:42The two seemed to be deeply in love,
00:43but behind closed doors, things were completely different.
00:48The couple were known to have violent fights,
00:50and the police were even called multiple times
00:52to their apartment.
00:53But their biggest argument would take place in April of 2022
00:57and result in Toby bleeding out and begging for his life.
01:01Kourtney told police she had nothing to do with it,
01:04but police thought differently.
01:06So she was brought in for questioning,
01:08and a five-hour-long interrogation began.
01:11My apologies for being absolutely covered in blood.
01:15Listen, you don't have to apologize, okay?
01:17I completely understand.
01:19All right?
01:20Things happen, and you can't control it.
01:24Okay?
01:25How long have you guys been together?
01:28About two years.
01:29A year and a half to two years, yeah.
01:31Is he okay?
01:32He's still at the hospital.
01:34They're still, you know, monitoring him
01:37and talking to him, so we're waiting.
01:39Oh, my God, so he didn't even have to have surgery?
01:41Well, I don't know.
01:43They're still doing X-rays and stuff like that,
01:49so I don't know yet.
01:51I'm waiting to hear a response.
01:52That's all I have to know.
01:53Thank God.
01:54The detectives tell Kourtney
01:56that Toby is in the hospital, but alive.
01:59Detectives are usually unaware
02:00of how a suspect will react to certain information,
02:03so it's often safest to open
02:05by easing any worries they may have
02:07and talking in a non-accusatory manner.
02:10This makes the suspect feel more relaxed
02:12and more likely to open up.
02:26And I think that I overreacted.
02:29Or not overreacted necessarily, but reacted,
02:32and I just didn't know exactly what might happen.
02:36Do you guys work here in Miami,
02:38or do you guys have your own business?
02:41I do social media, so I'm an influencer, I guess is what.
02:45Oh, yeah?
02:46Oh, yes, I'm an influencer.
02:47Where do you focus on, like, Instagram or social media?
02:53Instagram.
02:56And what is it that he does?
02:59Stocks and crypto.
03:00Stocks and crypto.
03:01He just has stocks and crypto.
03:03We were gonna move into a house,
03:07so have an apartment,
03:08and then we were like, maybe just move here, right here.
03:11And then once we got here, we were like,
03:13mm, no, this is dope.
03:16So we have the dog pick out.
03:20It's a golden retriever.
03:21We're gonna name him Mellow.
03:24We were gonna get a house.
03:26We're gonna have a backyard.
03:29Because I have two dogs, and then we're gonna have three.
03:31So we were planning on staying here for a while.
03:34Sorry.
03:38The detectives can tell Courtney is in a vulnerable state,
03:41but at the end of the day, they're there to solve a crime.
03:44Courtney's being investigated for stabbing Toby,
03:47and the only defense she's given so far
03:49is that there was an argument,
03:51and things got out of hand.
03:52If Courtney did, in fact, do what she's being accused of,
03:55being forced to think about her past and future with Toby
03:59would really be messing with her emotions,
04:01causing her to become more vulnerable,
04:03and hopefully lead to an easy confession.
04:06Let's start from the start.
04:09You guys were supposed to take out your dogs to the park,
04:12right?
04:13And then what happened after that?
04:17Like I said, a little bit before.
04:21I was doing laundry,
04:24and tried to call my mom.
04:26She didn't answer the first time.
04:28And then he left, I guess.
04:29He went to go bike over there.
04:31That's just what he said.
04:32I don't know if he walked or biked,
04:33but he told me he was gonna bike first thing.
04:35He went to bike school?
04:36Yeah.
04:37And then he came back with a Subway sandwich,
04:41and I said something about like,
04:43oh, are you gonna reshare your location with me,
04:45like to insure it?
04:47And he said, yeah.
04:50Yeah, I insured it.
04:51And I was like, oh, when did you do that?
04:52And he was, the other day,
04:53like when you were done with me.
04:55And I was like, okay, well, fair enough.
04:58Like, reshare it.
05:00And then he told me,
05:01I mean, it kind of like turned into like a little like,
05:04argument or something.
05:06And then he told me to reshare mine,
05:08and I was like, okay, yeah, I will.
05:10And then I didn't do it immediately.
05:13He asked me about it again.
05:16And I don't know what I was thinking,
05:18but I just said something about,
05:20well, what if I'm somewhere you don't want me to be?
05:23Which I wouldn't have been.
05:25I love him.
