00:32Hello and welcome to Latest TV News.
00:34I'm Sam Morton, reporter for Sussex World,
00:37and in this week's show we'll be reflecting on another disappointing day
00:40for Brighton & Hove Albion after bitter rivals Crystal Palace
00:43secured a comfortable win at the Amex.
00:45We will also be looking ahead to the trip to West Ham
00:48as the Seagulls look to get back to winning ways.
00:51First, here are the top stories from across Sussex.
00:54The police made three arrests whilst a public protection order
00:57was in place during Crystal Palace's visit to Brighton & Hove Albion
01:00for a Premier League match.
01:02Sussex Police said on Sunday evening that its policing operation
01:05in Brighton's city centre has concluded.
01:08Photos taken before kick-off show Brighton swarming with police officers
01:12with a public protection order meaning that alcohol could be seized
01:15outside of licensed premises in the city.
01:19The police thanked the vast majority of fans who behaved responsibly
01:22before, during and after the game.
01:25On the day, officers made three arrests.
01:27Those arrested remained in custody for offences which included
01:30drunk and disorderly behaviour and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.
01:35Sussex Police worked with partners including Southern Rail,
01:38the British Transport Police, Brighton & Hove Albion FC
01:41and the Premier League to help ensure the day is as safe as possible
01:44for everyone attending.
01:46A pensioner has died after a collision on the A27 in Worthing.
01:50Police officers were called to a collision involving a Mercedes Vito van
01:54and a pedestrian on the A27 Crockhurst Hill near to the junction
01:58with the A24 Offington roundabout around 4.10pm on Friday December 6th.
02:04The pedestrian, a 75-year-old man from Worthing,
02:07was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
02:10In an update on Tuesday December 17th, a police spokesperson said
02:14A man who was seriously injured in a collision in Worthing earlier this month
02:17has sadly died. His family have been informed.
02:20The driver of the van was uninjured.
02:22Officers are now investigating the full circumstances of the incident
02:26and are appealing for any information or dashcam footage.
02:29If you have any information or footage, please email
02:38A bus company in East Sussex has announced that one of its bus routes
02:42will continue to be diverted until further notice.
02:45Stagecoach South East announced on Tuesday December 17th
02:48that it has been informed that Southern Water has been granted an extension
02:51to their permit for the closure of Saxon Road in Hastings.
02:55As a result, the service 321 will remain on diversion until further notice.
03:00Saxon Road has been closed from Monday 9th December
03:03and was due to reopen close of play Friday 13th
03:06whilst Southern Water carry out excavation works.
03:09The contractor has agreed that service 73 will be allowed through the closure
03:13as it is a school bus.
03:15But the 321 service will need to divert via Old London Road
03:18for the remainder of the closure.
03:20Buses will observe all stops whilst operating this diversion
03:23as customers may have walked through to the main road.
03:26Stagecoach said it regrets any inconvenience caused as a result of this diversion.
03:30A countryside campaigner in Sussex has called for clarity from local leaders
03:35after reports emerged of Labour's plan to override blockers
03:38standing in the way of building new homes.
03:41Andrew Griffith, the Member of Parliament for Arundel and South Downs
03:44criticised the government's decision to increase housing targets
03:47in the south east of England whilst reducing them in London.
03:50The Tory MP said the proposal was a sick joke.
03:53The Labour government's publication of its revised National Planning Policy Framework
03:58has reduced the capital's house building target by 10,830 homes a year
04:03and increased housing targets in the south east by 20,000.
04:07According to the Daily Mail, parts of England will need to build
04:1021 times more homes than they have been under Labour's bulldozer blitz.
04:15Ada in West Sussex came in 12th with a projected house building increase
04:19of 5.2 times its current rate.
04:21Hastings in East Sussex completed the list in 15th
04:24with a projected increase of 5 times its current rate.
04:27The National Newspaper's article read
04:29a breakdown of new targets has laid bare the scale of the demand
04:32being put on local authorities with London and the south east hardest hit.
