00:32 Hello and welcome to Latest TV News. I'm Sam Morton and I'm going to be speaking to reporter and Brighton fan Henry Bryant about Albion's superb 4-1 win against bitter rivals Crystal Palace before we look ahead to the next Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur.
00:46 First, here are the top stories from across the county.
00:49 A police officer was left injured and multiple arrests were made after incidents involving fans attending the Brighton vs Crystal Palace match.
00:57 The arch rivals faced off at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon and the police were out in force for the occasion.
01:02 Video footage taken outside Brighton Railway Station and neighbouring roads showed a large number of police officers dealing with rowdy fans before kick-off.
01:10 Police on horseback also helped to escort fans to the station.
01:14 In a statement on Saturday evening, Sussex Police confirmed an officer was injured and multiple arrests were made for various offences.
01:22 A spokesperson said, "We would like to thank the vast majority of fans who behaved responsibly before, during and after the game."
01:29 However, there was a small minority of fans who displayed disruptive and disorderly behaviour.
01:34 On the day, officers made seven arrests for offences which included assault, assault on an emergency worker, a fray and offences contrary to the Public Order Act, including two which were aggravated by homophobia.
01:47 One officer sustained an injury outside Brighton Station before kick-off, believed to have been caused by a pyrotechnic thrown as a missile.
01:54 Police confirmed the officer did not require hospital treatment and is now recovering.
01:59 Meanwhile, an army of tankers arrived in St Lennon's on Tuesday morning as a water company shut down its pumping station.
02:06 Southern Water held a three-day shutdown of Klink Ports Pumping Station in Bulverhive from Tuesday until Friday.
02:14 About 150 tankers were based along St Lennon's seafront and opposite the old bathing pool sites.
02:18 Specialist equipment has also been set up and Bulverhive car park had been closed throughout the duration of the shutdown.
02:24 Southern Water said the move was part of ongoing work to find a solution in order to stop the main sewer in the area from bursting.
02:31 A landscaper from Eastbourne said he ended up in hospital as a result of health issues caused by a black mould in his council home.
02:40 A man standing of Westerham Road said he does not feel comfortable in his home and has to sleep in his living room due to the damp and mould.
02:46 He believes the conditions in his home are responsible for the illnesses which had previously seen him hospitalised and more recently had difficulty in breathing and had to call an ambulance.
02:55 He said the issues have also had a massive impact financially due to the amount of heating he needs to keep the house warm.
03:01 The council has now apologised and said works to the property have begun.
03:06 A new Italian restaurant in Eastbourne is set to host weekly regularly live music nights.
03:11 Signor Panino, the new Italian restaurant in Grove Road which opened its doors in January has announced it will be offering live music every Saturday night.
03:19 The establishment which offers a culinary journey of Italian delight is owned by Lorenzo Canale and Nelly Precott, previous owners of Rostick in Terminus Road and renowned restauranteurs in the local area.
03:31 Finally, a series of online videos to help parents and carers in Sussex support their children to manage a wide range of mental health conditions are now available by the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
03:43 The live webinars focusing on anxiety, autism, eating disorders and sleep are available to access via the Sussex Partnership website.
03:52 Thousands of parents and carers across Sussex have benefited from the eight webinars that have already taken place.
04:00 The videos are a vital resource which can be accessed any time they need extra support.
04:04 Kate Stammers, clinical lead for Sussex Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services said these workshops are a vital tool in helping parents and carers understand their children's mental health and what they can do to support them.
04:17 We recognise the impact of the pandemic on children and young people's mental health and these workshops will help give some clarity to families who may be unsure as to handle certain situations.
04:28 I have Henry Bryant here with me now to speak about all things Brighton and Hovalbion.
04:32 Well Henry, there's only one place to start. What a win that was against Crystal Palace. Four goals and a dominant display. What did you make of that?
04:39 Well I just think from a Brighton perspective for us to bounce back after a really disappointing result against Luton just shows the characters that we've got in the dressing room.
04:50 You can see a manager that has a lot of charisma, a lot of personality and also has already impacted the English game in such a short amount of time in the Premier League as a manager.
05:01 So it's really great to see that we were able to come away with a win and in that fashion against our rivals was absolutely amazing.
05:10 It was really worth it and Deserby mentioned that he's spoken to his players a few times about getting things back going, back to normal and retaliating after a defeat in that manner that we had with two goals in the first two, three minutes of the game against Luton that we had away to them.
05:31 It was absolutely brilliant and great to see the local lad Jack Henshelwood and also Lewis Dunk on the score sheet as well.
05:40 Roberto Deserby said Bryson's win started last Tuesday night after the shock 4-0 defeat at Luton.
05:47 Lewis Dunk was among those most hurt by the defeat and Deserby admitted it wasn't a surprise to see him open the scoring just two minutes in against the Eagles.
05:54 How crucial was that early goal in sesting those nerves Henry?
