00:00Cops have to deal with all sorts of violent and horrifying criminals in their job,
00:04but what happens when it's their own children that they have to arrest?
00:12On the 28th of December 2022, a witness had observed a white vehicle strike a traffic light
00:18and then quickly drive off. A part of the vehicle's bumper had fallen off in the road after the hit.
00:23Around 15 minutes after the call, police located the suspect's vehicle at a gas station across the
00:28road, but the driver was the last person they expected. The very thing 21-year-old Teresa says
00:49is that her dad is an officer with the local PD, possibly hoping that he'd come and get her out of
00:54the situation, but the cops at the scene are sure that things are way past that.
00:59He left Applebee's. Yeah, I left Applebee's. You cut through the plaza. You came up by
01:04Lowe's and Chick-fil-A. Yeah. Did you hit the traffic pole? That's right there.
01:09This part was hanging off already. I hit a deer in Pennsylvania because I go to school.
01:16Do you smoke marijuana recreationally? No, I do not smoke marijuana universally.
01:21Universally smoking marijuana isn't the only part of her story that doesn't make any sense.
01:26She's saying that her bumper was already hanging off from an accident in Pennsylvania around 25
01:32miles away, and it just happened to fall off right as another car, identical to hers,
01:37struck a traffic light. But Teresa has a trick up her sleeve that might just get her out of this.
01:43At least, that's what she hopes. I hit a deer. I hit a deer before this. This piece fell off at
01:52the traffic light that you hit, that you knocked over. 67, do you have another unit out with you?
01:57Can you call my dad? He's the sheriff's officer. All right, hang out.
02:00Over the course of just a few minutes, Teresa brings up her dad over five times,
02:05obviously praying that he'll be able to find a way for her to get out of this.
02:08But before he can come to rescue her, the cops are starting to zero in on what
02:13really happened and begin to get at least some of the truth from Teresa.
02:16Did you drive away because you're scared because you had maybe had one drink and you think you're
02:20drunk and you might get arrested, but you don't seem like you're drunk? So you want to just tell
02:24the truth? Yes, I'm telling you the truth. So after Applebee's, did you hit a traffic pole?
02:28You can't miss it. It lights up. It's red, green, and yellow. I hit a curb.
02:32You hit a traffic signal. No, I hit a curb.
02:35Yeah, you went up the curb. You hit the traffic signal. The traffic signal fell down and you left.
02:39I was texting. Can you call my dad? He would tell you.
02:43Well, here's the thing. Your dad's the sheriff's officer wasn't driving your vehicle today.
02:47In just this one short conversation, Teresa admits that she did hit something, that she's
02:53more intoxicated than they realized, and that she was texting while driving. Three driving faults
02:59that can each come with their own punishment. So now that the truth has come out, the detectives
03:04decide to speak with her father, John, but it turns out he's not there to help her.
03:10Sheriff's officer, what's going on? Hey John, how are you?
03:13So your daughter is hitting a traffic pole.
03:22Where's the damage on the car? Okay, the damage on that car,
03:26on the car there, I think it was like the front right bumper.
03:31John explains that Teresa did hit a deer earlier and that the damage was on the front right bumper,
03:36but it was nowhere near as serious as the damage the car was currently sustaining.
03:40Can I come out? Are you guys out there? Uh, that's up to you. I'll see if she wants you
03:43to come out. If she wants, you know, you to drive her home.
03:47Yeah, I appreciate it. Let me, let me come out there and I'll see you guys.
03:52Okay. All right. Sounds good.
03:53It looks like Teresa isn't going to be getting the salvation she was hoping for
03:57from her dad. And just five minutes later, he arrives at the scene to talk with the cops.
04:04So what she's saying, like, and where the damage was there,
04:07it doesn't really make too much sense. So I tried to get some more information out of her,
04:12and then that piece of bumper there. So for the other one, was it just like
04:16the bumper wasn't hanging like that? Yeah, no. So what it was is, um, basically
04:21this was intact. Okay. Um, this piece was missing, but the scratches here,
04:27that's all from a deer that she lost. So right now, this is going to be my call.
04:36Okay. Okay. Who's your super boss?
04:43I'm just asking the cops who were first at the scene almost seem as though they're expecting
04:46John to try and make excuses for his daughter and get extra nervous when he asks who their
04:51supervisor is. Obviously there are countless examples of corruption where officers,
04:56especially those in the higher ranks are able to use their power to prevent their family from
05:00getting into trouble. However, the officers quickly realize all he's trying to do is gather
05:04all the information on the incident so he can make a fair assessment himself. This quickly
05:09becomes evident as he checks his text messages from her to try and create a timeline of events.