04:37Finally, a Clanline steam train has made a rare visit to the south coast mainline
04:43for the railway touring companies Bath and Bristol Christmas Express.
04:46Hundreds of people visited stations and level crossings along the Sussex mainline
04:50on Saturday December 14th to watch as the steam train passed through.
04:54The train left three bridges hauled by the immaculately restored
04:57Merchant Navy Pacific Locomotive Clanline
05:00and headed south along the Brighton mainline.
05:03It stopped at Haywards Heath, Preston Park, Hove and Worthing
05:07to pick up more passengers before continuing on its journey along the coastal route
05:11as Clanline made a rare visit to the southern part of the national rail system.
05:16Hello, I'm Henry Bright, a reporter for Sussex World
05:19and I'm with Sam Morton and we've just watched
05:22Brighton lose out 3-1 against bitter rivals Crystal Palace.
05:26As you can see behind me a lot of police presence in this one
05:29and just wasn't the day for Brighton over Albion
05:32some really sloppy goals to concede
05:34a lot of questions to be asked in defence
05:37and clearly a bad day at the office
05:39but how would you sum this one up Sam?
05:41Yeah, as you say a bad day in the office for Brighton
05:43and it's four games without a win now
05:45first home league defeat of the season as well
05:48it was just poor from start to finish really
05:51I mean the first goal came from a corner which you never like to concede from
05:56I think it was a sloppy defending from that corner
05:59that allowed Chalaber to tap in the opener
06:02and Brighton, sloppy again in the sense that they managed to concede a second goal
06:08through his men of Sar
06:10again it was just really poor from Tarek Namdi this time
06:13a long ball put forward, Tyrek Mitchell beat Namdi to a header really easily
06:17put in a great cross at the back post
06:19and there was nothing the keeper could really do about it
06:22obviously two goals down at half time
06:24you think it's still time to come back
06:26and Brighton did play really well from the first
06:28I'd say five to ten minutes in the second half
06:30I think there was a change with Julio Hensito coming on for Lamptey
06:33which was a good change from Hensella
06:36in the sense that Hensito's obviously been limited to game time this season
06:39so he'd have a big point to prove
06:41and he did nearly score, it was a lovely one-two of Blaber
06:44and he curled a shot that was heading for the bottom corner
06:47but Henderson pulled out a really good save to deny that one
06:51but it was a decent response at that point
06:53and you felt like Brighton could get into it if they got a goal
06:56but they couldn't quite do it and had us weathered that storm
06:59and they managed to add to the lead and went 3-0 up
07:01with Ismail Sarr scoring his second of the evening
07:05the afternoon I should say
07:07and from that point on it was kind of game over, 3-0 down
07:11not really a lot of time to come back
07:13but they did manage to get a consolation goal
07:15a really scrappy own goal from Mark Gahee
07:17but that did little to lift the spirits in the stadium by that point
07:21it was very down and the stadium had emptied
07:24a lot of people had left after that third goal
07:26so I don't think there was many people to actually see that consolation goal
07:29so yeah, a really sad way for the day to go
07:33obviously it does leave Brighton in a bit of a position now
07:36where they need to start getting some form back sooner rather than later
07:39And final question from myself
07:41is Fabian Hazard in that post-match press conference
07:44he was very unhappy, maybe some would say furious
07:47at Michael Oliver making a small mistake in that first goal
07:51where during play he had hold of Carlos Boliva
07:55now do you think that Fabian has the sort of reason to be angry there
08:00or do you think that was just a small error in the game?