05:29But maybe you don't want to know where I am.
05:31I guess maybe it was just like hurt him
05:33because he was pressing me.
05:36And he ended up pinning me against the wall.
05:39I mean, I said like choking me on the floor.
05:42It's just like, they were licking my neck,
05:43and I was like, I mean, I'm not saying like choking me,
05:46like, you know, whatever.
05:47But I mean, he had my like neck,
05:49like, and this happened twice before,
05:52where I couldn't breathe, and I was on the floor.
05:55I could not breathe.
05:57And I don't think that he was trying to kill me,
06:00but I was scared.
06:02And all three times I have been scared.
06:04I'm on the floor, and he had me pinned
06:07to my mom on the phone.
06:09So this happened like over by the door,
06:11and somehow it was like over in the living room.
06:14He was standing by the couch,
06:17facing toward the kitchen, and I was in the kitchen.
06:20And then you just like, I could see like all the lights
06:22in his eyes, and he was like, like coming at me.
06:25And so I grabbed, I grabbed one of these knives,
06:28like I'm coming for Christmas, I grabbed one of them.
06:31And I was like, I swear, I swear to God, I swear to God.
06:36It was just like, I mean, I'd be like,
06:40don't come anywhere closer to me.
06:42Because I mean, earlier,
06:44this happened two other times I couldn't breathe.
06:46I'm sorry, I couldn't breathe.
06:48And it's very scary.
06:49And I just think like, just like this kind of thing
06:51where I was saying like, do you know if he's okay?
06:54If he's choking me, and he's angry enough,
06:59he might like, I mean, this is different, I think.
07:02But if he's like choking me, or like pinning me
07:04or something, and I can't breathe, he might go too long.
07:08So I grabbed my, sorry, I grabbed my knife,
07:11and I said, don't come anywhere closer to me.
07:13I had absolutely no intention of using it.
07:15I'm on the phone with my mom, and he's coming at me
07:18like he's gonna grab either the phone
07:19or like the knife or something.
07:20And so I was just like, I was like,
07:23don't come any closer, he's coming at me, and I threw it.
07:27And I meant for it to go.
07:28How far away was he?
07:30Well, I was by my fridge, and he was like by the edge
07:33of one of the chairs of the sofa.
07:37Like 10 feet?
07:38I'm trying to think in my head.
07:40To recap, Courtney says that an argument started
07:43when the pair had both stopped sharing
07:45their phone locations that resulted in him pinning her
07:47against the floor, and her retaliating
07:50by throwing a kitchen knife across the room,
07:52piercing him in the chest.
07:53Courtney also clearly states that her attack
07:56was in self-defense, and specifically involved
07:59her throwing a knife 10 feet across the apartment
08:01that landed perfectly in his chest,
08:04causing him to bleed out and fear for his life.
08:07So then you were by the fridge, and he was by the couch?
08:10Yes, I was between, in front of the fridge,
08:13and he was by the couch, behind my island.
08:16Now what kind of movements did he make at the moment?
08:20He was running at me.
08:22Running?
08:23Okay.
08:23Well, charging, aggressively walking, something.
08:28What was he doing?
08:29Like, was he doing something with his hands, or?
08:33Doing it at his hands up.
08:34I really couldn't tell you exactly.
08:37Was he yelling at you at the time?
08:39Yes.
08:40Was that at the moment that he was charging you,
08:41or earlier in one of the arguments?
08:44It was before he choked me, when I, yes.
08:48It was before he choked me, or whatever.
08:53But I swear to God, I was scared.
08:55I mean, after, like, what had just, I was scared,
08:58and I was yelling from my mom, and it was still happening.
09:01I was scared.
09:02So you told me that he had you against a wall at one point,
09:06right, with the fans over your neck?
09:08Mm-hmm.
09:09And how did you end up from the wall to the ground?
09:13Dummy go, let me go, and then I started swinging on him,
09:17because I had been against the wall.
09:20I started trying to hit him,
09:22and then he put me on the ground.
09:25He dropped you to the ground?
09:26When I'm trying to remember, like, a whole situation
09:29of where I was very upset about something,
09:32which I've learned this in therapy, or whatever,
09:34it's like, write down, like, all the details
09:37so you don't forget.
09:40Just, like, write it all out clearly
09:43so it makes sense to you and makes sense to somebody else.
