00:22at Chase on Friday, and then two tickets to All-Star practice on Saturday in Oakland.
00:28That's coming up in the next 20 minutes.
00:31When you hear this sound, Jimmy Pockets, be the fifth caller to the contest line.
00:41You're going to the Friday Rising Stars and Saturday practice.
00:44What's up, gentlemen?
00:45Hello.
00:46Stiney.
00:47How are you?
00:48How are you doing?
00:49I'm doing well.
00:50Yeah.
00:51Pretty good.
00:52Good.
00:53It's wonderful.
00:54You've been good today.
00:55Yeah.
00:56You know I will crack on you when you're not good.
00:58No.
00:59Okay.
01:00Most days.
01:01Come on.
01:02Is that new?
01:03Did you not hear the last 10 minutes when he said out of all the hosts, he's the least
01:06high maintenance of us all?
01:08I'd like to fill out the chair the boss got on the mic about six minutes.
01:13I'm in the boss's office less than anybody on staff.
01:15That wasn't.
01:16You said high maintenance.
01:17You said you're the least.
01:18Untrue.
01:19Untrue.
01:20Fitz was talking about Wiggins and how, I've never heard this.
01:22What, low maintenance?
01:23He was no maintenance.
01:24I gotta, I gotta wonder if at this hour it's not Spadoni, like he's been a host for eight
01:28days.
01:29And I omitted him.
01:30Yeah.
01:31Perfectly.
01:32Okay.
01:33Okay.
01:34But it's still not you, partner.
01:35And I'll let you down.
01:36He more maintenance.
01:37Tell him the truth, Willard.
01:38He's more maintenance for you because you're the only one who's got to talk to him all
01:40the time.
01:41I deserve hazard pay.
01:42Please.
01:43But I'm just saying, ask the boss.
01:44Put your finger down.
01:45Ask the boss.
01:46Get that finger down.
01:47No, no, no.
01:48Look at this.
01:49You don't scare me.
01:50What?
01:52I started this with a compliment to you and you know, you were good today.
01:57And Mark said, he's always good.
01:59And that's when I laid out, cause that's a bold face lie.
02:03And every show you do.
02:05He's usually good.
02:06Who's that man?
02:07What are we talking about here?
02:08Every Superbowl, there are 59 Superbowls and you can rank them like on enjoyability.
02:13And you can look at this one and say, it was probably number 52 or number 53.
02:18And that's okay.
02:19You can keep it real.
02:20My point was, you've been great today talking about Jimmy Butler and what he means to not
02:28only Steph, but everyone else and, you know, getting to the foul line and, you know, making
02:33this team look a little bit different than what they've been while also tempering the
02:38enthusiasm of Daryl, the guru Johnson, who's already thinking about his parade outfit.
02:43No, see that hurts.
02:44And we had a conversation, so I would share my thoughts, but it worked.
02:48But Willard, I'm going to shock you.
02:50I'm not there yet.
02:51I just like what I see.
02:52I am very excited.
02:54Steph Kerr's back smiling.
02:56What do you say?
02:57This is the easiest.
02:58The basketball is getting easier and that's what it looks like.
03:03It does get easier against those two teams that they played against.
03:06You didn't say that for four hours.
03:08Now they walk in.
03:09They're both fair.
03:10I wish they were in Oklahoma City tomorrow night.
03:13I really do.
03:14Really?
03:15Yeah, I do.
03:16Because when you love to really get a measuring stick.
03:19I want Kaminga back when they get that task.
03:21I wish they'd play Dallas at full strength.
03:24Or Milwaukee.
03:25That's all.
03:26But whatever.
03:27Wait a schedule break.
03:28No, I mean, right.
03:29And it's a good thing.
03:30They should.
03:31They should win.
03:32They should win.
03:33Dallas' defense.
03:34You saw it last night.
03:35They got a lot of injuries.
03:36They won that game four times.
03:37They did.
03:38I thought Klay was the hero.
03:39I know.
03:40I was happy for him.
03:41I don't even know how they get that opportunity because I'll be, and for those of you who
03:49don't know.
03:50So the Kings and Mavs went into overtime and this game was going back forth, back forth
03:54down the stretch.
