00:00You know what else Slater said, which actually, Grandy, I'd love it if you could find this,
00:06because I might need it.
00:07I might need it to put up my dukes with both Pods and Steve Kerr today.
00:11Oh, boy.
00:12Well, I mean, look, I'm well aware that this all got to them, and that's fine.
00:18But Slates actually said something this morning that probably, in a couple of sentences, maybe
00:25did a better job of expressing what I was trying to express, even though I had four
00:30hours to express it.
00:32Which is to say, there's no criticism of you holding Steph out, but here's what I'm thinking.
00:41If that's where we are on March 17th, and I know it ended up being March 18th, but it
00:46was after the game on March 17th when Steve brought up, we got to give serious consideration
00:53to sitting Steph Curry.
00:56If that's where you are in March, I think it's fair to remain incredibly skeptical that
01:04what you're actually doing is going on a potential championship run.
01:08I think it's very, very difficult to sort of pitch those two things at the same time.
01:15It's not a criticism.
01:16Dog, you're 37 years old.
01:19You're 37.
01:22And your best friends on the team are 35.
01:25And that is very, very difficult.
01:28And if it doesn't rear its ugly head, I'm willing as a fan to sit here and go, all right,
01:34I'll go on this magical journey with you, but when you start having three games in four
01:40nights and you need to tap out, then I think it's fair to remain skeptical.
01:46That's it.
01:47That's it.
01:48The players know his body better than I do, and he knows his body better than I do.
01:53But the whole city's been very caught up with, oh my God, they're going to do it again.
01:58And you keep testing me and I keep giving you the same answer, which is, I'm here for
02:03it.
02:04You are.
02:05I'm hopeful.
02:06Always.
02:07But I'm going to bet against it.
02:08Of course.
02:09Because they are in their late thirties and need rest.
02:12And they will be underdog if, you know, shout out the app, no matter who they play in the
02:18first round is Willard.
02:19I just, I pushed back a little bit of the notion that like him sitting now is a bad
02:26thing for me, him sitting Steph Curry, and I don't know if he'll play tomorrow night,
02:31hopefully.
02:32And, you know, stay tuned to 95, seven, the game for all the latest and Steve her coming
02:35up at four 30.
02:36But I can't help but think that him sitting doesn't actually help them to win games when
02:43Thursday, when Saturday, when all the other games, because yeah, and it's easy to say
02:49because they went out last night and they won, they won.
02:51So that's awesome.
02:52I do think that a more rested staff is going to be a better staff.
02:56And when you have a better staff, you have a better chance to win.
02:58Well, look, um, they ended up, they, they, they got it.
03:02They ended up, they won the game.
03:04So you, you snuck one past the goalie there.
03:07That's awesome.
03:08I, I was very, very nervous about last night's game.
03:12I think if you lose last night's game, you are, you're in a very, very difficult hole
03:17that quickly.
03:19If you were to lose, I don't think there's any more losing back-to-back games like that.
03:24That feels kind of preventative the rest of the way.
03:26And that's all I'm saying.
03:28Like they're this stranglehold that, that a lot of fans seem to believe they have on
03:32the six seat.
03:33They don't have, no, of course not all.
03:35This is very, very, um, I don't want to use the word flimsy, but it's tenuous.
03:41It's very tenuous.
03:42Sure.
03:43They're one game up on the eight right now.
03:45And if you would have lost last night, you would have been tied with the Clippers for
03:47the eight.
03:48And I think that they have the tiebreaker.
03:50So they do.
03:51You would have been eight.
03:52You would have been the eight.
03:53Right.
03:54And Minnesota would have a half game lead on you had you lost.
03:56And so you went out there and you won and you've got 13 more games and you know, whether
04:01or not you need to win 10 of them to be the six or nine or whatever the number is, you
04:05do need to win a good number of games.
04:08And so for me, last night was about, you know, found money a little bit because you
04:12rested Steph and you wanted to rest Steph because he needed the rest and then he might
04:17be hurt.