09:46But I haven't had a chance to have a pen and paper
09:48or my phone to, like, write down exactly what happened,
09:51and I haven't even, like, fully thought about it.
09:53So, honestly, my answer is I couldn't.
09:55I don't remember.
09:56That's good. Okay.
09:58You guys have a history of being together?
10:01Yeah. You said you've been together how long?
10:02I'm sorry. Almost two years.
10:04Almost two years. And after two years.
10:05So how many incidents do you think you've had?
10:08I don't know, but we shouldn't be together.
10:11Have you made a report before?
10:14No.
10:15You've never made a report?
10:17Oh, I did in Dallas, actually, about a year ago,
10:22and he was detained.
10:24And what happened there?
10:27He had pushed me in the lobby,
10:31but it wasn't, like, a big deal, and they made it a huge deal.
10:35The couple had also been involved in another incident
10:37in Las Vegas less than a year earlier.
10:40Police were called to their apartment
10:41after a loud argument was heard,
10:43as well as glasses smashing on the floor and walls.
10:47The apartment was trashed when police arrived,
10:49and Courtney's story was all over the place.
10:52Why did you call for help?
10:53Because we were getting really loud.
10:55We were getting loud, and I was like,
10:57oh, my God, we're going to, like,
10:58do damage to the room or something.
10:59Not damage to each other.
11:00Like, I really want to, like...
11:02But why would you... I like that.
11:03Why would you think that you were going to do damage to the room?
11:06I, like, throwing something or, like...
11:09Did you throw something?
11:11Did I? Yeah.
11:12No. Did anybody throw anything?
11:14No. So why would you think
11:16that there is damage to the room to be made?
11:17Because I've done that before in our house, and I...
11:20What have you done?
11:21Thrown a glass and a plate.
11:25Did you throw a glass or a plate at him today?
11:27No. Okay.
11:28No, that's not before.
11:30Okay, so when I go to the room
11:32and I see a broken glass on the floor,
11:34where did the glass come from?
11:35I don't know.
11:36I literally couldn't even remember how the fight started.
11:40Okay, well... Was there?
11:42Yeah. Maybe I did.
11:44Well, I'm guessing that I threw a glass,
11:46but that sounds like me, so...
11:48Courtney was brought to jail and held for 12 hours overnight,
11:51but Toby refused to press charges
11:53and advocated heavily for release.
11:55This may seem like nothing,
11:57but police did conclude that Courtney had attacked him
11:59that night by throwing a glass at his head.
12:02If nothing else, it proves that Courtney was capable
12:05of attacking Toby unprovoked
12:06and opens up an entirely new avenue for this investigation.
12:10However, it also turns out that police had been in contact
12:13with the couple more recently.
12:15In fact, they'd actually been called by security
12:17to their apartment the day before the attack.
12:21But the cops have been up there one other time yesterday.
12:26Mm-hmm.
12:27For absolutely nothing.
12:31Absolutely nothing.
12:32They harassed...
12:33Not the police, but security guards from the office,
12:38like young security guards.
12:40Came up for no reason.
12:42Um...
12:44Bothered him, bothered me.
12:46The cops were called, however,
12:48and captured an entire exchange on body cams,
12:51providing a stark contrast to the story that Courtney gave here.
12:54You didn't call?
12:56I didn't. Nobody asked me.
12:57You called? OK, hold on.
13:00Let him talk. Let him talk.
13:02OK, the front desk personnel,
13:05she informed us that Miss Courtney,
13:08her boyfriend, was trying to get into the elevator.
13:12And she let her hand out like this.
13:14And she was like, oh, no, don't come inside the elevator.
13:17So we asked her, I said, do you want him to leave the property?
13:21She said no. She don't want him...
13:23I did not. I said yes.
13:25Courtney, what's going on? What do you need?
13:29What?
13:31Yes, what do you need?
13:33Oh, my God. My boyfriend.
13:35All right, so what do you... What do you want?
13:37I want a restraining order against Christian Uribe.
13:40We don't issue those. No, I'm serious.
13:42To the courts. Can I do that?
13:44OK, but how can I make myself first?
13:47Courtney is obviously extremely panicked in this footage
13:50and seems less concerned about any possible...
13:53that she may have been sustaining
13:55and more worried about getting a restraining order
13:57before Toby can.
13:59It's also important to note that the building security
14:02noticed her pushing Toby out of the elevator
14:04and screaming at him
14:06and mentioned absolutely no aggression coming from him.