08:03Yeah, I think after a result like that he's definitely going to be angry
08:10he's going to be furious about certain things in the game that didn't go his way
08:13I wouldn't necessarily say that's the reason Brighton lost today
08:16I think he probably needs to forget that really quickly
08:19and think about reasons why they've lost today
08:23and reasons why their form has not been great
08:25I think that needs to take his priority
08:27and he's come out obviously really angry about
08:29and it's something he can do nothing about
08:31and I think he needs to focus on what he can and can't control
08:34and what needs to fix up pretty quickly I think
08:37because there are some fans that are rightly unhappy with the way things are at the moment
08:41I think obviously Brighton were looking really good
08:43in a potential Champions League push
08:46and that's what everyone was chanting for, that win at Bournemouth
08:49and just shows how quickly things can change in football
08:51and things haven't been great since then
08:53but it can easily change for the better
08:55and hopefully they can start getting some wins on the board again
08:59Thanks for that Sam
09:00Hopefully Brighton can get some run of form going into this festive period
09:05and also into the new year as well
09:07Time will tell if Albion can turn it around
09:09from a really successful first start of the season
09:12to a little bit of a lull coming into this festive period
09:15I've been Henry Brighton, that's been Sam Mawson
09:17and we'll have more coming like reaction and more later on
09:22Stay tuned for the Goalmouth Action Podcast
09:34Okay, welcome to another episode of the Goalmouth Action Podcast
09:38where we take a look at all the latest goings on at Brighton and Hove Albion
09:41I'm Darren Howard and this week I'm joined by Brighton writers
09:44Sam Mawson and Henry Bryant
09:46Thanks very much for joining us chaps
09:48Brighton endured another week to forget
09:50as they suffered a 3-1 home loss to old rivals Crystal Palace
09:54They're now winless in their last four
09:56We'll bring you all the reaction as well as a look ahead to Saturday's trip to West Ham
10:01and you can read all of the stories we're talking about
10:04with videos and pictures online at sussexworld.co.uk forward slash sport
10:09and you can check out other great videos on Shots TV and Freeview channel 262
10:14You may also be watching on latest TV
10:16So thank you very much for tuning in
10:18Henry, West Ham this Saturday
10:21Brighton have got a great record against them
10:23never lost in the Premier League
10:25I think it's two wins and five draws against West Ham
10:28since they were promoted to the Premier League
10:31What have you made of that record?
10:34It's...
10:35Josella sort of dismissed it this morning
10:37He said that it's you know
10:40he doesn't really sort of base it on facts
10:42on stats
10:43It's more about what's been going on in the last week or so
10:46He doesn't look too much into that
10:48but it's a good record for the fans isn't it as well
10:50and something for the fans to sort of hold on to
10:53Definitely
10:54I think for him
10:55when you're posed a question like that
10:58similar to a same sort of question I asked actually
11:02because against Crystal Palace
11:04Brighton hadn't lost in X amount of games
11:07Yeah, it was very much...
11:09It was your fault then
11:11It was your fault, yeah
11:12I know, all my fault
11:14I jinxed it
11:15but I think in terms of those sort of stats
11:19especially if they're positive
11:20and you're about to come up against a team
11:22it must be quite stress-inducing
11:24especially with a poor run of form so far
11:27so I get why he's trying to dismiss those
11:31because he's trying to manage expectation
11:34but at the same time
11:35it will be interesting to see how
11:37Brighton do against West Ham
11:39They're 14th in the Premier League at the moment
11:41They've been struggling
11:42I must say
11:44one thing that is worth noting is
11:47they do score late goals
11:48I mean in that last game
11:50against...
11:51they drew to Bournemouth
11:52It was 1-0
11:53All the goals came in the last sort of 10 minutes of the game
11:57I think they scored
11:59with Piqueta
12:00from a penalty in the 87th minute
12:02and then Bournemouth got a goal in the 90th minute
12:04so it will be interesting to see if
12:07Herzele and the players are able to have that full 90-minute performance
12:11that people are still looking for
12:13fans are still looking for that complete 90-minute performance
12:16because Brighton are still not their best
12:18and give it a season
12:19they may still not be at their very best
12:21because of the potential
12:22and the youthfulness of the players
12:26but with a record like that
12:27you'd hope that there is some sort of result here
12:30I think realistically
12:31with the form that Brighton have been in
12:33a draw here would be good enough
12:36to build some momentum
12:37and go away with a point
12:39would be nice
12:40I think a win would be great
12:42I think a win would be great
12:43but in terms of getting new players
12:45back into the squad
12:46if Veltman is fully fit
12:48then that would be exciting
12:50to see how he can influence the game
12:52but if he's still coming back
12:53just like we've seen with Lewis Dunk
12:54who has struggled in the games he has featured in
12:57I think this will be one of those tricky games
13:00where Brighton are trying to mould back in
13:02with players coming back from injury
13:04What have you made of Lopotegui's West Ham Sam?
