00:00Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:05All right, the crossover is brought to you by Abundant Life Weight Loss.
00:09They know the secret to losing up to one pound of fat every day.
00:12Go to AbundantLifeWeightLoss.com.
00:15Let's welcome in Mark Willard, Dan Dibley.
00:17It is the crossover, and what do you guys think?
00:22Where were you when?
00:23I'm assuming you're not coming into the show cold today and saying, what are we talking
00:28about?
00:30I was surprised to walk into the debate that I just heard, which was you two talking about
00:35like Myles Garrett, golf clothing, and whether you have more of it.
00:40I was like, that's the debate we're having.
00:42That was during the break.
00:43I know.
00:44We dare not do that today on The Am.
00:46No, no, no.
00:47And I came in today after a week away, and I was just thinking like, yeah, thank you.
00:52Like, what did I miss, guys?
00:54Catch me up.
00:55I mean, anything happen while I was gone?
00:57Super Bowl week.
00:58Yeah.
00:59Yeah.
01:00Apparently not.
01:01Did everyone have the, like, how many times did you have to be told it was real before
01:05you realized it was real?
01:07Five.
01:08Was it five?
01:09It was five.
01:10I took the under.
01:11For me, it was three.
01:12My son gave up after three tries.
01:13He called from downstairs.
01:15Just imagine the voice.
01:16Nice.
01:17The voice.
01:18Which son?
01:19Abe.
01:20The older, 18-year-old.
01:21Dad, I normally don't call you, but did you see this?
01:22Dude, Saturday night, I had taken Christy to dinner.
01:25We had had a cocktail.
01:27That's a lot for you.
01:28It's a huge night.
01:29So, like, I'm half asleep on the couch.
01:32Dad, did you just trade a Luka to the Lakers?
01:36And I'm like, whatever stupid game you're trying to launch right now, I'm too tired
01:41for it.
01:42Go to your room.
01:43I'm already in my room.
01:44He tried.
01:45I'm never not in my room.
01:46Exactly.
01:47He tried three times, and I'm like, I'm not doing this, and he gave up.
01:51Well, come to think of it.
01:53But then I was like, dude, give me my phone.
01:55Yeah.
01:56And then you're like, whoa.
01:58Well, Saturday I wasn't watching the game, so I went to bed Saturday night, knew nothing.
02:05And then I woke up, and I checked our, we have a golf thread.
02:09And I was seeing if everybody was playing today, but in the golf thread, somebody said,
02:14well, I don't know what's going on.
02:15Luka's a Laker.
02:17And I just read it, and I just, you know, like, whatever.
02:21You know what I said?
02:24What's Craig talking about this time?
02:27And so I didn't even do anything.
02:29Like I didn't even, it's not, it didn't really register.
02:32It's so absurd that it's like, we don't need to do this exercise.
02:35Right.
02:36Right.
02:37It ruined, it almost ruined a comedy show I was at, because you were allowed to bring
02:42phones in, and you could hear people whispering about it.
02:46I knew everyone was talking.
02:47You could hear, first round picks, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
02:50Who's on stage?
02:51Because whoever that comic was, I feel terrible for that.
02:54Alex Moffat.
02:55He used to be on SNL.
02:56He's really, really funny.
02:57He's up there killing it.
02:58And everyone's like, he was hilarious.
03:00And you just hear, you just hear Lakers, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
03:04How did they, the word fleece was thrown around a lot.
03:07And it's like, I'm looking at my phone.
03:09Yeah, well, if everybody's talking about it, then this must be real.
03:13And I didn't get got.
03:14So yeah, sorry, Alex.
03:16The attention was off of you and apparently on Sham Sharani.
03:18Did he pivot the comic?
03:20Like, hold on, everyone.
03:21What, what's going on?
03:22Or did he just keep going with, with his bit?
03:24He was doing actually, he was doing a really funny piano bit where he was singing Piano
03:28Man, but he didn't know how to play the piano.
03:31And so he was terrible.
03:32And he was hitting all these off keys.
03:35And so that's why you could kind of just hear whispers because he was playing really loudly.
03:39But then finally, after the show ended, it was, thank God, it was his last joke.