04:18He may not play tomorrow.
04:19We don't know.
04:20Hopefully Steve Kerr at 430 can update us on his back, his neck and his back.
04:25And you know, if he doesn't play Thursday, can you still win?
04:29Of course.
04:30Well, yeah, you, you, you can, but in general, like I'm, I'm going to continue to sit here
04:35and say that if, if bodies and minds and spirits are, are starting to break down and
04:43waver as you approach the playoffs, I will stay over here in skeptical ville and it doesn't
04:50mean I'm right.
04:51And it doesn't mean it's what I'm rooting for, but that that's the point.
04:55The point is, is that this needs to be full bore, full effort every night because that's
05:01the situation you're in.
05:03And I thought Draymond green said that after the game on Monday, we're all tired, got to
05:08find a way.
05:09Anthony Slater said this to the morning roast earlier today, this has been kind of a winding
05:15season, but they found a chance to spot rest them last night.
05:18I think that'll help.
05:19But the reality is he has a marathon ahead of him.
05:21If they're really going to make a deep run and that's tough on not only his body, Jimmy
05:25Butler's 35, Draymond green's 35.
05:27So that is what makes me the most skeptical of the idea that they're now, you know, a
05:32true title contender is, is just the age and accumulation that that is ahead for really,
05:38you know, a two month sprint.
05:39If you're really going to get into June, that's, that's where my head was yesterday and remains
05:45today though.
05:47It has a healthy dose of relief mixed in when they fell down by six last night.
05:51I got nervous.
05:52I really, the last night was one of those where I really, I watched that one on the
05:56edge of my seat and a lot of friends got a lot of text messages during commercial breaks
06:01and that one of them even called me out on it because she's like, you, you texted me
06:06during the commercial.
06:07She's like, you're, you're like, you, you, you're nervous, aren't you?
06:11I'm like, yes.
06:12Cause I can't sit still with this.
06:13This is a humongous basketball game.
06:17Um, partially why it hit me so much that Steph Curry didn't play in it.
06:21Right.
06:22And it was a little bit of a weird spot where the third quarter kind of started getting
06:25sideways where they opened up the quarter with a big lead.
06:28They opened it up with a 14 point lead coming out of halftime and then it, you know, got
06:33down to 10 and 12 and eight and now you're down six and Jonathan Kaminga travels on the
06:38sideline and the travel was, I don't know, for me as a CYO referee, I see that all the
06:44time and it's one that when you see it, when they're eight years old, you don't call that
06:48on right.
06:49But honestly in the NBA, you could call that travel anytime you want.
06:54Well, we don't get a lot of like stand still, pivot, pivot, pivot.
06:58It was like a pivot, swivel, swivel, pivot, pivot, swivel.
07:02And I get, I mean the ref is watching it going, okay, that's about enough.
07:05Right.
07:06Like that was five steps and I get it.
07:08But you don't often see that.
07:09Like a travel called when a player is going nowhere, you don't often see traveling called
07:14in the NBA.
07:15End of sentence.
07:16Well, like when you see traveling, it's normally because a player is actually traveling in
07:21a, in a direction, taking four steps.
07:24Right.
07:25Kaminga was just like my pivot, my pivot, my swivel, my pivot, my pivot, my swivel.
07:29And the ref was like, you could see his face.
07:31It's like, okay, that's about enough of that.
07:32It's funny that this conversation is coming up when Giannis was in town.
07:35It was one of my favorite NBA YouTube videos.
07:38Y'all should search it.
07:40Search Giannis one dribble.
07:43And it's, it's a highlight of Giannis basically.
07:45I don't know.
07:46I can't remember if he gets a rebound or he's given an outlet pass, but he basically gets
07:50the ball right around at his own free throw line.
07:55And I know this won't make sense to hear me say it.
07:57You have to go watch it.
07:59He takes one dribble and then lays the ball in on the other end of the court.
08:04He goes three quarters of the court with one dribble crazy and nothing is called.