03:55And in the overtime period, and it was not on TV here and I don't have league pass and
03:59I was walking the dog.
04:00So I got the game cast open and the Mavs are down four with 20 seconds to go.
04:06That means you're dead.
04:08You're dead.
04:09And then the Mavs go get their easy two.
04:11So they're down two.
04:12Yeah.
04:13And then that's normally when you would have to foul because there's about 11 seconds left.
04:17And then the game cast says Malik Monk drives and misses a layup.
04:20Why is he even shooting the ball?
04:22And you're right.
04:23And then the next thing you know, Klay hits a dagger three and the Mavs are going to win
04:27until they let the Kings go back to the other end and score.
04:29They had your boy DeMar DeRozan trapped and like an elevator door closed and he just slipped
04:35through it.
04:36Yeah.
04:37Off of one leg.
04:38Game winner.
04:39And that's always risky when you want to like put your leg through it and hope that the
04:42sensor catches it because if it doesn't catch it, you lose your foot.
04:47So it depends on how bad you want it.
04:49The elevator.
04:50Anyway.
04:51Anyway, the Warriors should win tomorrow night.
04:52The Mavs can't stop anyone from scoring.
04:54They should win.
04:55And that Thursday when they win at Houston, they owe them one.
04:58That one's going to be tough.
04:59Back to back.
05:00Three games in four nights.
05:01Houston is struggling a little bit, but yeah, that's kind of what I mean.
05:05Like if, look, if they win tomorrow night, they win Thursday night, go into the break
05:09having won four in a row on the road.
05:12I think then you can start peacocking a little bit about this trade.
05:16Because Dibbs is my barometer.
05:19You can already be excited, but I thought both your statements are fair.
05:24You're excited about what you see.
05:25And yes, they've played six good quarters and they were in Chicago and against the Giannis
05:30Lisboa Bucs.
05:31I'll give you that.
05:32That's fair too.
05:33Through eight quarters.
05:34Tell me if I'm off.
05:36There could have been Durant, Levine.
05:38Who else were we in on?
05:41Paul George in marketing.
05:44It just seems like the basketball gods have bestowed on us a guy whose game is opposite
05:49of all the other three to the point to where I think it's really helping.
05:54And I, if I say this one more time, I'm a retired today.
05:57Diversify your portfolio.
05:58The fact that he does a lot of his stuff in the paint will, it just opens up other.
06:03What did Curry say?
06:04I dominate outside.
06:05He dominates inside.
06:06If you could undo the Butler trade and have any of those other names that you would, yeah,
06:13I would too.
06:14How about you?
06:15I mean, no, I'd say with Butler right now, I mean, it's a small, what Butler is doing
06:23and you know, we're watching the game right now in the studio.
06:26The replay from last night, what he brings is an edge.
06:30It's a toughness.
06:31It's a free throw.
06:32And I heard you guys play the Steph sound earlier and maybe that's why I was so enamored
06:37with your performance today, Stiney, because you set up sound really well.
06:40And Steph talking about what that does for you in terms of like, you can set your defense
06:47and you can have a conversation.
06:49You don't have to use a timeout because you get to the foul line and Jimmy's going to
06:53make them.
06:54And now you set your D and you talk about what you're doing and it's a natural kind
06:58of a reset.
06:59You get to breathe.
07:00You get to breathe, but you get to breathe with you on the line, not them on the line.
07:06And that to me is a big part of it because, you know, Jimmy Butler, he will get to the
07:11line and also the way he plays, he plays with that force that you don't have without him.
07:1513 to 45 from deep.
07:17They usually lose that game, right?
07:19But 28 free throw attempts in two games for one player.
07:23First time since Durant in 18.
07:24That's a huge deal.
07:25And there's no like, that's not something I really thought of last week, but that's
07:29it.
07:30And it's not a headline grabber.
07:31Oh, he goes to the free throw line.
07:33Like it's boring.
07:34Well, we hated Harden for that.
07:35You have to have it.
07:36I mean, we remember, and we'll play it for you here in a little bit.
07:39It was like two and a half weeks ago, three weeks ago, where Steve Kerr is like, we don't
07:44do layups and free throws on this team.