03:42Because after that, everybody just took off and started, oh my gosh, what's going on?
03:45Luke of the Lakers, all the rest.
03:48And he was waiting to sign autographs.
03:49And I feel like the line would have been three times as long if people weren't concerned
03:52with what's going on in the NBA.
03:54No doubt.
03:55We were watching some programming that is more spousal friendly.
03:58And so, you know, I have the phone out or, you know, the laptop, usually I'll watch a
04:01game and she'll watch her show and, you know, we're there together, but not really.
04:05And I saw something cross on threads or Twitter and it was Shams and it's like, okay, let's
04:11make sure it's really Shams.
04:12And you click on it and it's like, this is a thousand percent true.
04:16And you look at it and you go, oh my God.
04:18And I think I went, oh, she's like, what's wrong?
04:21And I said, Luke has been traded to the Lakers.
04:23And she said, what does that mean?
04:24What did you just say to me?
04:25He had to qualify it with a tweet.
04:28He had to qualify it by saying, this is real.
04:31This is a thousand percent real.
04:33The first one I own, the reason I double got got is you open it up to see if it's real.
04:39And for whatever reason, I don't know how Twitter aggregates who gets to be at the top
04:43of your feed.
04:44The first one I saw, and you'll know this name or most of our listeners won't, Dan Wojcik.
04:49Oh yeah.
04:51Dan has been covering those two teams in LA forever, for as long as I can remember.
04:57So super legit, but Dan, as Dan would want to be, has not paid for his blue check mark.
05:04And so I'm looking at it and I'm going, I trust Dan, but I don't trust that that's actually
05:10Dan.
05:11And I don't trust that Dan didn't get hacked.
05:14So my first thought was, my guy downstairs doesn't realize that Dan Wojcik got hacked.
05:21And so that's why he thinks that Luke is a Laker.
05:23Poor guy, doesn't know how social media works.
05:26I'll go teach him a lesson.
05:28And then you scroll and it's everybody, everybody.
05:33I still don't fully understand what the hell happened.
05:37Well let's jump into the Warriors because there's a bunch of news about the Warriors.
05:43Probably the most intriguing is Mark Stein and Jake Fisher of the Stein line, a sub-stack.
05:49It says the Warriors have this dream scenario concocted where they're going to somehow find
05:54a way to get Kevin Durant and then eventually LeBron James.
05:58I don't know what the timing would be, but like Mark Stein ain't no joke.
06:02Oh God no.
06:03You know?
06:04And so...
06:05Did you all catch what Slater just dropped within the hour?
06:07Yeah.
06:08Yes.
06:09Okay.
06:10Why don't you repeat it?
06:11I'm going to paraphrase it without any quotes, but there were two things that popped.
06:15One of them was Slater said when Wynne Horse put out that thing about Butler, no more talks
06:22about Butler because he doesn't want to sign an extension with the Warriors.
06:27Slater pointed to, I think at the end of that was for now.
06:30So Slater was like, the Butler thing's not done yet.
06:34That's not done.
06:35The Warriors are not 100% out on Butler.
06:38What I found to be even more interesting though was this blow by blow of what Friday
06:42night looked like at Chase Center, which was that Joe Lacob had plopped down right next
06:48to him in the seat next to him, Kevin Durant's longtime agent.
06:52Is that Kleiman?
06:53Rich Kleiman.
06:54Rich Kleiman, yeah.
06:55And that they went to the Bridge Club at halftime and that they went to the Bridge Club after
07:00the game and that Bob Myers, who originally brokered the acquisition of Kevin Durant and
07:05was in town to call the game, also then joined them after the game inside the Bridge Club.
07:11So I haven't even gotten all the way through everything he wrote, but it really lays out
07:15a scenario that I think legitimizes the idea that these conversations are happening, have
07:22been happening.
07:23Yeah.
07:24Well, they better be happening.
07:25And, you know, you and I talked about it in the green room, Mark, about what has changed
07:29in the past, you know, 48 or 72 hours, because now it's not only should they go big game
07:35hunting, but you better be big game hunting because, you know, Dallas and Sacramento and
07:40San Antonio and the Lakers and they're all swapping All-Stars and that that's basically
07:44what's going on now.
