00:00Ding-a-ling!
00:05Freddy was a fine old mountain engine.
00:08He knew more about the hills,
00:13the valleys,
00:16the hidden tracks,
00:18and the highland villages,
00:21than any other engine.
00:25But there were still some things that Freddy didn't know.
00:29One morning, Freddy, Peter Sam and Mighty Mac were at the wharf.
00:35Mr. Percival was going on a family cycling holiday.
00:39James was bringing a new bicycle.
00:43You are late, James, whistled Freddy grandly.
00:47The thin controller is waiting.
00:51I came as fast as I could, James wheezed crossly.
00:56Freddy was to deliver the bicycle, so it was loaded onto his flatbed.
01:01There's no bell, James huffed.
01:04I don't think a bicycle bell is important, puffed Freddy.
01:08It's very important, snorted James.
01:11It's like a whistle, it lets everyone know you're there.
01:15That made Freddy feel very silly.
01:18One of you must find the bell for the thin controller's bicycle right away,
01:23James steamed snootily.
01:25Peter Sam and Mighty Mac didn't know where to find one,
01:29so they looked at Freddy.
01:31Freddy didn't know, but he didn't want to ask James.
01:35Of course I know where to find a bicycle bell,
01:39Freddy chuffed quickly.
01:41He didn't want James to think he was even sillier,
01:44so he puffed quickly out of the wharf.
01:49Freddy chuffed along.
01:51Ding-a-long, ding-a-ling, find a bell with the very best ring,
01:56he whistled cheerfully.
01:58But he couldn't see a bicycle bell anywhere.
02:04Freddy puffed up to a farmer with his cows.
02:07Hooray, he chuffed.
02:09A cow bell would be as good as a bicycle bell.
02:13The farmer hung the bell on the handlebars.
02:16Just then, Mighty Mac puffed up.
02:20The cow bell clanged.
02:22Listen to that, chuffed Freddy proudly.
02:25This is far better than a bicycle bell.
02:29But the cows didn't look up.
02:32The cows aren't taking any notice at all, huffed Mighty.
02:36That'll never do for a bicycle bell, chuffed Mac.
02:40Freddy felt silly, and he chuffed quickly on his way.
02:46Then Freddy puffed in to Top Station.
02:50Coffey the Clown had a ring of bells around his neck.
02:54They jingled and jangled.
02:56Hooray, Freddy chuffed.
02:58Coffey's bells would be as good as a bicycle bell.
03:02Coffey hung the bells next to the cow bell.
03:06Just then, Peter Sam puffed up.
03:09The bells chimed and tinkled.
03:12Listen to that, whistled Freddy proudly.
03:17But the children kept laughing with Coffey.
03:21The children aren't taking any notice at all, puffed Peter Sam.
03:26They'll never do for a bicycle bell.
03:28Freddy felt even sillier, and again he chuffed quickly away.
03:37Freddy had puffed all over the hills.
03:41I will have to go back to the wharf, he steamed sadly,
03:45and tell them all I can't find a bell.
03:48And he huffed slowly away.
03:54Freddy arrived at the wharf.
03:56He could see Peter Sam, Mighty Mac and James.
04:00They were waiting for him.
04:02I must find a bicycle bell somewhere before they see me, he puffed,
04:07and he chuffed quickly away from them.
04:12Freddy looked everywhere, and then he saw it.
04:18A shiny new school bell.
04:22Hooray, he whistled.
04:24A big school bell is far better than a little bicycle bell.
04:28With a bell that big, everyone will know the thin controller is there.
04:33The workmen put the bell on the bike, but it was very heavy.
04:37The bicycle toppled off the flatbed and crashed to the ground.
04:42All the bells jingled and jangled.
04:47Peter Sam, Mighty Mac and James heard the clatter and rushed over.
04:53The yard manager was very cross, and everyone looked at Freddy.
04:59The thin controller is waiting for his new bicycle, the yard manager said sternly.
05:05I'll have all the bells taken off, then you must deliver it to him.
05:10Freddy felt sillier than he had ever felt.
05:14Later, Freddy was puffing glumly out of the wharf.
05:18He met Thomas chuffing in.
05:20What's the matter, Freddy? tooted Thomas.
05:23Freddy told Thomas everything that had happened.
05:27And it's all because I felt silly and didn't ask James where to find a bicycle bell.
05:33I'm sure you'll find one soon, Thomas whistled.
05:37Suddenly, Freddy saw a bright new foghorn on Thomas's flatbed.
05:42Where are you taking that bright new foghorn? Freddy asked.
05:47It's not new, it's old, tooted Thomas, but it still works very well.
05:54It has just been cleaned and painted.
05:57Now I know just what to do, Freddy cried excitedly.
06:03And he puffed quickly out of the wharf.
06:08The thin controller looked at his new bicycle.
06:12There's no bell, he gasped.
06:15Yes, there is, sir, Freddy whistled.
06:18He asked the yard manager to take the old bell from the old bicycle.
06:23The yard manager polished it once, then he polished it again,
06:29and put it on the new bicycle.
06:32It was as good as new.
06:35The thin controller was very happy.
06:38What a good idea, Freddy, he smiled.
06:42And James had to agree.
06:45Freddy didn't feel silly anymore.
06:48He felt very proud.
06:51Ding-a-ling rang the thin controller's bell,
06:55and Freddy toot-tooted back.