07:46And we all looked at each other and went, well, then you lose.
07:48If the other team gets layups and free throws and you get a contested three, you lose.
07:54And Jimmy Butler has walked in and that's what he does.
07:57Layups and free throws.
07:59And lo and behold, the Warriors have a bad shooting night from three and still score
08:02a buck 25.
08:0317 more field goal attempts, Donnie.
08:05Yeah, I mean, like when I think of Paul George, Markin and Levine, Durant, Butler, I didn't
08:13really want any of them, to tell you the truth, because they're all, the older guys are the
08:17older guys.
08:18But I don't see how any of those guys could have come in and been as much of a factor
08:23as Butler's been the first two games.
08:25There's got to be a bad side to Jimmy Butler.
08:27I don't, I don't know what it is.
08:29Like, what does he look like when he, if that's not a good game last night?
08:34Then he's going to be a hell of a player for him because he still helped you, even though
08:38he was four for 12 from the field.
08:39Well, the honeymoon is almost always good with Jimmy, right?
08:42Oh yeah.
08:43Right?
08:44Remember, Oum Young-Mosaic was the one who came on with us.
08:45It was like, if you look at history, when Jimmy arrives in these places, he goes very
08:50well.
08:51But six years was a stretch in my mind.
08:53Yeah.
08:54And maybe, look, maybe only asking for two and a half years, maybe most of that is honeymoon.
08:58I don't know.
09:00I certainly don't think you're going to get any, like, sideways locker room stuff this
09:05season.
09:06That would be, that would be.
09:07You just got new paper.
09:08That would be terrible.
09:09You got new money.
09:10Right.
09:11Yeah.
09:12If that happens between now and April, like, my God.
09:13Yeah.
09:14And it's a good locker room, right?
09:15It's Steph Curry's locker room.
09:17It's Steve Kerr's locker room.
09:18I know everyone worries about Draymond, but he's been on pretty good behavior this year.
09:22But why do I feel like some of his, if this is no shade at Draymond, there's just been
09:28a natural.
09:30Some of his delegation duties have gone over to Butler because he's such an alpha male
09:34like Draymond.
09:35I don't know.
09:36I just feel like there's more than just one now, you know, and it's like, and that's a
09:40good thing.
09:41And I exactly.
09:42I think about the past when they won and you had David West, who, I mean, David West was
09:46no dream.
09:47I was not going to go up to David West and say, here's what we need to do, D. No, that
09:52wasn't going to happen.
09:53And Iguodala, a guy who was a veteran, you know, another thing that you said, Stiney,
09:57and I hate to just continue to praise you, but you talked about those warrior teams and
10:02their length and why they were successful.
10:04And you know, you had KD long, Sean Livingston, you didn't mention, but I know you thought
10:10about it.
10:11A long player, Iguodala, same thing.
10:13And Jimmy Butler may only be six, seven.
10:16He's listed at, but he plays bigger.
10:19Draymond plays bigger and you've got a stretch five and Quinton Post who doesn't play bigger,
10:24but at least he like knocks down the three.
10:26So I do think with Jimmy Butler, you've added a player who plays bigger than his frame and
10:32it gives you a little bit more of that, of that swagger.
10:34Well, I love that word and the thing that I'm interested, well, I'm not interested,
10:40but you're fascinated.
10:41No, I mean, look, I'm interested to see how Draymond Green deals with a player who's as
10:47tough as him, but is better than him.
10:50Like Draymond finally has somebody who could say to him, like, who are you almost?
10:58Now I know Butler doesn't have rings, but this is the first player I think that's been
11:03better than Draymond Green.
11:05Who's every bit as tough as him.
11:08And let's see how is that?
11:09I think Dray knows it.
11:11There's no doubt.
11:12We all do.
11:13Jimmy Butler's not the kind of guy that Draymond has historically quote unquote gone.
11:18And I like that.
11:20I don't think that's going to pop.
11:21I know nobody tends to think about this with Draymond, but I think he's got more self-awareness
11:27at this stage of his career than we give him credit for.
11:30If you look at his, I'm watching the screen behind you and I'm looking at him getting
11:35a tea last night outside.