07:45So if the other report is true, and I think it was, was it Windhorst or talking about
07:53how they're, they're, they're calling on every All-Star, I'm getting confused by all the
07:58different reports that are coming out, but if they're calling on every All-Star out there,
08:03you can start checking off who is like hanging up on them.
08:07Hey, is Gilgis Alexandre, can we get a picture with me?
08:11So they're getting hung up on a lot.
08:13And so you can start to narrow down like who might be available.
08:17And KD is among that.
08:18Well, you guys mentioned it earlier about like the now and later, shout out the candy
08:23aspect of a Steph LeBron KD reunion.
08:26If you could do KD now and get LeBron later for like in the summer for next year, that
08:32would be an unbelievable, like last dance kind of feel.
08:35I do want to point out though, let's be careful with the who might be available because someone
08:40might be available that there's no chances available because that's what just happened.
08:45Yes, but like it was not available, just not available.
08:48And you wouldn't think, I mean, you based on the way you've collapsed yesterday, maybe
08:54Giannis is now available ruled out tonight, right?
08:58And that's a game that, I mean, I was watching it, but they stink.
09:01Their record is not very good.
09:03I don't know what Milwaukee is thinking.
09:05I don't know.
09:06I tell you what the problem is.
09:07The problem is me.
09:08I can't coach this team to two for my mock rivers, but I missed the goo.
09:12I don't, I don't know.
09:13I'll be back tomorrow.
09:14I just, I don't know who's available.
09:16It appears that more people are available than I thought were.
09:18I think that there's a small number of guys who aren't available.
09:21And I would say that when Benyama and Gilgis Alexander would be among the short list of
09:25guys who are truly, truly not available, but it's just probably another good guy.
09:30Yeah.
09:31Guys on the best.
09:32Like, you know, you're not getting Mitchell Tatum Brown.
09:37But the list is shorter today than it was last Thursday.
09:40It also means someone like Zion might be back in the fold.
09:43I don't know.
09:44I mean, for sure.
09:45But yeah.
09:46Yeah.
09:47I mean, Katie and LeBron, he's right.
09:49Like the key word is dream, but that dream appears to be certainly more of a reality
09:55than it did last trade deadline when they called about LeBron and he apparently nixed
10:00the deal.
10:01So I don't think we can rule anything out.
10:04The, I mean, the bigger thing is that you're probably gonna have to wait till the fifth
10:07just because that's when Schroeder's deal becomes available to trade.
10:10That's fine.
10:11So at this point we are talking about all the, just the different possibilities until
10:14then.
10:15Yeah.
10:16That's only 40 hours away.
10:17That's like, I do want to like warrior fans, the deadline's not here yet.
10:22You want to, you want to like unload on the organization for malpractice.
10:27Just wait till Thursday afternoon.
10:29Don't do it yet.
10:30Don't do it yet.
10:31Just because they weren't first to the party.
10:32I mean, there's a chance that the Warriors did have action with Levine, but it involved
10:38Schroeder and if it involved Schroeder, it couldn't have been done till Wednesday.
10:43And the Fox thing happened in a hurry and the Bulls said, you know what, we're going
10:47to take it.
10:48Maybe.
10:49Go ahead.
10:50Yeah.
10:51I'm just interested kind of in the Bucs a little bit.
10:52They're, they're 26 and they're kind of the opposite of the Warriors a little.
10:55They're 26 and 21.
10:57They did start out two and eight.
10:59So they're 24 and 13, right?
11:02So you know, you could say they're still like a 50 win team, but does that, is that enough
11:08there?
11:09Did you watch them last night?
11:10No, I didn't.
11:11I watched the whole game.
11:12I know they're not.
11:13They're lifeless.
11:14Yeah.
11:15They're absolutely lifeless.
11:16The John Morant-less Memphis Grizzlies went into Milwaukee and, and just scored whenever
11:22and whatever they wanted.
11:24Late in the game.
11:25I mean, Milwaukee was up 12 and I put baby girl in the bath and we're splashing around
11:29and I go back in the bedroom to watch and Milwaukee's down eight.
