00:00The Crossover is brought to you by Abundant Life Weight Loss.
00:03They know the secret to losing up to one pound of fat every day.
00:06Go to AbundantLifeWeightLoss.com.
00:08Let's welcome in Dan Dibley, Mark Willard.
00:10It's The Crossover.
00:12Man, that was a great game last night, gents.
00:17Oh boy.
00:18I mean, phenomenal.
00:19And we talked about it in our little Warriors Live, the pregame, and Mark said, you know,
00:24I like Steph over 28 and a half.
00:27Oh, I missed that.
00:28And I said, I like that.
00:30And I said, I like Jimmy Butler over 19 and a half.
00:33And then, I mean, they both were like Ottoman picks and then Draymond with a triple double.
00:38And yeah, you know, the, the others, the Jags, as you would call them, just a guy, they were
00:44like not great.
00:45Moses was fantastic.
00:46They get your B dips.
00:48But late in the game, a little tip in from pods, like pods, you got no business going
00:54to the cup and making that play.
00:56But he does.
00:57He does.
00:58It's a big three.
00:59And next thing you know, you give up a buck 24 and you win.
01:04And I'll say this, and Willard, I'm looking dead right at you.
01:08I told Stani and the listeners, I really mean what I'm about to say.
01:11I'm still on a high from last night.
01:14Don't take Stephen Curry.
01:16He wasn't by himself, but what he's doing at age 37 and the reminder, the Michael Jackson
01:23at Apollo is what is kind of felt Olympic, like, like they needed every one of those
01:28buckets and to come out frisky with the fresh haircut, like that one day is going to come
01:33to an end.
01:34Just don't take it for granted.
01:36I'd like to ask just a wink, wink question.
01:39Is he still a declining player?
01:41Not over here.
01:42I don't mean that.
01:43I'm not trying to come down anyone's road.
01:46No, you are.
01:47I'm really not.
01:48Listen, I mean, go Beyonce to the left, to the left.
01:51I tweeted this last night and I am, and I know it's been said about him a thousand times,
01:57but I'm like, this is not a human being that doesn't, I don't know how to make sense of
02:05this anymore.
02:06That doesn't make any sense.
02:08And it was nice of you dibs to make my pick sound even better than it was.
02:11His number was only 25 and a half covered that thing halfway through the 45 and a half,
02:18whatever it was.
02:19Right.
02:20There's just, there's no way, there's no way at that size, you can do that in that moment
02:28against those people.
02:30I don't get it.
02:31I don't get it.
02:32But is he, is he still, is he still a declining player?
02:36How can you say yes?
02:37Because he's 37.
02:38Right.
02:39That's why.
02:40I mean, yes.
02:42Your point is well taken.
02:44Well taken.
02:45What's that?
02:46The Willers point.
02:47Oh boy.
02:48Oh no.
02:49You know, sometimes people say, well, who does Curry remind you of?
02:57And nobody.
02:58Tom Brady.
02:59Well, one of the answers I had, I've had is he's actually a combination of two players.
03:04Curly Neal and Meadowlark Lemon, that's who he's a combination of.
03:09I'm mad at that.
03:10Yeah.
03:11Well, the half court shot.
03:12Yes.
03:13Like Meadowlark used to throw up the hook.
03:14Yeah.
03:15And how he would make like seven of 10 or whatever it was.
03:17Like he would throw up the hook from half court and it would just go in every time.
03:21So yeah, that's the Steph part.
03:23And then the dribbling, the dribble, dribble, dribble.
03:25It's incredible, man.
03:26It's incredible.
03:27Fundamental.
03:28The only thing you're missing is like the sound effects.
03:30Totally.
03:31I'm glad you brought up Globetrotters though, because he is a traveling circus.
03:37It's incredible.
03:38And it doesn't matter what arena he's in.
03:39The sound that he makes in the crowd when he does something is unique to him.
03:45And he's got the showmanship now, man.
03:48And I say that in the history of, for me, watching sports.
03:51And that's why when you, if we want to actually give an actual answer, who does he remind
03:56you of?
03:57Nobody.
03:58But you didn't like the Brady comp at 40, huh?
03:59I do not like any comp to Steph Curry of any kind.