05:14I just want to show you this so you can see it. You home 10 39. Who do you think that initial
05:20call came from? Because she probably hit it and was like, dad, what the fuck do I do?
05:25Somewhere between 10 45 and 11. Well, that's about right.
05:30Talking to her, she knows that I'm a cop. She knows, she knows not to do that. Well,
05:37maybe she didn't even, I did think she, I'm not saying she didn't lie. I want to be very clear,
05:42but she might not even look at the freaking car to see if there's any difference. However,
05:45despite John's willingness to help the officers out, the Sergeant at the scene asks him not to
05:50get involved. So to guarantee the integrity of the investigation so far, everything other than
05:56Teresa's conduct has been perfect and is a great example of proper policing. So it's back to
06:02focusing on what Teresa had mentioned earlier. She says she'd only had one drink at Applebee's,
06:06but it's starting to seem as though she may be a little more drunk than they realized.
06:11Suspicions that were only confirmed after some field sobriety tests.
06:16Everything that happened tonight, I don't think that you were
06:19okay to take me out here.
06:27Oh, your dad's right over here.
06:35Did you stop with this shit to get in the car? You're arrested for DUI.
06:40Have a seat.
06:44After being forced into the police vehicle by her own dad, Teresa was driven to the police
06:49station where her blood alcohol level was tested. It came back as 0.17%, over twice the legal limit.
06:56As of this upload, Teresa is still awaiting her penalty, but has been issued a court summons for
07:02driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to report a car accident. Teresa's
07:07dad followed protocol perfectly, but Kenneth Adams' dad did the exact opposite when he tried
07:12to abuse his power as a commissioner to try and save his son from prison.
07:16Tell me who I call to find out why he's in jail. You want me to sue the son of a county sheriff?
07:22In November 2022, Kenneth Adams was pulled over for running a stop sign.
07:27But as it turns out, Kenneth was in much more trouble than he realized.
07:31How's it going?
07:32I'm good. What did I do wrong?
07:33Good. So the reason I stopped you is you didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign?
07:36I did.
07:36And then you didn't have your turn signal on?
07:38I sure did. I know for a fact I had my turn signal on. That's why I was surprised you were
07:42pulling me over. But whatever.
07:43The officer then took his license and ran it through the system,
07:46where he would discover Kenneth had a warrant out for burglary and theft of a vehicle.
07:51All of a sudden, Kenneth becomes defensive and refuses to exit the vehicle.
07:56All right, can I get you to step out of the vehicle with me?
07:58What are you doing? No, what's going on? Seriously, what's going on?
08:01You have a warrant.
08:02How the f*** do I have a warrant?
08:03I don't know how you have a warrant, but it's on our system right now.
08:06You have an active warrant out of 7th District Court here in San Juan.
08:09I've gone to... No, that's incorrect.
08:11Okay, well, it's on our system right now.
08:13I'm not going to argue with you about it. You're going to go to jail tonight on that warrant, okay?
08:16No, I'm not.
08:17Dude, this is absurd.
08:18Mr. Adams, you do have an active warrant for your arrest.
08:22And who issued the warrant, though?
08:24The courts have issued it.
08:25For what, though? Because I've gone to court for everything.
08:28There should not be an active warrant for me anywhere, dude.
08:30Kenneth claims that he's already been to court for his previous crimes,
08:33but the warrant still calls for his arrest.
08:35For the majority of smaller cases, the suspect is tasked with turning in the documents that
08:40prove that they've been to court and completing any classes they were made to attend by the judge.
08:45Without those documents, the court cannot confirm they attended anything.
08:49So when Kenneth forgot to turn his in, the warrant remained open,
08:52and the police had no way to tell that he had, in fact, been to court.
08:56Issued October 13th.
08:58For what?
08:58It has some felony charges, burglary charges.
09:01Dude, I've been to court for that.
09:03No, I've been to court for that.
09:04You want to know the charges?
09:05Yeah, I do.
09:06So it has two burglary charges listed, a theft charge for mischief.
09:10That's on my old case.
09:11Three charges of burglary of a vehicle and a criminal trespass.
09:14Yeah, why is that floating up now?
09:16Kenneth was taken away to the station, but this is when his father, Bruce Adams, turned up,
09:22who turned out to be the county commissioner for the local area.
09:25How convenient for Kenneth.
09:26Immediately after arriving at the scene, Bruce demanded to know what was going on
09:31and quickly started to show signs of corruption.