08:10We've got long strides.
08:11He does, but it's also humanly impossible to do what he did and not have it be traveling,
08:17but they don't call it traveling in the NBA.
08:19They called it on Jonathan Kamenga last night.
08:22Let's go to the phones.
08:23888-957-9570.
08:27What in your mind is the observation that plays off of last night's victory with Steph
08:31Curry on the bench?
08:32Dave in San Jose.
08:33Hi Dave.
08:34Thank you for calling.
08:35Hi.
08:36What stood out to me was that Curry decided to play 12 guys last night and it wasn't garbage
08:46minutes.
08:48It was definitely some good minutes.
08:52So it was a whole team victory.
08:56They all contributed to the stat line, either rebounds, assists, points, whatever.
09:01It was a real team victory last night.
09:05So you're referencing the fact that, and I get where you're coming from Dave, it wasn't
09:08a lot of minutes, but you said it yesterday and it came true, TJD went in.
09:14He only played four minutes, but they were real minutes.
09:17There were no garbage time minutes in the game last night.
09:19No.
09:20Pat Spencer got six.
09:21He got a bucket too.
09:22I know you love to play over or under half a point for Pat Spencer.
09:27Pay the over.
09:28Right.
09:29And they actually played 14 guys, but I guess we won't count Uri Collins and Kevin Knox
09:34for getting less than a full minute.
09:36Yeah, they technically logged zero minutes, though they did go onto the floor.
09:40Yeah, they actually, you know, they had to shower.
09:41I'm sure they got out there and they actually played basketball.
09:44That's a good thing to do at the end of the day, no matter whether you play or not.
09:47Normally, but I do think that we have the answer about like whose minutes Kaminga will
09:51take and it's Guy and Guy played eight minutes.
09:53And so that's kind of the way that's going to go.
09:56And you know, it's just, you're going to have spots for Guy, I do think, but in general
10:01Kaminga, and even though he didn't play great, I do think that he brings something that nobody
10:06else brings on this team.
10:09I mean, when I see that, like, yeah, Guy Santos played eight minutes, yet still found
10:16a way to get four rebounds, right?
10:19He hit his only shot like, I wonder if that, and that's something we could ask Steve.
10:25Was that more of a matchup thing?
10:26Because his literal quote last week was, I have to keep playing Guy Santos.
10:29Yeah.
10:30And then last night he didn't play a whole lot of Guy Santos.
10:32I don't know if that was a matchup thing or if truly Jonathan Kaminga is going to get
10:37the Guy Santos minutes, which, you know, yeah, maybe that is what it is.
10:41Right.
10:42And I get that.
10:43And all the heeled haters, 888-957-9570, go ahead and line up the phone lines.
10:48You won't.
10:49And I actually said this on Twitter, like, bad night for the heeled haters because this
10:54is what Buddy does.
10:55And Buddy was four of six from three, five of seven from the field.
11:00Buddy was catch and shoot in the zone, knocking them down.
11:04And yeah, tomorrow night he'll probably go oh six from three and the haters can come
11:09on back out.
11:10But this is Buddy Heeled.
11:12This is the experience.
11:13Do you ever feel like here in the whole sports media world that you and I sit here, it's
11:19actually for more than four hours because we go to the come to the crossover for over
11:24four hours.
11:26We sit here and talk about different things and break different things down and hypotheticals
11:33and curiosity and all of the things that we do.
11:37And there are times after a game that we could actually sum everything up in one sentence.
11:43Warriors hit the shots last night.
11:45Thank you for coming to the show.
11:47Now I'm going to go home.
11:48Well, we got four hours.
11:50I know, but that's my point.
11:51Like we analyze the NBA at such a level and there are nights where I look at it in the
11:58last two nights, back to back nights.
12:01There's a little bit of that.
12:02There's your analysis.
12:03Monday, no threes.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Tuesday, threes.
12:06You lose, you win.
12:07Better.
12:08Of course, there's more to it than that.