04:03I've never experienced anything like that in sports with anyone in any sport ever, period.
04:10There's no comp to this.
04:13You can find other greats, but you cannot, in my opinion, find the effect that he has
04:21on an audience.
04:22How far can this go?
04:24Led by a 37-year-old.
04:25Like, I think he could go all the way to Chakra.
04:27Oh, do you mean Warriors?
04:28Yeah, the Warriors.
04:29I mean...
04:30Jimmy Butler has changed something specifically for him.
04:33If it's more than just space, just like he's done for Dre on defense.
04:37They're good.
04:39They're very good.
04:40But...
04:41He was ready.
04:42I mean...
04:43I'm not going to be the Nelly of the group by any stretch, but I'm not mad at somebody
04:48who wakes up today and goes, Steph, Jimmy, and Draymond all went off.
04:55Yeah, oh yeah.
04:57And they're down by two with three minutes to go.
04:58Wow.
04:59Wow.
05:00So...
05:01Yeah.
05:02Right?
05:03Four with 3.38 left.
05:04So are you going to do that every night to win playoffs?
05:05He alluded to that.
05:06Four rounds?
05:07Yeah.
05:08They're good.
05:09They're good.
05:10I texted Evan at 6.07 last night.
05:12So that puts the game late second quarter, right?
05:16Yep.
05:17Yep.
05:18I texted Evan.
05:19Listen.
05:20People have to...
05:21Well, I said, there will never be another Steph Curry.
05:26Certainly never in my lifetime.
05:28There's no way.
05:30It will take generations to comprehend what he's doing.
05:35Thirty years from now, however, they're going to say he was playing against
05:41tech guys and businessmen.
05:43Ha!
05:44Yeah.
05:45The last part was tongue-in-cheek.
05:46But, like, there's not going to be another Curry.
05:52Nope.
05:53Not like in 5, 10.
05:55There can't be.
05:56I mean...
05:57And I'm dead serious.
05:58Oh, dude.
05:59I agree with you.
06:00It's interesting because as we get older, then athletes are also older, and I'm thinking
06:04about the comps of Steph Curry, and I look at Jerry Rice, who, I'm looking at it now,
06:11he had 343 catches after he turned 37.
06:14So Jerry Rice was a guy, in the early 00s, for you kids who are not old enough to remember,
06:19even when he turned 37, he played until he was 42, and he still was very, very good.
06:25And the other comp is Barry Bonds, which, you know, we can put aside the fact that,
06:30you know, he did things to allow himself to still be good, and if he hadn't, maybe he
06:35wouldn't be as good, so maybe that's not a good comp.
06:38Why not the Brady?
06:39What did he do for it?
06:40I was thinking about here in the Bay, though.
06:41Okay, gotcha.
06:42And, you know, Jerry eventually was an Oakland Raider, remember, and he went to the Super
06:46Bowl with the Raiders, and he was amazing, and I'm just looking at his career, and when
06:50he was 38, he had 90 catches, 75 catches, then 83, then 92.
06:57He had 92 catches as a 40-year-old in the NFL.
07:01So, I mean, Steph has a comp outside of basketball, but you're talking about the real goat in
07:08Jerry Rice.
07:09Well, see, but here's how I look at it, and I get where you guys are coming from if you're
07:13starting to think about greatness in sports and then who we love as Bay Area fans.
07:17I think the only way you can comp this is to ask yourself if you have ever been activated
07:23by the idea of buying a ticket solely to watch somebody who's coming in from out of town,
07:29and that's actually what you want to see, and you want to wear that jersey, and you
07:34want to scream when that person succeeds, even against your own team.
07:38I've never experienced anything like that.
07:39I've never had the desire to do that in my life in any sport, so that's kind of what
07:43I'm talking about.
07:44I have never seen an athlete have an effect on the audience like this person, and I'm
07:49with you, Stiney.
07:51This is why I think people act that way, is no matter your age, you're going on the premise
07:57that you're never going to see this again.
07:59Man.
08:00I mean, even if some kid grows up and spends twice as much time practicing as Steph, doesn't
08:10mean he's going to be like...