09:34Where's Kenneth?
09:35He's in jail.
09:36They took him.
09:37You already took him to jail?
09:38They took him to jail and I stayed here with the car.
09:40Why?
09:40For a warrant.
09:41Who do I call to find out?
09:43To find out the warrant?
09:44You're a police officer.
09:45Tell me who I call to find out why he's in jail.
09:48I got to be careful with this stuff, Bruce.
09:50You understand that.
09:51Okay, that's the warrant.
09:54Okay, so it says warrant status active, offense burglary, burglary theft, criminal mischief,
09:59burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a vehicle.
10:01He's already been to court over that.
10:03You saw the warrant right there.
10:05I showed you the warrant.
10:06He's been charged with that and he has a plea in abeyance on all of it.
10:10What do you want me to do?
10:11I want you to turn him loose.
10:12I can't turn him loose, Bruce.
10:14Who can?
10:15Nobody can.
10:16He's been arrested for a warrant.
10:17The courts can.
10:18And the warrant's false.
10:19Huh?
10:19The warrant's not false.
10:20You want me to sue the son of a county sheriff because he arrested my kid on a false warrant?
10:27The warrant's right there.
10:28Bruce is obviously trying to abuse his position and influence the commissioner to try and save
10:33his son from the law.
10:34But luckily, this officer stands his ground and refuses to cave in.
10:39Eventually, though, Kenneth was released from jail, the warrant was withdrawn,
10:43and no further action was taken against Bruce.
10:46But the officers that arrested this law student weren't as lucky.
10:49I didn't do anything.
10:54Marion Humphrey Jr., son of retired county judge Marion Humphrey Sr.,
10:59was pulled over after an officer allegedly witnessed him driving dangerously.
11:03Footage shows him swerving slightly after missing his exit.
11:07Marion is lit up by the officer and pulled over.
11:09He's then told the officer witnessed him nearly wreck his car
11:13and is suspected of dangerous driving.
11:15When did you win the case?
11:16Yesterday.
11:18Well, you gotta take it-
11:19Turn it back into high gear?
11:21Pick it up in high gear?
11:22I'm sorry, sir.
11:23What's this?
11:24I'm trying to figure out that you have probable cause for pulling me over.
11:28Yeah, because you're super nervous, so I'm trying to figure out why you're so nervous.
11:31Being a law student, Marion asks if the officer has probable cause for pulling him over.
11:35The officer struggles to give a good answer before claiming Marion seems super nervous.
11:40First of all, being nervous isn't a crime and isn't evidence towards a crime either.
11:46And secondly, Marion actually carries himself incredibly well in this situation.
11:50He complies with the officer's requests,
11:52asks why he's being pulled over,
11:54and why he's being held.
11:56He even calls his dad to listen in on the entire arrest,
11:58something the officer clearly didn't like, as he then asks to search Marion's U-Haul.
12:03So if I bring him dog, is it going to hurt him or anything?
12:05No, it's not going to hurt him or anything.
12:07I promise you, I just don't want to get shot.
12:10That's all, and I'm sorry about that.
12:12It just, it happens.
12:13I know it happens.
12:14Honestly, I don't want you to bring a dog because I don't think that's fair to me.
12:19As a citizen, as someone who, if the only thing I did was kind of,
12:23like, I did not always wreck my car.
12:25If you don't want to bring a dog,
12:26just let me look in here real quick and I'll get you down the road.
12:28I don't like to bring a dog.
12:29I just think that's so evasive of my rights, but you can look in here if you like to.
12:33Marion does an extremely good job of eloquently showing how terrifying it can be to be stopped by
12:38the police while maintaining a calm and respectful tone with the officer the whole time.
12:43But regardless, Marion is placed in handcuffs for over an hour
12:47while the cops search his vehicle with a dog.
12:49According to the officer,
12:50the dog smelled narcotics and alerted the officers before even entering the U-Haul.
12:55The dog alerted on narcotics in the vehicle,
12:58so I detained him and he's in the back of my car while I search the vehicle.
13:01You didn't wreck his car, pal.
13:03No, but he almost did, so that's probably kind of sad.
13:06Daddy, he's arresting me.
13:08He's arresting me.
13:09In the other hand?
13:10He's arresting me, daddy.
13:13There's nothing in that vehicle, I promise you.
13:16Okay, go ahead.
13:16I didn't do anything.
13:18Predictably, the cops find nothing in the vehicle.
13:21Marion has since opened up a lawsuit against the officers,
13:23claiming they violated his Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
13:27As of this video's upload, the case is still ongoing.
