00:00Duncan drops a clanger.
00:05It was a busy time on the narrow gauge railway.
00:10It was the day of the country fair.
00:13The little engines puffed through the forests and valleys, getting ready for the big day.
00:23Rusty was taking trucks full of flowers.
00:30Peter Sam was taking pumpkins.
00:35And Duncan had a very special job to do.
00:39He had to collect the big bell from the clock tower to be polished.
00:47On the way, Duncan puffed along an old and bumpy track.
00:52It was his favourite part of the railway.
00:56Each day, Duncan would rattle along the tracks.
01:01He enjoyed the sound his wheels made.
01:05Duncan raced backwards and forwards, rattling and clattering over the bumps.
01:16Rheneas chuffed up.
01:19Duncan, you're going to be late, he peeped.
01:23But Duncan didn't hear Rheneas.
01:26His wheels were clattering and rattling too loudly.
01:37When Duncan finally arrived at the transfer yards, he was very late and the foreman was cross.
01:46Workmen were waiting with a large wooden frame.
01:50Inside was the big bell.
01:54The bell chimed cheerfully as it was loaded onto Duncan's flatbed.
02:02What a wonderful sound, peeped Duncan.
02:06Remember, said the foreman sternly, the bell is very heavy.
02:12The track to the polishers is old and in need of some repair.
02:17You must go slowly and carefully.
02:21But Duncan wasn't listening to the foreman.
02:24He was enjoying the chiming of the bell.
02:31Duncan chuffed along the track to the polishers.
02:35As he puffed through the mountains, his wheels started to clatter and the bell started to chime.
02:46Duncan went faster, the bell chimed louder.
02:51With every bump and bend it rattled and rang, it tinkled and clanged.
02:59Duncan liked the sound of this even more than the sound of his wheels.
03:03He was having a wonderful time.
03:07Whee! he wheezed and the bell rang louder and louder.
03:14Slow down, called Rusty.
03:18But Duncan didn't hear.
03:20Hooray! Duncan hooted.
03:25Take care, chuffed Scarlowie.
03:28Whoosh! whooped Duncan.
03:32The bell will come loose, puffed Mighty Mac.
03:36But still Duncan didn't listen.
03:40He rattled on.
03:44The track was getting bumpier and the bell chimed louder.
03:49And the bell chimed louder.
03:54Sir Handel was taking on water.
03:57He saw Duncan racing towards him.
04:01Hooray! whistled Duncan.
04:04Slow down, hooted Sir Handel.
04:07The track ahead is very wobbly.
04:11Listen to my bell, Sir Handel, whooshed Duncan.
04:15Isn't it wonderful?
04:19Then there was trouble.
04:22Duncan's wheels rattled over the wobbly track.
04:26He applied his brakes, but it was too late.
04:30The flatbed bumped into the air.
04:33The bell tumbled off the flatbed and rolled down the hill.
04:39Clang, clang, boing, went the bell as it fell and fell.
04:45Oh no, cried Duncan.
04:48I've lost the bell.
04:50Now it won't be polished for the country fair, he puffed sadly.
04:55It's all my fault.
04:58Everywhere was still and quiet.
05:04Then Duncan heard a noise.
05:07That sounds like a bell, he wished quietly.
05:12And he listened very hard.

05:57The branch snapped and the bell fell onto his flatbed.

06:08He was very happy.
06:15Duncan puffed to the polishers.
06:18This time he puffed slowly and carefully, just as he had been told.
06:27Soon the bell was polished and Duncan chuffed slowly and carefully all the way back to the transfer yard.
06:39Duncan delivered the shiny bell just in time.
06:46And when the clock chimed for the opening of the country fair,
06:50Duncan thought it was the best sound he had ever heard.