08:13I mean, the thing that I've said, what is this, 16th year, 15th year, whatever it is.
08:19Oh my, just think about that.
08:20I've been watching this guy since 2009, and I'm watching my 1500 Steph Curry game, or
08:26it feels like that, and I'm saying to myself in my man cave, you got to be kidding me.
08:33This guy, I can't believe it.
08:3515 years it's been, and he's still making shots where I'm like, I can't believe it.
08:40You got to be kidding me.
08:41I can't believe it.
08:42Right.
08:43Catch and shoot from 33.
08:44And bottoms.
08:45Bottoms.
08:46And leaning, leaning left in somebody's face, whatever it is.
08:52Last night was a great example where he comes out and just, and you mentioned it earlier
08:56about Memphis and their defense, like you got to figure out how to defend him.
09:01What was the goal?
09:02I don't know.
09:03And you guys were talking about the scouting report.
09:05Like if I'm scouting against the Warriors, my scouting report is you and you, you follow
09:12him.
09:13Yes.
09:14Off the bus, in the locker room, during warmups, whatever it is, you two, you get him.
09:18And the fact that, you know, Zach Eadie in the screen role, he's like shuffle, shuffle,
09:24shuffles.
09:25He's not like coming up to trap.
09:27Like what are you doing Memphis?
09:29And they are, and Mark made, made this point in our, our thread that, you know, they're
09:33plummeting, they're likely an eight seed and they're kind of broken.
09:37But I mean, at least defensively, okay, you're going to face the Warriors.
09:41What are you going to do defensively?
09:42Well, you know, we need to stay close to pods when he dribbles and we need to contain Draymond.
09:49Terrible.
09:50Steph Curry.
09:51Don't let him beat you.
09:53You hold Steph to 15 and you win.
09:56That's it.
09:57Best three-pointer of the night might've been, and this I think illustrates what you guys
10:00were talking about.
10:01And I forget who the defender was, it's the, the young kid with the big hair.
10:05Well, well, well, yes, Wells, Wells, the row, a rookie, so he's standing next to Steph.
10:11He's standing next to Steph and Draymond is bringing the ball up.
10:14Okay.
10:15And he kind of takes an outside position on Steph.
10:20In other words, I'm going to cover his right hand, but we're out deep on the perimeter
10:23on the wing, on the left wing.
10:26So he's on Steph's right side.
10:28In other words, wants to push him left, which is kind of where the hoop is.
10:31So Draymond dribbles the ball down and just curls around and stands right in front of
10:36Wells and hands Curry the ball who takes one dribble.
10:40And he's like, I've got the whole left side of the court to myself, man, three deuces.
10:46We're going the other way.
10:47And it's just like, that's the beauty of these three guys.
10:49Like I know that their bodies may not hold up, but they are so much smarter than Memphis
10:53holding out.
10:55There's so much smarter than Memphis.
10:57I mean, I didn't even like, I went through some of the bad plays Memphis made.
11:01I forgot about this one.
11:04Moody makes the three, then Morant comes down and makes a three to cut it to five, 36 seconds
11:10left.
11:11Okay.
11:12Still got life.
11:13They trap Curry in the back court.
11:15They trap him and they make him give it up to pods.
11:21And they let pods dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble.
11:25No foul, no foul, passes the Butler foul.
11:28It's like, what are you doing?
11:31What are you doing?
11:32What did I call it?
11:35Leader ship.
11:36Yeah.
11:37Probably Chris Paul in his prime leader ship.
11:40No problem.
11:41No.
11:42You might go to eight, two.
11:43You're right.
11:44The quintessential look at leadership problem is you get to the end of a game like that
11:49and you're losing.
11:50Throw it to Jaron Jackson Jr.
11:52Here's an idea.
11:53Quit shooting threes, big fella.
11:55This doofus decides, let's do the guns up toward the warrior sidelines and laugh as
12:01we walk off the floor like, dude, y'all just told me everything I need to know about your
12:06entire organization.
12:08And if you're a warrior fan, I hope it makes you triply and quadruply thankful for who's
12:13leading your team.
12:15But Steve's rotations, Mark, I'm concerned about Steve's rotations.
12:19You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco, always live on the
12:24free Odyssey app.
