00:01Duncan's Bluff
00:05It was winter time on the island of Sodor.
00:13Duncan was busy puffing through the white mountains and the frosty forests.
00:22He was proud to be a narrow gauge engine.
00:25Duncan was delivering coal to the villagers.
00:34They were going to need extra coal from the main coaling plant.
00:42So James and Thomas brought trucks of coal to the wharf.
00:48Duncan chuffed in to talk to James.
00:53You were a long time getting here, teased Duncan.
00:58You're lucky I came at all, wheezed James crossly.
01:02I've got an important job to do later. I'm taking some children to a party.
01:08Is doing two jobs in one day too hard for you? Duncan chuffed cheekily.
01:13Bah! snorted James.
01:16I can do more jobs in one day than you can. I'm really useful.
01:21This made Duncan cross.
01:25How about a wee competition? Chuffed Duncan.
01:29I bet I can take coal to the villagers faster than you can deliver it.
01:34Alright! puffed James. You're on!
01:41I'll show you who's fastest. Chuffed Duncan.
01:45But Duncan was worried. James was big and strong.
01:50I hope I can be as fast as James. He puffed nervously.
01:57So Duncan delivered all his coal as fast as he could.
02:03Must beat James! Must beat James! He puffed.
02:11But when Duncan arrived back at the wharf, James was waiting for him.
02:17I told you mainline engines were the fastest! teased James.
02:22Duncan looked at the long line of trucks.
02:26There was plenty of coal for the villagers there.
02:30But Duncan didn't want to lose.
02:33Is this all you've brought? he tooted.
02:36The villagers need lots more coal than that.
02:39Then I'll bring more coal than you have ever seen! puffed James.
02:47James raced back to the coaling plant.
02:51And Duncan delivered the coal to the villagers.
02:55Now all the villagers had plenty of coal.
02:59Duncan puffed back to the wharf.
03:07But when Duncan arrived at the wharf, there were still lots more coal trucks waiting.
03:13So Duncan decided to play a trick.
03:17I'll hide the coal trucks before James gets back! he puffed.
03:26Soon all the trucks were hidden.
03:30Now James will think I've delivered all the coal! Duncan chuffed cheerfully.
03:36James had collected lots more trucks from the coaling plant.
03:40He was puffing harder than he had ever puffed before.
03:45And he was using lots of coal.
03:50At last James arrived at the wharf.
03:54There was Duncan.
03:57You still haven't brought enough coal! teased Duncan.
04:01I thought you were supposed to be really useful.
04:04I'll soon be back with so much coal! puffed James.
04:07It will take you all winter to deliver it!
04:11I will see! puffed Duncan.
04:16James still had to take the children to the concert.
04:20But he had been puffing so hard, he had used up all the coal in his tender.
04:27And soon he drowned to a halt.
04:30That evening the thing controller came to see Duncan.
04:36James is stuck! He has run out of coal! he announced.
04:41Now he won't be able to take the children to the concert!
04:45Duncan felt terrible.
04:48He thought about all the coal trucks he had hidden.
04:52He thought about James.
04:54Then he thought about the children.
04:56I have to tell you about the hidden coal! he wished to the thing controller.
05:01The thing controller listened hard.
05:04You have caused delay and confusion! he said slowly.
05:09But you have told the truth and a useful engine always tells the truth.
05:15I'll only be really useful if I can help James! whistled Duncan.

05:28So Duncan collected one of the coal trucks he had hidden.
05:38Snow started to fall.
05:42Duncan rattled along the icy tracks.
05:45Until at last Duncan found James.
05:50What are you doing here? snorted James.
05:54I played a trick on you! chuffed Duncan.
05:58I didn't take all the coal to the villagers. I hid it from you.
06:02You are the fastest and a really useful engine! Duncan added.
06:08But James told Duncan that he was a really useful engine.
06:12You brought the coal to me so quickly! I will still be able to take the children to the concert! he puffed.
06:19Thank you Duncan!
06:22The coal was quickly loaded into James's tender.
06:27Soon his fire was roaring and his boiler was as warm as toast.
06:34He steamed off to collect the children.
06:37Duncan felt happy.
06:40James is a really useful engine! puffed Duncan.
06:44But then, so am I!
06:47And he chuffed happily away to deliver more coal to the snowy villagers.