11:32They're lifeless.
11:33Like how the hell did that happen?
11:34Like I've never seen Giannis and Dame Lillard, players like this pop off the screen less.
11:40They're just.
11:41I mean, they're both out tomorrow against Okasian, but they're lifeless, man.
11:46I don't get it.
11:47It's not, it's not working well.
11:50And I'll just, I'll say it cause uh, you know, nobody else will in this market, but uh, Damian
11:55Lillard does not play winning basketball.
11:58He's like Jordan pool plus.
12:00It's funny you say that cause Jordan pool plus plus he is, he's not quite empty calories,
12:06but he is, he's six pieces of pizza and a tummy ache is what he is.
12:11I mean, they just won six of seven before this.
12:14I don't know.
12:15Like I just, I mean, what's he ever won Lillard?
12:18Yeah.
12:19He dragged C.G.
12:20McCollum to the Western conference finals.
12:21I don't know.
12:22I don't know what he's had an opportunity to do nine years ago.
12:24Don't blow that off.
12:25We, we, we act like Jimmy Butler is got a bronze statue already because of what, who
12:31he dragged late into the playoffs and never won.
12:34They were an eight seat.
12:36So what?
12:37So what?
12:38Might not be what he used to be, but he's pretty damn good.
12:41Great player.
12:42Who?
12:43Damian Lillard.
12:44Yeah.
12:45He's actually, his numbers are pretty good this year, which surprised me.
12:47I would have thought opposite, but you're listening to 95 seven, the game KGM, ZFM and
12:52HD one San Francisco, always live on the free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube powered by
12:57first NorCal credit union.
12:59Let's quick talk about, um, you know, they look, they're linked.
13:03The warriors have been linked to every big name in some way.
13:07Thursday's the deadline.
13:10What do you, first of all, what do you think the odds are that they make a move in this
13:14area, which would be a big one as opposed to not making a move.
13:18And if they do or don't, what's the reaction going to be?
13:21Well, I think the odds are very high because of what your second question is.
13:25I think that now it becomes not just basketball, but there's some PR involved.
13:30Um, that's kind of what changed for me over the weekend is the realization that half this
13:34fan base was worried about coming in the future.
13:38Um, those people have all gone away in 24 hours.
13:43Nobody gives a rip about the future anymore.
13:45Everyone is demanding that the warriors get in on that action right now.
13:48I don't, I've not heard one person say, you know, the dynasty's over.
13:52We should probably just like not even play the like wire, but everybody wants in on the
13:57action.
13:58I think the warriors know that I don't necessarily know exactly what deals are going to present
14:03themselves perfectly for the warriors.
14:06But after this much talk, if they do nothing, you're going to be dealing with a livid fan
14:12base.
14:13I agree.
14:14And I would not want to be Mike Dunleavy having to come do his press conference after the
14:18trading deadline and say, well, listen, we moved Kavon Looney to get under the luxury
14:24tax, which is going to give us more flexibility this off season.
14:28He'd be right.
14:29And nobody's going to want to hear it.
14:31Nope.
14:32The fan base would rather have him be aggressive and wrong than passive and right is that's
14:37where the fans are now.
14:38I think on this day, as opposed to last week, where, you know, and I heard you and Mark,
14:42Mark and Mark talking about Cam Johnson.
14:44It's a good, sensible move and it's an incremental and it's this and that, and I love it.
14:49I love it.
14:50But honestly, the fan base today, if that was the move or if it was a Vucevich move
14:56would be like big deal.
14:58Meanwhile, you have your Western conference rivals out here throwing haymakers and you're
15:03trying to snap a little, a little safe jab.
15:05Do you know what's interesting about that?
15:07This is, it's obviously really placating the drama side of the NBA.
15:14I don't think anything happened over the weekend that changes the race for the trophy at all.
15:18Nothing.
15:19For the trophy?
15:20No.
15:21Absolutely nothing.
15:22I think the Lakers got worse.
15:23Oh, I disagree.
15:24The Lakers absolutely got better.
15:25No.
15:27They got better as a franchise.
15:29I thought they got better this year.
15:30Oh my God.