12:25Now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios, Laughing Monk righteously brewed in San Francisco.
12:31I also brought up a play where maybe, you know, if you guys were watching, you might
12:35have noticed.
12:36It was early first quarter.
12:38John got into the lane and tried to shovel a pass to Edie.
12:41Edie fumbled it out of bounds.
12:42Tough catch.
12:43Yeah, great big man catches it.
12:45And they catch John.
12:47He's got that roll of the eyes, body language.
12:49Oh boy.
12:50Just like this guy.
12:51Yep.
12:52And I'm like, OK, we've all, you know, every point guards have that frustration.
12:56I get it.
12:57But first, you can't do that.
12:59You just you just can't.
13:00And then secondly, then what happens later in the game?
13:05One minute left.
13:06He gets caught in the air and he tries to throw a pass to the guy that we all know he
13:11doesn't trust.
13:13And he turns it over.
13:15Well, if you didn't trust him, why should you even thought about making a play for him?
13:20It's like it's just not smart.
13:24And John, go look in the mirror and ask if people trust you.
13:27Exactly.
13:28Your organization doesn't trust you and they shouldn't.
13:31They shouldn't trust him.
13:33So I guess suspended for that.
13:35He's got priors.
13:36Yeah.
13:37Probably.
13:38But like to me, it's just even a bigger issue of like you haven't learned anything.
13:42He's Memphis's problem, so I'm not really worried about it.
13:44I just don't enjoy basketball players or athletes like that.
13:47I really don't like it.
13:49It's very, very good.
13:50It's a very narcissistic feel.
13:52It's all about them.
13:53And they are classically the players front runners who people will say, oh, that's an
13:58NBA one.
13:59And I will be like, no, they're not.
14:01I don't care what their numbers are.
14:03What their talent is, their name value.
14:06That dude's not going to win.
14:08Not as a one.
14:09Because it was a career away.
14:10Because of all of those things, all of those things that we just mentioned.
14:14I'll say this.
14:15At least not now.
14:16I mean, I give the kid a chance to grow up.
14:18He's got to grow up.
14:19Yeah.
14:20Yeah.
14:21He's been through some hell of fine stuff, Stonnie, to where if you didn't get it from
14:23this message in the suspension and you damn near went every viral, when will you get a
14:29dibs?
14:30Maybe never.
14:31I'm not going to make the personality comp to Dame Lillard, but I will make the basketball
14:35comp there where Dame reminds me a lot of Ja.
14:40When Dame was in Portland, he was a bucket getter.
14:42He could score at will.
14:44But even with McCollum, they were never good enough to really get that deep.
14:48I know they made the Western finals once.
14:50But beyond that, Dame is a one.
14:54He's a one-ish.
14:55And for me, if Ja is your second best player, you're really, really good.
14:59If he's your one, especially at this level of maturity, like Mark, your point is well
15:04taken.
15:05And I'm looking at all his turnovers from last night, NBA.com.
15:09You can click on any box and you can see like isolated, all this stuff.
15:13He had four turns in the fourth quarter for his six.
15:17We're in the fourth quarter.
15:18So yeah, if you really are a one at home in a big game for the five seed, you handle your
15:26business.
15:27I like the play you talked about where he jumps and it's like, Oh, here's Zach.
15:31And like Butler's like, what do you give me it?
15:34Yeah.
15:35Give me that.
15:36I'll take that.
15:37Yeah, exactly.
15:38That's another feather in the cap of Curry.
15:40As you guys are sitting here talking, I'm thinking to myself, through the history of
15:44the league, how many like NBA ones who were like, that's a championship one have been
15:51below six, five?
15:53How many of them can you even think of?
15:55Well, do I go Iverson?
15:57They didn't win it, but it's not a bad, you know what I mean?
16:04But other than that, I'm waiting.
16:06Isaiah Thomas.
16:07Okay.
16:08They went back to back.
16:10They did.
16:11They did.
16:12They were the bad boys.
16:13I mean, even Joe Dumars though was only like 6'3", right?
16:16Right.
16:17But I think Isaiah deserves to be there.
16:19Yeah.
16:20Oh, probably.
16:21No problem.