12:09And I do think that last night, for me, the big headline was not the threes.
12:10It was Draymond.
12:11Draymond versus Giannis.
12:12Of course, of course.
12:13Like 6-5 against 7-1.
12:14And Draymond was not only better, he took him out of the game.
12:15And okay, Dame.
12:16Dame, look.
12:17I'm going to go home.
12:18I'm going to go home.
12:19I'm going to go home.
12:20I'm going to go home.
12:21I'm going to go home.
12:22I'm going to go home.
12:23I'm going to go home.
12:25But that's true.
12:26And Draymond was not only better, he took him out of the game.
12:29And okay Dame.
12:30Dame Lillard go ahead and take over.
12:32Ooh.
12:33That's right.
12:34The Warriors don't play in Oakland anymore.
12:35This is San Francisco and maybe it's your kryptonite, because it's not Oakland.
12:40And when you're in Oakland you're something special.
12:43And this is the city and Dame Lillard was not great.
12:46I love Dame Lillard.
12:48He, look, he is going to be 35 here in a couple of months also.
12:53I'll just say this. This is not meant to be a criticism. He's a wonderful players at a wonderful career
12:58It's awesome. Dame Lillard is not a high-level NBA one difference maker anymore
13:05and and I do think he was even though he never got over the hump or even to the hump, but
13:11You know
13:12He was that guy in Portland for a long long time and they did have some special seasons with not a lot going on around
13:19And maybe it is that he's partially just taking a backseat to Yannis to a degree
13:24But I see Dame Lillard is a really really good piece, but that's kind of it at this point in his career
13:30Yeah, maybe and you know
13:32It's hard for me because yesterday was the day that I met with my tax guy and my tax guy is actually
13:38He's a family friend of Damian Lillard. Oh, no, it just happened to fall on the day when Dame was in town
13:43So we're doing our thing and shout out Curtis and we're over in Alameda and I'm giving him my forms and he's you know
13:50Running his material about Dame and this and that and you know, Merle Catholic football and all the rest of it
13:56He's like, you know dames coming dames, you know dames coming for you dames coming tonight and I'm like, yes Dame
14:02Sure, and steps out so I get it Milwaukee and Dame and so it just happened to be on the day where I met
14:10With my guy and he's you know family friends with Dame and he's always been like team Dame and Dave's amazing
14:15He'll be a Hall of Famer
14:17But I mean Dave's not Steph six of 18 from the field
14:21Right two of nine from three so on a game where your number one Yannis is being
14:27You know kind of taken out of the game five of sixteen no buckets on Draymond
14:32That's a night where if Dame is really the dude
14:35Dame goes 12 of 23 and Dame puts up 44 and you beat a team without Steph and you get that done
14:43But 6 of 18 6 of 18 and an L
14:47Brandon Pajewski joins us in 40 minutes. Let's go to the phones or keep going to the phones
14:50How about Scott Moran? Hi Scott. Thanks for calling
14:55Hey guys, how you doing? Yeah, I just a couple really you quick things
14:59First of all, I caught the when you guys had the little crossover there
15:04That that SF gate dude is an idiot. I mean, I
15:08I'm glad somebody actually said something where you could actually hear this guy's a moron
15:13I've never seen a writer like that in my life. But anyway, other than that, uh, yeah
15:18I want to get back to you in it and mark you you had a good point about
15:23Cominga that's what will set him apart
15:27He's gotta make the free throws if he does if he stays at a 65% clip
15:32He's never gonna be that player. That's what makes Jimmy Jimmy. He gets fouled. He shoots about 80%
15:39That's what makes you dangerous with the shoes 65%
15:43It's not gonna work, but and I and I also wanted to say with Steph
15:47I I didn't I didn't see the the postgame show
15:51After the game on Monday night, but Steph's down it actually like he was sick
15:56So so that that might have been an issue too. He just didn't sound right maybe
15:59Yeah
16:02Thanks so much pre appreciate you appreciate your thoughts on think about it Scott
16:06I don't know how many kids you have mark you got three and I've got a baby at two and a half year old and
16:11Like I've been sick for about five months because well you send your kid to preschool. You're at that age