15:31I mean, you now have two offensive weapons when, and now you've got, you've got a healthy
15:35Luka because now he wants to play again and maybe he'll put down the, he'll put down the,
15:41the darts and, you know, put down the beers, but he's going to play now that he's in a
15:45place that he wants to play.
15:47No, he's not playing now.
15:48He's not playing this week.
15:49Well, he'll play in about a week.
15:50Yeah.
15:51He's going to be back.
15:52So he's going to play now.
15:53Yeah.
15:54Right.
15:55So what I'm saying is if you want to match this team now, I get that how, how wonderful
15:59Luka is and I would have made the deal too and all of that.
16:02But if you think the Lakers are now suddenly going to do something to the Thunder or the
16:06Nuggets?
16:07No.
16:08No, but three teams that were already better than the Warriors are still better and they
16:11might be, I think the Lakers got better personally.
16:14I don't know.
16:15I think there's a chance both teams could be better in the, in the short term.
16:19I don't know who they're stopping.
16:20I don't know who they're stopping.
16:22I actually think Dallas has a player.
16:24Dallas might've gotten better this year.
16:25Maybe.
16:26I mean, hell, they've played more than half the season without Luka.
16:28Right.
16:29And I mean, Max Christie's not a bad player at all.
16:33No.
16:34And they got two really good defensive players.
16:37Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, they got Lively.
16:42They still have action.
16:43I don't know how much action, but I don't think they're going to fall off the map.
16:47You forgot about Klay.
16:48Don't forget about Klay.
16:49Well, and you forgot about the Spurs.
16:50Like, they're two games back in the Warriors.
16:52I think that's, that's the team that would scare me as far as, like, you're not playing
16:57with all due respect.
16:58The Warriors aren't playing for a championship this year.
17:00So you're playing for the play-in or bottom half of the, of the eight.
17:05The Spurs are now a team that you have to contend with.
17:08And whether you think the Lakers are going to fall off or Mavericks are going to get
17:11better, it's like, I think if they don't make a big move by Thursday, they have to be okay
17:15with the possibility that they're not even a play-in team.
17:18It's fascinating though, because I, like, I always feel like whenever these moves happen,
17:23and this is for all the teams involved that we're talking about, it takes a minute.
17:26It does.
17:27I remember when the, when Luka got Kyrie and, and I got into it with, with, with so many
17:32people about, oh, no one's ever going to stop them on any possession ever again.
17:37And I'm like, it's going to take a minute.
17:39They're going to, they're going to have to figure each other out and all this.
17:42And what they end up doing at the end of that year, literally tanking themselves out of
17:46the playoffs entirely.
17:47Then they went to the finals the next year, but De'Aaron and Victor, for example, E, let's,
17:53let's see.
17:54Take a little time.
17:55Those guys are healthy.
17:56Like when they traded for Kyrie, I don't think he was healthy.
17:57But I just think all players, that's just my, that's kind of my take on it.
18:01Like Schroeder.
18:02AD, Kyrie, Schroeder.
18:03It's taken two months for him to actually try to start to fit in.
18:05You know, LeBron and Luka, I don't know, like, we'll see.
18:09I don't know if that's just snap your fingers, amaze balls right away.
18:12Well, I don't know how fast it'll take, but I, I think the Spurs are big.
18:16They're a problem in the future.
18:18Like a really big problem because if, if they didn't give up, they actually made by far
18:26the best trade so far, because they didn't really give, give up much.
18:31But also the idea, like, I don't think De'Aaron Fox, De'Aaron Fox is a bad guy at all.
18:36I think, you know, he just wasn't crazy about sack.
18:38He gets to San Antonio and starts getting coached by those guys in Wembley.
18:44That could be a problem.
18:45This to me is like the big underlying part of all of this is the idea of culture.
18:50And you heard Dallas talk a lot about culture and the GM Niko said, you know, I'm not going
18:55to speak bad about any player, but the guys we brought in are going to add to our culture.
19:01And you know, Luka was a guy who didn't necessarily add to the culture.
19:05And you guys had Steve Kerr on this week and the idea was talent versus culture.
19:10And the Warriors are thinking, forget culture.
19:12We want talent.