14:09As the evidence mounts up,
14:11it's starting to get increasingly more likely
14:14that Courtney's whole self-defense story
14:17might be straying slightly away from the truth.
14:20But as is almost always the case in situations like these,
14:24everything is still hearsay
14:26and officially debunking her claims
14:28is going to be a challenge for the detectives.
14:30But after leaving her alone for almost an hour
14:32and letting her change clothes,
14:34they return to the interrogation room
14:36with some more news for her.
14:38So you're living...
14:40in a nightmare right now.
14:42Yes. You know?
14:44I will feel so much better once they just say...
14:47he's stable.
14:49I've been asking, I've been asking.
14:51That's what we're waiting for.
14:53I mean, I feel like...
14:56I mean, if he's not, that's a lot worse for me.
14:59So they've asked for an update,
15:01and I asked them for an update as well,
15:03so they're checking if she was going.
15:05I don't know what I'm going to do.
15:07I don't know what I will do with myself
15:09if he's not okay.
15:11I mean, clearly we can't be together.
15:14No matter what happens,
15:16no matter where this falls, right,
15:19it's out of our control.
15:23Um, so...
15:26we have to inform you that Christian did not make it.
15:30Okay?
15:32Um, unfortunately the doctors did what they could and...
15:35Christian is dead?
15:37Yes.
15:39Oh, my God.
15:44This is not real, right? Okay.
15:47Those are...
15:50Christian died?
15:52Yes.
15:54Can I please have a hug?
15:56Am I allowed to do that in here?
15:58Sure.
16:00Relax.
16:02No, no, no.
16:04Calm down.
16:06Okay.
16:11I need to hug my mom.
16:15I cannot be left alone in, like, a room by myself.
16:18You won't be.
16:20No, that's not true.
16:23That's not, that's not real, right?
16:25It is real.
16:26Christian is dead.
16:28Yes.
16:29You're not going to lie.
16:31The last thing he ate was...
16:33subway.
16:34What am I saying to that other room?
16:36I said, God forbid, God forbid,
16:38when, like, from the far away,
16:41if, if, if, what if, what if I,
16:43what if it had actually hit a little bit lower and he died?
16:46So we can't, we can't change what's occurred
16:49and forget him before.
16:51So just...
16:53step by step.
16:55So you'll get through this, alright?
17:16and she was let off without any charges.
17:19But remember,
17:21the detectives weren't aware of
17:23any of the evidence mentioned so far.
17:25All they know is what Courtney told them.
17:29So as time went on,
17:30evidence started to mount up,
17:32and the Abimseli's case was starting to become stronger and stronger.
17:36The body cam videos started to become publicly available,
17:39and the true nature of her previous arrests came to light.
17:42There were also unflattering videos
17:44such as this one showing her drunk in public
17:46just days after her release.
18:08Sure, people make mistakes and drink too much.
18:12But when you're seen acting like this in public
18:14just days after bawling your eyes out in an interrogation room,
18:18you don't exactly get painted in the best light.
18:21Just days later,
18:23footage secretly recorded by Toby
18:25was found on his phone displaying Courtney
18:27violently screaming at him,
18:29using aggressive language,
18:30hitting him across the face,
18:32and using racial slurs.
18:42My bad, I forgot to tell you that.
18:44That doesn't make you an acting comedian.
18:49Yes, yes, thank you.
18:51Thank you.
18:52I want you to get away from me!
18:54So due to this, and many other accounts
18:56stating that Courtney was well and truly the Abimseli one,
19:00she was officially taken to court by Toby's family.
19:03This is where the final nail in the coffin
19:05was delivered by a medical examiner
19:07who'd observed Toby's body and come to a conclusion.
19:10Now based on the information you received
19:12that the defendant was alleged to have thrown this knife,
19:15do your observations support that?
19:17If the person who supposedly did this
19:21is an expert knife thrower,
19:23and the knife is the type of knife that you can throw,
19:26I guess that could have happened.
19:28Did you receive any information
19:29that the defendant was a knife thrower?
19:31No.
19:32So based on that fact,
19:34that you did not receive that information,
19:36would it support that?
19:37No.
19:38And what would you expect to see a knife do
19:41if someone just flung it at somebody?
19:43It would just hit the body and bounce off.
19:46Now as a result of this case,
19:48did you come to a cause,
19:50or did you make a determination
19:51as to the cause and manner of death?
19:53Yes.