16:22Travis Schlenk, the former GM of the Hawks and now works for the Wizards, he always said
16:26to me that there's no player who walks onto the court with more of a physical disadvantage
16:38and been as great as Steph Curry.
16:40In other words, there's nobody his size or smaller that's ever made an impact on the
16:47game like he has.
16:48Yeah.
16:49It's incredible.
16:51I mean, there have been great guards, but he's a level above.
16:56He absolutely is.
16:57Yeah.
16:58I don't know.
16:59Like last night, like here's the other thing.
17:00I was like, well, you know, put that, add that to the list of his great games.
17:05And I was thinking, well, how long is that?
17:07And I said, I don't know, put it in the top 30, 40.
17:11And he was like, how about 15?
17:12And I was like, that's fine too.
17:14Because the point is, there's so many of them.
17:16And Durant, they were, they were second to none.
17:19They were the, they were, they never were, they didn't make the playoffs last year, year
17:24before the plan.
17:25So I said, okay, what's at stake?
17:27And it was the seeding, like it had never been when they were good.
17:31So that's why this one was, and all we talked about, rightfully so, how's Jimmy going to
17:35do?
17:36And I want to see more.
17:37And I thought he was more aggressive for me.
17:39We'll get to that.
17:40But to see Curry just come remind me of, Goo, relax.
17:44I got this.
17:46And I'm about to show y'all, I'm still a bad.
17:48Where's it ranked this year?
17:49Is that the best one?
17:50It's got to be the best one.
17:52Just because it was the biggest game.
17:54Yeah, right.
17:55Well, I'm in the 56 in Orlando.
17:58And the other thing, and they needed every one of those.
18:01And Goo, this is the beauty of basketball.
18:04It's one of the things that made me fall in love with it.
18:07And it's this.
18:08Let's see if I agree.
18:09Steph Curry by, you know, one of the greatest players of all time.
18:13One of the greatest.
18:16And he needed help.
18:18Oh, no.
18:19Michael needed help.
18:20You know what I'm saying?
18:22Yeah.
18:23I don't know why you didn't.
18:24Well, because when you ask, how come the Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant, oh no, I'm sorry.
18:31You missed it.
18:32You came in on the tail end.
18:33Yeah.
18:34The hashtag random, but he brought it up.
18:36I want a 30 for 30 on one of the greatest scorers to ever play, who I just think, I'm
18:42not mad at him.
18:43I'm disappointed.
18:44In what happened in Brooklyn, where you had two future Hall of Famers and Harden and Kyrie.
18:49Okay.
18:50COVID and yada, yada, yada.
18:51Then you come here in Phoenix, it's not working, but they believed in you.
18:55And I thought you were a connector.
18:56And I just think Kevin Durant's getting somewhat of a pass as to as great as you are.
19:01I now, Willard, put you over in the category of you're just a scorer.
19:06One of the greatest to ever do it.
19:07But you're not a Steph or LeBron.
19:10Because Phoenix, even though the West is thick with Devin Booker and Bill, whatever
19:15you think of him is not chopped liver.
19:19What's going on, Durant?
19:20You are that good.
19:21But I feel like it's whispered.
19:23I think there's space in between you're just a scorer.
19:27And then you're not Steph or LeBron.
19:29You're not Steph or LeBron.
19:31And nobody in the last generation has been like those two to me are on such, such an
19:35island.
19:37The Phoenix space.
19:38Yeah.
19:39There's space in between there.
19:41I don't think he's just a scorer.
19:42But you're right.
19:43He's not Steph or LeBron.
19:44Like he's not he's not that great.
19:46Now I don't I can't speak on Brooklyn.
19:49The situation there.
19:50I have no idea what's going on.
19:51The Phoenix here.
19:52Phoenix is a mess.
19:53Phoenix is.
19:54But how much does he deserve?
19:56I mean.
19:57Criticism.
19:58He can speak on Phoenix.
19:59Not all of it.
20:00Not all of it.
20:01But the coach has just been an absolute swing and a miss.
20:05And everybody is on a different page there.
20:07But the other thing is.
20:10The Brooklyn Nets.
20:11Oh, yeah.
20:12James Harden.
20:13Kyrie Irving.