11:36That's not what I'm talking about.
11:37You can get a tea.
11:44I'm not worried about how, like he talks to referees.
11:47I'm talking about his standing in the NBA community.
11:51This is someone who knew damn well all along.
11:55There have been multiple times in his career where he reportedly had other offers and maybe
12:00even for more money to go elsewhere and he didn't go.
12:03Why?
12:04Because he knows he's not going to be Draymond Green on another team.
12:09And look at the way he handles himself in media.
12:13Why is he doing so much media?
12:15He is well aware that the clock is ticking.
12:18There's not a whole lot of Draymond Green, the basketball player left as far as branding.
12:23I mean, I think that that's why it gets ramped up every year from his podcast to his appearances
12:28on TNT or what have you.
12:30I just think that Draymond projects a certain thing, but that does not mean he's not aware
12:36of age and ability and health and all of those things.
12:41So will he step aside for a player who's clearly more talented?
12:46He's done it with Steph Curry his whole life.
12:49Why not Jimmy?
12:50You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM in HD1 San Francisco.
12:55Always live on the free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube powered by First NorCal Credit

13:01Jimmy Buckets!
13:02All right, now's your chance to win a pair of tickets to both the NBA Rising Stars game
13:07at Chase on Friday and the All-Star Practice in Oakland on Saturday.
13:13Call the contest line at 415-523-4652, caller number 6.
13:19Gets two tickets to each of those events.
13:22And to get in on all the NBA All-Star action in the Bay Area, head to NBAEvents.com or
13:28the NBA Events app and purchase tickets for fan events like the NBA Crossover, Rising
13:34Stars, NBA All-Star Practice, and the NBA HBCU Classic.
13:39Mm-hmm.
13:40Doesn't feel like the All-Star game's right around the corner.
13:46And it's in our backyard.
13:47Yeah, it doesn't feel like it's here.
13:48You guys walked up.
13:49You feel me?
13:50We will tomorrow, because we're out there tomorrow.
13:51In the financial district?
13:53No, I don't.
13:54I do not feel it in the financial district right now.
13:57Dibs, you see any All-Star stuff going on out there?
14:00No, and I do think there are a lot of things at play here.
14:04First and foremost, the format is not one that I think fans even know about or are latching
14:10on to.
14:11And then you get to the Slam Dunk Contest, and I should save this for Friday, but I don't
14:14want to because I want the All-Star game to be a success.
14:18But your two-time defending champion or your two-time champ in the Slam Dunk is a guy who's
14:25only played in, I believe, four games in the association.
14:30Mack McClung?
14:31It's embarrassing.
14:32I'll say it.
14:34He's not an NBA player, yet he's won your contest twice, and if you want to look at
14:38his basketball reference, I think he's made more dunks in the contest than he's made shots
14:44in the actual association.
14:45Oh, I'm sure.
14:46So, I mean, there's that.
14:47It's nothing against him.
14:48And then you've got the best three-point shooter ever, who is too busy, and I get it, you know,
14:54he's a busy man, and he's got a lot going on, but he's done it, and he's done everything
14:59that they've asked him to do, but the game is in your town, and you're not doing the
15:03three-point shootout.
15:05And apologies to Moses Moody and Draymond Green in the skills contest, but, I mean,
15:11I don't know.
15:12So, as far as the all-star game, like, all of the sizzle around it, there's not a lot
15:18of sizzle, dude, and I love the event, and I love Joe Lakeup and Chase Sander and the
15:23whole thing, but when you talk about, like, you want to walk out right now onto Kearney
15:28Street and just yell, Mac McClung!
15:31Mac McClung!
15:33Will, he's got a point, though.
15:36That's why I'm mad at LeBron.
15:38The only blemish I could come down his road for, Kobe did it, Mike did it, you owe the
15:42league that, Bird did it, but to not do it in our hometown, I didn't...
15:48Apparently, McClung is not the only non-NBA player to participate in one of these events.
15:56I just got a text from the great R.C. Davis, he says Craig Hodges wasn't in the NBA, and
16:04he went to the three-point shooting contest.
16:06Wow.
16:07Craig Hodges.