19:13It's because your culture is already good in San Antonio.
19:16It's the same thing.
19:17Your culture is elite.
19:19And so you're looking more about talent than culture.
19:21And Miami, you look at Jimmy Butler and he's not a part of their culture.
19:25So they want him out.
19:27And yeah, they want talent back.
19:29But I think that they're more like what Dallas is thinking, where we want culture.
19:33Yeah, I think culture is something they believe can get them over the hump.
19:37Like they already had talent.
19:38They tried that.
19:39And so this is the alternative.
19:40Meanwhile, for the Warriors, I think talent is kind of what they're resigned to because
19:44the culture isn't good enough anymore.
19:46And so just the culture.
19:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:48Just the culture.
19:49Like, I don't think this team has a problem with one another.
19:51Like, I think the locker room is pretty good.
19:53I think people have good relationships.
19:55There's not anything behind the scenes that we don't know about that would blow this thing
19:59up.
20:00But it's clearly not making that big of a difference, whereas in Dallas, they obviously
20:05saw something that they didn't like that was eventually going to come to a head, whether
20:08it was this year or maybe next year when his contract is up.
20:12And so they just decided to get out ahead of it.
20:15I thought of Guru when I saw the deal for Luca and AD.
20:24And this is kind of along the lines of what you just said.
20:27We don't know what we don't know with regard to that relationship.
20:30The Mavs and Luca, whether it's his weight, his drinking, if they're projecting that by
20:35age 30, he's actually going to be like 34.
20:39Who knows?
20:40We can all speculate on that.
20:44But because they moved in the dark and made this deal when no one saw it coming, I will
20:48forever not understand how they didn't get more than one first-round draft pick.
20:53Mikael Bridges got four or five of these eight months ago.
20:59And so the reason I thought of Guru is like when we talked to him about his Chiefs bet.
21:03And I was like, and now the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl this weekend.
21:05So he might be right.
21:07But remember what we said to him that day?
21:08You might be right.
21:09The Chiefs might win the Super Bowl, but you should get more than a drink for that.
21:13You should get three and a half drinks.
21:15So that, like the Mavs, that's what they just did.
21:19If you want to move him, move him.
21:21But one pick four years from now?
21:25I don't understand that.
21:26I think that when those two guys were talking, and then whichever, Donchik.
21:35I think that Nico Harrison at that point thought, okay, if we're thinking about trading
21:40Luka, who do we, like who would we want?
21:44And this is another part of it.
21:46Miami had been clearing cap space for Luka.
21:49And there's a report out there that Dallas may have known he was going to either Miami
21:54or the Lakers in two years.
21:56So those were the only two teams they dealt with.
22:00So, I mean, what I'm getting at is they didn't want a bidding war.
22:06And you know, the other thing they avoided was, you know, three days of Donchik available
22:13and everybody going nuts.
22:15It lowers the value.
22:16Look what Sacramento just had to get for Fox.
22:18It also, you know, makes people a little more introspective and I think a little less aggressive.
22:25And these two guys were willing to say, let's just do it.
22:28We'll know about it.
22:30And then we'll deal with the fallout.
22:31And if you have that as your scenario, the two teams and your Dallas, would you rather
22:35have Jimmy Butler or Anthony Davis?
22:37Anthony Davis.
22:38To me, it's not even close.
22:39Anthony Davis.
22:40He's younger and he's a much better culture fit.
22:42And that's why I think about the Warriors and Jimmy Butler.
22:45And we can do the dance of they're still maybe in on him, they're out on him and all the
22:49rest of it.
22:50And Nick Friedel coming in here at 315 to hash a lot of this out with us again.
22:54Sweet.
22:55I'd love to see him.
22:56But for me, that is a bad culture fit for the Warriors.
23:00And so, you know, if you are Dallas and you have your choice, maybe in that scenario,
23:05of course, it's Anthony Davis.
23:06Yeah.
23:07And I'm starting to think this is kind of just the start.
23:10I think we're going to see a bunch of moves in the next three or four days.
23:12All right.
23:13Nick Friedel at three o'clock.
23:14Guys, have a great show.
23:15Keep it locked to 95.7 The Game.
