00:00In this next edition of our First Crop Yearling Previews, we stopped by One Star Farm to visit
00:07Yoshida, a Grade 1 winner on dirt and turf, who hails from the sire line of Sunday Silence.
00:14One Star's Liam O'Rourke said that Yoshida's yearlings seem to have inherited their sire's
00:18competitiveness and strength.
00:22Well Yoshida was a horse that was always a very good physical, very robust, very strong
00:26individual, great shape.
00:28I think he's let down beautifully, he's a great mover, and he's just gone from strength
00:35to strength since he's come to the Stallion Barn at One Star.
00:38So with his babies, we were thrilled to see his babies.
00:42They have a lot of his physical qualities, they have that class, that strength, great
00:47shape.
00:49I think in watching them as foals early on out in the field, you could see that they
00:53were high energy, they were assertive types.
00:56The one really common feedback that I get as I've been visiting farms is you can't give
01:01them enough work.
01:03So I think that's a great quality when they have desire to work and to be competitive,
01:09I think that's a big piece of being a good racehorse.
01:15This colt is the 2021 Yoshida out of Caribbean Sea.
01:19He is entered in Keeneland September with Woodford Thoroughbreds.
01:22You can see he's got a great frame, plenty of leg, he's a strong individual, and has
01:28a great presence of mind.
01:30He's one of several Yoshida yearlings here that we really like, and we're looking forward
01:34to seeing how he grows and develops going into the September sale.
01:40This is our Yoshida colt out of Moon and Stars.
01:43Yoshida was a stallion we were really excited to support here on the farm.
01:48We actually fold and raise Hilda's Passion, the dame of Yoshida.
01:51And then Teddy Custer, one of the partners in the farm, he is the breeder of Hilda's
01:55Passion.
01:56We've got several on the farm, we're excited about all of them.
02:00We really like this colt in particular.
02:02He's very strong, tons of bone, good hip, strong shoulder, a little bit more forward
02:08like I said than our others, so that's why we wanted to showcase him a little bit earlier
02:12in the July sale.
02:14He's an outstanding racehorse, earner of two and a half million, signature win in the Grade
02:20One Woodward at Saratoga.
02:23Also a Grade One winner on turf, winning the Turf Classic on Derby Day.
02:30Just an outstanding race record, a deep race record, and a wonderful pedigree.
02:35He's very prototypical of the Japanese breeding program.
02:39He's out of an elite American race mare.
02:42He's by a son of Sunday Silence.
02:45So we know and we've seen it come to fruition in recent time, the Japanese program.
02:50They breed for class, they breed for versatility, and I think those are two of the big qualities
02:55that Yoshida represents.
02:58He's been really well received.
02:59He bred 148 mares in his first crop in 2020.
03:03That book was ranked third by CPI among those sires that year.
03:08So we're very proud of the types of mares that he's got.
03:12He's been supported by a variety of breeders, both commercial and breed-to-race types.
03:19Try to keep the quality up and have strength in numbers and give them every opportunity
03:23we can, and I think we've done so with Yoshida.