13:09They do have a lot of attacking talent
13:11Mohamed Kudos
13:13I really like him
13:14he almost joined Brighton
13:15didn't he a little while back
13:16it was between West Ham and Brighton
13:18and in Somerville
13:19Brighton were in for Somerville
13:21he went for West Ham as well
13:23probably paid him a bit more money
13:24than Brighton were offering
13:27but they're good attacking players
13:31aren't they
13:32but they haven't quite clicked this season
13:34Exactly
13:35I think when I saw the signings
13:36they made in the summer
13:37I was expecting a really strong season
13:39from West Ham
13:40It looked like a good window for them
13:41Really good window
13:42you think
13:43Fulwrig coming in
13:44the striker with a lot of experience
13:46obviously you mentioned Somerville
13:48and you think
13:49those two players
13:50with Kudos and Bowen
13:51that has the makings
13:53of a really promising
13:55and exciting attacking line-up
13:57but it hasn't really worked out that way
13:59it still seems they're relying on
14:00Shushek to score from set pieces
14:02and it just seems
14:03it hasn't really worked out for them
14:06I've been disappointed
14:08from what I've seen
14:09from West Ham this season
14:10they've had some really disappointing results
14:13their game against Arsenal
14:14where they were 4-0 down
14:16really, really quickly
14:17it was incredible
14:18they had a bit of a resurgence
14:20and scored a couple of decent goals
14:21including a sensational free kick
14:23from Emerson
14:24you have the talent there
14:26and the players that can produce moments
14:27out of nothing
14:29but there is definitely something missing
14:31and they really have struggled
14:33so far this season
14:34and you kind of felt
14:35obviously away at Bournemouth
14:36when they got that late penalty
14:3887th minute
14:40you think
14:41hold on, surely
14:42it's been 0-0 the entire game
14:44you've seemingly got the winner
14:45and yet they still managed to concede
14:47and it was an incredible free kick
14:49you can't put too much blame on them for that
14:51but it just seems to sum up
14:52West Ham's season really
14:53that it just hasn't really
14:54been going to plan for them
14:56so it will be an interesting one
14:58against Brighton
14:59but I think from a Brighton perspective
15:01this is one that they need to win
15:03I think to get that momentum back
15:04they've had a few disappointing results
15:07of late Brighton
15:08and I think it's really important now
15:09that they just get that winning mentality back
15:11and especially West Ham have won
15:13just one of their last 14
15:14Premier League meetings with Brighton
15:16so I feel like it's a game
15:18that Brighton should be confident going into
15:20it's obviously two out of form teams
15:22but I think Brighton
15:24in terms of quality
15:25and the players they have
15:27they've got the edge
15:28and I feel like it's a game
15:30that really Brighton should be looking to win
15:33and get an early goal
15:34and settle those early nerves
15:35because I'm sure they will be
15:36going into the game
15:37and some questions being asked
15:39all over the pitch
15:40so yeah
15:41I think get a couple of goals early on
15:42settle those nerves
15:43and go from there
15:45go from there, yeah
15:46they're a funny old team West Ham
15:47aren't they, Henry?
15:49there's been a lot of talk about
15:51the atmosphere at the Amex Stadium
15:53after Brighton's game
15:54against Crystal Palace
15:55and I always find at West Ham now
15:57when you go there
15:58the atmosphere is
16:00you're so far back
16:02from the pitch aren't you
16:03it's almost like oh there's a game of football
16:04going on somewhere
16:05somewhere over there
16:06and you just seem a bit distanced
16:08do you think that's still
16:10still a bit of an issue at West Ham?