20:14Kevin Durant.
20:17Three guys that need the ball.
20:20Yep.
20:21Fair.
20:22Kyrie Irving was ball dominant then.
20:24James Harden is ball dominant and Durant's less so.
20:28But you got to get him the ball.
20:31It doesn't work.
20:32That doesn't work.
20:33I'm sorry.
20:34He signed up for it.
20:35That's right.
20:36It doesn't work together.
20:37Right.
20:38And it doesn't work.
20:39I'm looking at the 2020-2021 season in the playoffs where they took Milwaukee to seven
20:44games.
20:45Never forget.
20:46And Milwaukee won the title.
20:47And in game seven, KD had 48 and nine and six.
20:52They didn't have Kyrie yet.
20:53They had James Harden and Blake Griffin.
20:56And KD had 48.
20:58And you know, you lost Milwaukee 1-15, 1-11.
21:02Giannis with 40 and 13.
21:04That was ToeGate.
21:05Right.
21:06It's also why it's easy for people to say, oh my God, how could Oklahoma City get rid
21:12of Harden?
21:13They had Harden, Westbrook, Durant.
21:14I'm like, yeah, you're answering your own question.
21:16Harden, ball dominant.
21:19Westbrook, more ball dominant.
21:21And we'll get into Westbrook later.
21:22Durant's your 30-point score.
21:23It's like, oh, we got it.
21:24I brought it home.
21:25You can't.
21:26You gotta have it.
21:27This guy's champing at the back.
21:28You gotta have it.
21:29He kicks me.
21:30Balance!
21:31That was a choice.
21:32Balance!
21:33How many players have run from Russell Westbrook?
21:36I was talking to Joe, our great associate employee in the kitchen earlier, and he was
21:41talking about, oh, Westbrook, do you see Westbrook?
21:44I thought about it like, how many different teams has he been on, and how many different
21:49players have absolutely run from him?
21:52You go to OKC, and Harden couldn't wait to leave, and KD left, and then Russ went to
21:58wherever else.
21:59It was like eight years no dibs, but I hear ya.
22:02No, but if you are that good of a player, then you're not on 16th.
22:06Look, last night, the night was pitching a perfect game.
22:10I don't know how many of you know that.
22:12I left here a foot above the ground.
22:15Well, your fans turned into Denver fans!
22:17But I was just like, this is so, right, this is so, what a great night, like, the sun,
22:23the rain was gone, we're heading home, the Giants and Warriors are hitting at the same
22:27time.
22:28I'm pulling the downstairs TV upstairs, I'm letting the kids eat on the couch, we spread
22:33everything out, I hit every bet that I played last night, the Warriors win, the Giants win,
22:40this whole thing is cruising.
22:42Now put people to bed and sit back with a glass of I don't know what and watch Jokic
22:47score 60-something points in a double overtime, and it all comes down to 30 seconds of Russell
22:55Westbrook being one of the most brainless basketball players I've ever seen in my life.
23:00Why did he try to score?
23:02I don't know why he tried to score, and then foul, and then foul, I just, I'm like, dude.
23:08It's a layup, dude, make a layup.
23:10Right, but he didn't.
23:11That's, it's first, don't shoot it, and second of all, if you do, make it, make the bunny.
23:16He ruined, and I'm telling you now, don't act like that doesn't matter.
23:21Jokic defended him, but I know that hurt.
23:23He should have left Minnesota right on the Warriors' butt after a big win.
23:28He did.
23:29That would have been huge.
23:30I will say, like.
23:31Perfect is what you called it, a perfect night.
23:33It was a perfect night.
23:34I think the one thing you do, seriously, you do have to keep in mind is that if you know
23:38anything about wolves, they travel in packs, and they come out late at night, and that's
23:45when they start to howl.
23:46It was a hell of a game.
23:47I hope everybody stayed up.
23:48That was incredible.
23:49That was an incredible basketball game.
23:50A double header of great just, wow.
23:51Just, wow.
23:53Two regular season classics.
23:55What a night, man.
23:56All right, Steve Kerr coming up at 5.
23:58Don't go anywhere.
23:59Willer and Dibb's going to take you home on 95-7 the game.