16:08Thank you, I was waiting for that.
16:09Because he got blacked out, essentially.
16:10Yeah, I remember.
16:11It was BS.
16:12So...
16:13Yeah, I mean, we're in a time where, like, you talked about what players owe the league,
16:20quote-unquote.
16:21And I mean it.
16:22I know you mean it, but I don't think the players agree with you.
16:25The players are in a spot where, you know, you have load management, and guaranteed contracts,
16:30and I don't think that any player feels like they, quote-unquote, owe anything to the league,
16:35and yet, you know, we have this thing, and it's gonna be fun, the rising stars, and the
16:39four-team tournament, and all the rest of it.
16:41I'm excited for it, but it's not like it used to be, where the all-star game was a thing.
16:46The day stopped.
16:47Yeah.
16:48The day stopped.
16:49I looked it up.
16:50Tom Chambers.
16:51How many field goal attempts Mac McClung has in his NBA career?
16:54Yeah.
16:55Okay, think it is.
16:56You gotta go around.
16:57Attempts?
16:58Field goal attempts.
16:59This is a tally.
17:00NBA career.
17:0111.
17:02Okay.
17:0311.
17:04Alright.
17:0511?
17:068?
17:0723.
17:08Oh!
17:09Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to our champion for All-Star Weekend.
17:11He goes by the name Goo Roo.
17:1326!
17:14Let's go!
17:15He had 20 of them in one, or 17 of them in one game.
17:19I always win with no prize.
17:22That's why he's never been in the league again.
17:25How many games has he played?
17:27Six?
17:28No, because I mean, you were looking at his basketball reference.
17:31I figured.
17:32Five.
17:33He's played in five games.
17:34So he'll be now in his third contest, and he's played in five games.
17:38I mean, not to borrow from you, but NBA, what are you doing?
17:42This is Saturday night.
17:44The world's watching, and it's not McClung, it's supposed to be Zion, it's supposed to
17:49be Ja.
17:50LeBron.
17:51The question is this, so last year you had an embarrassing All-Star game, Adam Silver
17:58I saw publicly stated today, all of the players were not happy with the product that they
18:04put out there for America, right?
18:06And the world, if you will.
18:07Steph Curry's not happy with it.
18:08So they knew they had to make a change.
18:10I don't know if this is it.
18:12He insinuated today that we may get USA versus the world at some point.
18:17I think that that's an interesting idea.
18:20This feels a little confusing, but maybe it won't be that when we see it.
18:24Four different pods, if you will.
18:25Not Pajemskis, but pods within the All-Star game.
18:29I don't know what it is, but they know it needed a change.
18:32My question, my follow-up to Adam would have been like, why don't you know that it's time
18:37to change the dunk contest?
18:39Or do away with it?
18:40Wow, man.
18:41That's a big boy though.
18:43They've watched it erode.
18:45Totally.
18:46Totally.
18:47You go from the poster that was on every boy's wall, Michael Jordan flying from the free
18:54throw line.
18:55He got it.
18:56You go from that.
18:57Our generation grew up with that as teenagers.
19:01And my sons now as teenagers are looking at Mack McClung go against I don't know who.
19:08That's not right, man.
19:09Like, why are we even having this?
19:11And you got the stars coming out in the league.
19:13Their peers watching.
19:14Oh, he ain't in the league.
19:16Okay.
19:17And think about the last time that we in the Bay Area had the All-Star game.
19:212000, Jay Richards.
19:22Vince Carter.
19:23No, Vince Carter.
19:24Vince Carter goes up, double cuff, and puts his entire arm through the rim.
19:29And it was like, he's a star, he did the contest, and he did something that we still talk about
19:3425 years later.
19:35By the way, he also beat a bunch of other stars.
19:37Exactly.
19:38There were a bunch of other stars in that contest.
19:40Anyway, so in answer to your question about, you know, I think you said it, Stiney, like,
19:46hey, you know, in the financial district, are we, is there a buzz about the All-Star
19:49game?
19:50No buzz.
19:51No, there's not a lot of line yards out there yet.
19:54Not a lot of line yards.
19:55I'm sure that Thrive City and whatnot are going to be amazing this weekend.
