Shrewsbury 1 Blackpool 2 - Ollie Westbury analysis
Transcript
00:00Well, it is the first defeat of the Gareth Ainsworth era this evening at the Crowd Meadow.
00:07A very, very windy Crowd Meadow. Terrible conditions that did really heavily impact
00:13the game. But Town led, partly due to those conditions actually, as Mal Bennings free
00:18kick from inside his own half, well inside his own half. An absolutely bizarre goal.
00:24One that you'll probably never see again. It was complete and utter unprecedented to
00:31see a goal like that scored in a professional football match. Gave Town the lead in the
00:35fifth minute as he's punt down the field, went over the goalkeeper to give Shrewsbury
00:40the lead. Town then piled on the pressure and probably should have capitalised on that
00:46kind of pressure they had in the opening exchanges of that game. The first 15 minutes they had
00:50Blackpool absolutely penned in. But that last pass, that last bit of quality was always
00:55lacking for Town and they were unable to punish the visitors. Blackpool offered very little
01:01in the first half but they came back out after the break. They had the win behind them, which
01:06basically was a half each really. Shrewsbury dominated when they had the win and Blackpool
01:11were better when they had the win. So, they scored two goals, two very avoidable goals.
01:18Shrewsbury concede two again. That is a habit that Gareth Ainsworth will want to break.
01:24He has seen that they have conceded lots of goals and he has looked back and thinks that
01:30there are things that they can improve and do better. It's a really disappointed night.
01:35It's a bad night in terms of what it does to the Ligue 1 table as Shrewsbury drop back
01:39to the bottom of it and it's a 12th Ligue 1 defeat of the season from 17. If Gareth
01:48Ainsworth didn't know how big a job he has on his hands after an astonishing victory
01:56in his opening game against Birmingham, then he certainly does know now. He was full of
02:00optimism and full of positivity to be fair post-match, firmly believing that they can
02:05go to Cambridge this weekend and get a result. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they can
02:10do some real good work in the next few days at the training ground and they can get a
02:15result at Abbey Stadium this weekend.