05:59 Well when you look at the first two minutes of that game it was very nervy and you could tell that this was a real fierce rivalry between two clubs that don't have a lot of love for each other.
06:10 So for us to settle our nerves and not concede early and actually get the goal is something that is a big bonus to us because I think that sets up our win nicely and also set the stage for us to perform and do really well at home in front of loads of fans.
06:28 Loads of fans that were so chuffed and the roar of the fans you could just hear was incredible.
06:33 Jack Henshelwood of Fukunde Bonanote scored twice in two minutes to put the game beyond Roy Hodgson's side.
06:39 People without talisman Eze and Elisae. They were two brilliant goals and the atmosphere was absolutely rocking and obviously probably one of the finest moments in the club's history would you say Henry?
06:49 I think so. I think it was one of the finest moments just because of the way that we defeated them and I think that there has been a gap in the class of Brighton, Hove, Albion and Crystal Palace as of recently.
07:00 They're not performing too well in the league palace and it showed as well in the full time conference and also the interview that Roy Hodgson gave.
07:11 So what I think was interesting to see is in his interview Roy Hodgson was very quick to dismiss Brighton, didn't praise them at all and also was very quick to say that we should be beating teams like Brighton easily.
07:26 For us to not do that was a bad result and of course the fans aren't very happy. He was very short shrifted in the interview that he gave after that defeat to Brighton.
07:38 There's also a bit of ownership issue as well with Crystal Palace fans displaying a few banners in dismiss and dismay of their owners as well.
07:48 So a lot going wrong for Crystal Palace and clearly quite a few things going right for the Albion.
07:53 A slight blemish for Brighton came when Mateta grabbed the goal back. He was obviously a brilliant header but Brighton recovered really well and Joao Pedro sealed the win with a lovely finish after Danny Wuerlbert's beautiful assist.
08:06 How good was that goal Henry and does it really show how much of a partnership Pedro and Wuerlbert are forming for this Brighton side?
08:12 It's really nice to see because you've got someone like Wuerlbert who has got a whole host of experience in the Premier League complimenting Joao Pedro and the fashion that he did with that flick.
08:22 It was so nice, so silky and if Soccer AM were still going on right now it would have been all aboard the showboat because that guy Welbs would have been involved in that for sure, definitely.
08:34 Against Crystal Palace the survey hinted he wasn't entirely pleased with Brighton's January transfer business.
08:38 The Seagulls focused on signing teenagers who defended Valentin Barco, 19, joining from Rocky Juniors, midfielder Kamaroy Doyle, 18, arriving from Southampton,
08:47 goalkeeper Stephen Hall, leading up the under-21s after signing from Adelaide United, 19-year-old forward Kylain Vickers, swapping Reading for Albion and finally 18-year-old attacking midfielder Josh Robertson moving from Sunderland.
09:01 In the outgoings Mahmood Dahoud, who only signed for Brighton in the summer, made a deadline day loan to Stuttgart but his experience hasn't been replaced.
09:08 The survey said he thinks Albion are two players short to midfield.
09:11 So what did you make of that Henry? Do you agree that Brighton probably should have signed a bit more experienced midfield to cover for players they already have or do you think they did a decent job in the window?
09:23 I think if you're looking in a youth perspective that's what Brighton rely on, especially in the January transfer window. We're quite known for not doing too much in that window and doing most of our business in summer but for us to have signed a fair few players for the future is really nice to see and the standout one for sure is Valentin Barco and hopefully he'll be able to make an impact for sure.
09:47 In terms of midfielders you see the likes of Jakob Moder that's still in the squad despite a potential loan move for Everton on the cards being dismissed by him. He personally disagreed and did not want that move. Maybe you'll get some minutes now that Dahoud is not in the squad.
10:07 I do feel like we've got a good midfield base and it's more defensively that we should look at times because I feel like we've struggled in recent games and have been a bit leaky in defence and I think that's something we can definitely improve on as a team.
10:23 We've got players like Jean-Paul Van Ghec who has really come into the squad well and is making considerable progress. I think we should have a few other backup options because you've got the likes of the unfavoured Adam Webster as well who's not really proven to make that much difference this season either.
10:42 We could have done more in the January transfer window but it's not uncommon for us to not make these sort of moves and I think although he was disappointed it's sort of the same story for a lot of Bryson fans.
11:06 The game against Crystal Palace saw Ante Fatih return from injury which is obviously brilliant to see him back up for a long time out. How crucial will he be in the next few months and could he almost be like a new signing?
11:17 I think we need him to be this new signing for us and I think that's the risk that the board have taken here. Tony Bloom and Paul Barber need him to perform. We're paying millions in his wages so this will be an all or nothing moment in the season really if he's able to come back from injury and prove to everyone in the world, not just us, not just the Premier League but the footballing world, that he has this world-class potential.