20:00You guys are going to love it tomorrow.
20:01Thursday.
20:02I can't, seriously.
20:03That video of yours, we were at the Timbsley, but I'm showing off your IG like, those are
20:06casino screens.
20:08Yes, they were casino screens, and I got duped because they had not pulled the curtains back
20:15yet on the golf simulators.
20:17So that's not even on my video.
20:19Stiney's going to be in there for an hour and a half.
20:20Can I take my gloves?
20:21Yes.
20:22They'll have something there for you.
20:23You got to get your shows up with a full bag.
20:26Bring your own glove.
20:29But anyway, yeah, like that, you guys are going to be out on the veranda tomorrow.
20:33Yes.
20:34Can I borrow your guys' ear for a minute?
20:36Now, save this for my partner, but I went, we ain't got, how much, we got it fine.
20:40You got two minutes.
20:41You're good.
20:42So listen, no, you don't.
20:43I started the letter to Fox and I dropped the pen.
20:46I fell asleep.
20:48They had the audacity on the Super Bowl, the biggest game, to change the score box.
20:55So when it was second and whatever, third and whatever, Willard, I didn't know where
21:00to look and it disappeared.
21:01I thought something was wrong.
21:03How dare you play with us and not forewarn us before the game, and I went and watched
21:09it again after the Warrior game.
21:12This should be fired.
21:13You don't wait to the Super Bowl for the score box where you normally Fox has and you're
21:19like second and nine, they tried to get cute with it and it was a total fail and nobody's
21:25talking about it.
21:26No, this is a phenomenal observation.
21:28No, it is just, I got nervous before the ball was out.
21:31I think it's, oh, there it is, second and nine.
21:34I don't like it.
21:35Dibs is looking at you like, what are you talking about?
21:37And I literally, I hadn't even, I wish I had thought of this because I kept looking
21:43at the screen and I'm like, and I told the story yesterday, I was a little in and out
21:47on the Super Bowl because one of Christie's daughters had some health stuff over the weekend
21:51and we were just running around.
21:52I was a little in and out of the game.
21:54So I'd like do a flyby of the screen and I'd be like, all I know is that the Eagles were
22:00winning.
22:01I don't know what's going on.
22:02I have no idea.
22:03Is it second down?
22:05Is it third?
22:06Where are they on the field?
22:07So a really good observation.
22:09I don't want to go too deep inside TV, but if you want to go to the history of the Super
22:16Bowl, I believe they've done this a number of different times where the network will
22:20roll out their new graphics package for the game.
22:25And you know, honestly, Goo, if you're really watching the game and you see a guy gain three
22:29yards on first down, you know, it's second and seven, but that's not our job.
22:33The relationship you have with that, come on, dude.
22:36That's not our job.
22:37I'm like, did the TV tube go out?
22:39I'm going to go full Jeff Kent on you and say, watch the game.
22:43Are we going to have callers call in and tell us what topic to use at three o'clock?
22:49Like, it's not our job as the viewer to figure out what the heck.
22:53I'm with you, Goo.
22:54Fix it in the off season.
22:56It was uncanny.
22:57After the first time that you look and you go, huh?
23:00And then you find where it is.
23:02Every time after that, you know where it is.
23:05Another chug of my beverage.
23:07I'm sipping on it.
23:08I got conversations and nachos going on.
23:11I'm not here to read and concentrate.
23:14I'm here to have drinks and have a good time.
23:17It's your job network to let us know what the hell is going on.
23:21I'm marinating food and changing diapers and I could figure it out.
23:24It's just not that difficult, but I get it.
23:27I get it.
23:28I'm with you.
23:29I'm with you.
23:30And not in that order either.
23:32We won't see you tomorrow.
23:33I think I've already got my gripe for Friday.
23:35Oh.
23:36Did it happen just now in this conversation?
23:38No, no, no.
23:39It's been happening the last two days.
23:40Because you've been great today.
23:41Thank you, Gibbs.
23:42You're welcome.
23:43Last time.
23:44Last time.
23:45You're becoming a traditional host.
23:47I've gotten complimented for my work at 95.7, the game.
23:52Okay.