16:12I think so
16:13and I haven't been there personally
16:15but from watching
16:17sort of stadium tours
16:18and things like that
16:19because I'm into looking at the stadiums
16:21ticking them off the old list as it goes
16:23but it does seem like
16:25atmosphere wise
16:27when you're that far away
16:28your home supporters
16:29are that far away from the pitch
16:31it's almost like
16:33they're back in lockdown
16:34if they're having a poor game
16:36because there's going to be no
16:37sort of atmosphere
16:39I have to say
16:40I know that West Ham fans
16:41are meant to be quite rowdy
16:42you know
16:43they're quite on it
16:45so maybe they make up for it
16:46in that aspect
16:47but I think that's a big thing
16:49I think with the Amex
16:50they're not known to have
16:51the world's best atmosphere either
16:53to be blunt with it
16:54they're not the world's best atmosphere
16:56but at least you're close to the game
16:58you're very much
17:00not as packed in as Craven Cottage
17:01but you're not so far away
17:04so I wonder
17:06it'd be interesting to know
17:07from players actually
17:08if when the going gets tough
17:10that that impact of the fans
17:12being close to them
17:13whether that can turn the tide on games
17:16because it does seem like
17:17they've been really struggling
17:18there's been a sort of
17:19lack of confidence really
17:21obviously they've had
17:22a real bad incident as well
17:24internally in the club
17:25with Antonio
17:27sort of getting involved
17:28in that accident
17:29luckily he's fortunately
17:32in a stable condition
17:33but he's out as well
17:35he's out
17:36look, Peggy's father died
17:37this week as well
17:38didn't he?
17:39so he's been back
17:40for the funeral
17:41this week as well
17:42so it's been a long disruption
17:43yeah
17:44attending the funeral
17:45before the game
17:46if I'm correct in saying
17:47so
17:48yeah
17:49it seems like
17:51they need to sort of use that
17:54to fuel
17:56their sort of mentality
17:58to get back on the horse
18:00and go for it
18:01and that's quite a difficult thing to beat
18:03if you've got that mentality
18:05of the going's got really tough
18:07sort of in personal lives
18:09so that's why
18:11as a Bryson fan
18:12I'm thinking a draw
18:13might be the result here
18:15because they're trying to fuel
18:16fuel the fire
18:18West Ham
18:19they're trying to
18:20sort of make good
18:21of some unfortunate situations
18:22bad situations
18:23yeah
18:24we'll see
18:25yeah, no
18:26it'd be an interesting one
18:27it'd certainly be an interesting one
18:29Sam, we were speaking about
18:31some potential new arrivals
18:32in January
18:33Henry was sort of
18:34highlighting the need
18:35for maybe some leaders
18:36coming in
18:37one player who has come in
18:38another young talent
18:39from the MLS
18:40Diogo Gomes
18:41he sort of flew in
18:42arrived at Heathrow this week
18:44and then went to the
18:45he was given a tour
18:46of the Bryson training ground
18:47as well
18:48met up with
18:49Julio and Cisso
18:50met up with
18:51with Herzéla
18:53what do you think about
18:55his arrival?