16:16I'm not a kid that age, too
16:19Right, right, and I don't know what what the youngster actually does
16:23Kion or I know it's cannons little brother
16:26I would think on the night of a game that Steph stays over in a different wing than the other than the children
16:32Maybe who knows but at the same time like his kids are like 14 11 7 and 2
16:39So then again, I mean an NBA player does not sit out because of the sniffles
16:44Again, I did sound to me a little bit sick Scott look
16:48And I can't I can't I will not I cannot speak on another man's
16:53Body and I've never seen that by the way DNP sniffles
16:58How close are we to that though, I mean we get DNP. I don't wanna yeah, we get that
17:06DNP rest right? That's right. There are nights DNP. Oh
17:11Well, we get DNP it non kovat illness. Yeah, I don't know what the extent of the illness is
17:16But normally that's like a flu or something. That's like I don't know for sure
17:21I
17:22Would pay money to see it
17:25Over that would be absolutely fantastic
17:28DNP late night in New York City
17:30Listen, okay
17:31All we can do is take Steve Kerr at face value and he says and maybe this was the observation that plays
17:39When I see him making poor decisions, I know that he's overwhelmed emotionally
17:45He is emotionally and mentally
17:48Exhausted and so we need to sit him out because he's been carrying us for so long and
17:54My rebuttal as I tried to say all day yesterday is that's fine if you want to do that
18:01But I'm gonna be over here in like what would stop this from happening again
18:06Like why why why would a clear-thinking fan believe the Warriors are actual title contenders out of the six seed?
18:15When their star player is is feeling overwhelmed emotionally and mentally in in March
18:22I just think that that's a hell of a challenge to overcome it is at age 37
18:27But I think that a more rested staff in April is better than a staff that you have to like push to the brink all
18:33The way through March just to get there. Yeah, absolutely
18:37Let's do let's do one more. How about rich and Fresno? Hi Rich. What's going on?
18:43Hey, good day gentlemen, thank you for having me on. Yep. What's up? I love in the show
18:48Yes, so, you know the Warriors were one of the best teams
18:51I mean still are but while coming it was out and I don't think it's a coincidence
18:54They come in he comes back in and they lose to the Nuggets without Yoko. It's your Murray
19:00And I've been saying for years I think they should trade coming
19:03I don't think it's a good fit for him or the Warriors and now that they've got Jimmy Butler
19:08You know seems like they are actually trying to help Steph get his fifth or sixth ring and
19:14I think here it's a big mistake to be trying to balance both, you know, like the two timeline thing and
19:21I think it's pretty obvious to me. They need to trade coming
19:24Yeah, they would have traded him now, you know
19:26They could have had someone who helps them win a chip better or they could have got a expiring contract to have more money to give
19:32players next year who could help us more than coming good and
19:35So now in hindsight, I've been saying that but it just seems more obvious to me and I really hope they do that
19:40I I guess rich my response to that and it's a fair opinion to have I guess if you want to have it is
19:46Um, I'm not a fan of just this idea of trade cominga for who?
19:52for who
19:53Like if you've got something in mind
19:56Then I'm listening like they were gonna trade Jonathan cominga for Kevin Durant. They were gonna do that
20:02But they didn't do that it didn't come together they get to keep him
20:07I'm not just like get Jonathan off the team
20:11I think that like anyone else not named Steph Curry and probably Draymond and to a degree Jimmy
20:18But even who knows I don't know where this is all gonna go next like yeah, you listen on on anyone
20:24So maybe there's a way to get better in the offseason by doing that
20:28But I do hear from a lot of people who got a trade cominga. We don't have to I'm not like
20:33I'm not in that mode get off the team depends on what he's going to command in the open market and he is
20:39Restricted so you can actually sign him and then trade him if that's what you want to do