11:47 Then we could be really onto a winner here and still maybe squeeze into one of those European positions for the end of the season which would fill a lot of Brighton fans with joy because I think that would be the ultimate goal of this season to finish in a 7th place position and do considerably well in the Europa League as well.
12:08 So let's see, I really hope so. I'm quite nervous for him to fully make his recovery and come back and start playing regular first team football with us.
12:20 How brilliant is it to have Matoma back Henry and how much of a difference can he also make?
12:49 I think it will make a real big difference for us. I watched the Wolves game where we drew 0-0 and not much happened that game and I noticed a lack of Matoma and a lack of creativity that we had on the wings and it seemed to me that we were sort of passing it around, looking to pass it into the net almost because we didn't have that creative flair of Karu Matoma who is literally able to take on 3, 4, 5 players on at a time which is ridiculous and move the ball up in the net.
13:18 I think for him to be back, for Antifatti to be back is something that could really be a make or break moment for us in this season and turn a difficult season with injuries into a successful one despite some mishaps and unfortunate luck.
13:43 Simon Idingeray is still at the African Cup of Nations thanks to his equalising goal for the Ivory Coast. He won't be there for the Tottenham game at the weekend.
13:57 How do you see Spurs going? They have two wins in five games in 2024 and they will be looking to bounce back after this pointing draw at Edmonton in which they conceded a 94th minute equaliser.
14:12 I think they will be coming into this one with all guns blazing. There has been a lot of controversy over the past few years with Brighton vs Spurs because of VAR decisions not going the way of Brighton and there are quite a few mishaps that normally go into that game off the pitch, not even on the pitch to be honest with you.
14:33 It will be a very interesting one. I think Brighton can do it though. I think the momentum that we have got and the fact that we have beaten Spurs a few times, not just recently but in general, we have been able to pick their defence and secure victories against them will give us a lot of confidence.
14:53 It's clear who the man in form is. Richarlison netted a brace at Goodison Park, taking his tally to nine goals in his past eight league appearances. The Brazilian netted only two goals in his first 39 league games. What has changed? What does Brighton need to do to keep him quiet?
15:07 I think he has finally gelled into the squad and he has finally been able to find his confidence because he had a lot of that when he was at Everton and he was performing particularly well for them. I believe that now he has finally gelled into the squad and he has been able to adapt to the playing style. It might have taken him a considerable amount of time but I feel like now he has adapted he can hit the ground running.
15:33 The right thing to do to stop him is sticking a man on him and making sure he doesn't leave his sight. Also, I think he has a very short temper, Richarlison, so potentially not winding him up but just making sure that players leave an impression on him in terms of making sure that he has not had the time or the space to move about and do what he wants on the pitch.
15:58 What will frustrate him a little bit is what I think De Zerbi will be planning on doing to stop that threat.
16:03 Who will be the danger men for Brighton? We have obviously mentioned that Matovian might be in contention. Who do you think? Obviously, Antifatti as we have mentioned. Would you like to see them start and who else could really make a difference for Brighton in this game?
16:18 I think it would be a no-brainer to say that Jal Pedro will be the star man of the show for Brighton and Hovaldi and even if Antifatti or Matovian is on the pitch, just because of the form he is in, the confidence he has got and also the chemistry that he has built up with the players in such a short amount of time being at the club. I feel like for him that would be great.
16:42 If we do get Antifatti on, I think it will probably be in the second half. I won't be starting the game, which is fair enough because it is quite a precautionary thing that De Zerbi might be doing there.
16:53 In terms of Matoma as well, having that attacking threat on the wings, even if it is for half of the game, would be brilliant. But in an ideal world, it would be great to see either Antifatti or Matoma playing and starting the game first and foremost, just because that gives us something a little bit different, an edge that we haven't had in recent games and could potentially be the difference.
17:18 And just a word on Pascal Gros, he got another two assists for Brighton against Crystal Palace. It was really him at his brilliant creative best. How crucial will he be at Spurs to find those gaps and find those passes into Matoma, Antifatti, Pedro, these kind of players?
17:36 We spoke about our top players for last season in a special edition episode and mine was Pascal Gros. I think that he has always been so consistent and he has been there from the very start of practically first signing in the Premier League when we did manage to go to the Premier League.
17:56 It was just crazy to see his progression, watching from the stands over the years. He has turned into a seasoned Premier League player and to see him at his best, to see him as an engine almost, controlling the attack and almost dictating our play and how we move the ball forward has been a joy to watch.
18:17 Not just as a supporter but just as a neutral as well if you're not watching because Brighton are a lot of people's second favourite team and a lot of that comes from the midfield work that goes into creating the attacks that make us so excited.
18:31 So Henry, how do you see the game going? What's your score prediction for the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
18:36 Well I think it will be a real difficult one but I'm hoping for a 2-1 win to Brighton with the likes of Antifatti getting on the score sheet and hopefully Jal Pedro as well.