18:56obviously he can't play until
18:58January the 1st
18:59or January the 4th
19:01would be the first game
19:02against Arsenal's first game
19:03he's available for it
19:04but nice to see him in the building
19:06as it were
19:07and getting ready
19:08and up to speed
19:10yeah, absolutely
19:11it was good to see him introduced
19:12to the fans
19:13before the Crystal Palace game
19:15it was a real high point
19:16from the day
19:17because obviously it's a signing
19:18that we've known about
19:19for a long time
19:20but it hasn't officially been confirmed
19:21until obviously very recently
19:23so it's a really exciting signing
19:25I think Herzéla is very
19:27encouraged
19:28and he's very excited
19:29to work with him
19:30because he actually
19:31when he was asked
19:32what role he would take
19:33he was going to go
19:34kind of straight into the squad
19:36he was going to be making
19:37appearances straight away
19:38and he said he would be
19:39because he was going to go
19:40straight into that
19:41kind of first team
19:42and he'll be in with the chance
19:43of getting minutes
19:44right from the off
19:45which is really exciting to hear
19:47but obviously
19:48he knows more than anyone
19:50it's going to take time
19:51for him to adjust
19:52to a completely new league
19:53in a new country
19:54and hopefully GDM and CSO
19:56can really help him do that
19:57and it could be something
19:59which actually gets the best out of him
20:00in CSO as well
20:01so hopefully we've seen them
20:03link up together at Paraguay
20:05and quite often
20:06you see them both performing well
20:07at the same time for them as well
20:08so I'm really hoping
20:09they can replicate that
20:10in a brightened shirt
20:12so yeah
20:13when Herster was asked about it
20:14he said
20:15he will go straight into
20:16the first team squad
20:17he has the right attitude
20:18towards football
20:19he loves to play
20:20and you can feel his passion
20:21in every talk
20:22also when you see him
20:23playing for Paraguay
20:24and for Inter Miami
20:25you see that he's ready to sprint
20:26ready to make the last step
20:27and ready to give everything
20:28for his club
20:29and that's something
20:30we need at Brighton
20:31players' passion for football
20:32with the right attitude
20:33and working to improve
20:34and get better every day
20:35and there's something
20:36inside of him that's special
20:37for such a young player
20:38so I think those words
20:39says it all really
20:40he's speaking very highly
20:41of this young man
20:42and hopefully
20:43he can really
20:44have a good start to life
20:45in Brighton
20:46yeah
20:47yeah
20:48and that's
20:49like you say
20:50that link up between
20:51Enciso as well
20:52will be interesting
20:53I thought he was the one
20:54positive to come out
20:55of that Crystal Palace defeat
20:56Enciso's second half
20:57displays
20:58so hopefully
20:59that's encouraging
21:00for them going forward
21:01but yeah
21:02let's move on
21:03to the score predictions
21:04so Brighton
21:05at West Ham
21:06Henry
21:07what's your thoughts
21:08for that one?
21:09yeah
21:10yeah
21:11I do
21:12do
21:13I know I've echoed it
21:14but I do think
21:151-0 would be
21:16a good result
21:17obviously
21:18it would be fantastic
21:19to win
21:20but I think
21:21if Brighton were able
21:22to come out of this
21:23with a solid
21:2490 minute performance
21:25I think that's another
21:26thing as well
21:27is
21:28as weird as it is
21:29to say
21:30if we went
21:31another 2-0 up
21:32and then
21:33conceded again
21:34in those last
21:35sort of stages
21:36of the game
21:37it would be like
21:38a broken record
21:39and I think
21:40that's a personality
21:41trait of Brighton
21:42to have a fantastic
21:43start
21:44so
21:45I think if Brighton
21:46can have a really
21:47solid 90 minute performance
21:48and draw the game
21:491-1
21:50having played well
21:51and something to build on
21:52I think that would be
21:53would be good
21:54yeah
21:55Sam
21:56I'm going to go
21:57optimistic
21:58I think
21:59they've struggled
22:00to keep a clean sheet
22:01so I'm going to go
22:022-1 I think
22:03for Brighton
22:04this weekend
22:05what do you think?
22:06I was going to say
22:07the same
22:08I was there
22:09at West Ham last season
22:10which ended in a
22:11goalless draw
22:12it was actually
22:13right at the start
22:14of this year
22:15first game of 2024
22:16and it was
22:17yeah
22:18a pretty dour game
22:19pretty dour game
22:20it was
22:21I'm hoping
22:22as I'm going up there
22:23on Saturday
22:24I'm hoping for a bit
22:25of a better
22:26better game
22:27to watch
22:28but I'm confident
22:29Brighton can
22:30can get back
22:31to winning ways
22:32at a struggling
22:33West Ham
22:34so I'm going to go
22:352-1
22:362-1 yeah
22:37let's hope so
