Rotherham v Shrewsbury - Ollie Westbury preview
Transcript
00:00I am here at Shrewsbury's Sundorn Castle training base. As you can see over my
00:06shoulder it is frozen solid here after a very, very cold, cold night indeed. You
00:14can see my breath kind of and the steam coming off. We have just spoken to
00:19Shrewsbury head coach Gareth Ainsworth ahead of the trip to Rotherham this
00:23weekend. He will also be speaking alongside Mickey Moore, CEO Liam Dooley
00:28at tonight's Supporters' Parliament meeting. A few issues there will be with
00:33training today just because of how frozen solid the pitches are. He
00:37reflected for the first time on deadline day this morning. It was the first time
00:43we've had a chance to speak to him since Shrewsbury's deadline day kind of
00:47antics. They got one player through the door, you know, he said that they tried to
00:53get to get one more in and one player let them down and made a U-turn right at
00:57the last minute, which was sort of similar to what he said on Monday
01:02evening in the video that he put out with the club. But there was a little bit
01:05more detail explaining that there was one player that they did
01:09actually miss out on right at the last minute. Some more talk about Vardane
01:13Oliver. He's been back in training for the first time and could feature against
01:16Rotherham for the first time and some of the attributes that he's
01:20kind of brought to the table. And he also said that there was money to spend for
01:23Shrewsbury. He did go on to say there wasn't loads of it, but there was some
01:27money available for them to bring players in if they needed to. But
01:31unfortunately, they could not get the deals that they wanted to over the line.
01:34I'm sure it's not the last that we've heard about deadline day. I'm sure that
01:39we'll hear much more about it. With regards to some of the players that
01:42they have brought in, the likes of Callum Stewart, Riccardo Di Nanga and
01:48Dominic Gape. Loads of praise for Dominic Gape, not just what he does on the pitch
01:52but also the impact that he has had off the field in the short time that he's
01:56been here so far and the fact that he's a leader in the Shrewsbury Town
01:59Dressing Room. An interesting line on Riccardo Di Nanga about the fact that
02:03there could be an opportunity for him to play at right wing-back
02:06potentially. So we'll have to watch with bated breath on that one. The main
02:13newsworthy line to come out of the press conference was that Jason
02:16McCarthy, who we already kind of know about because he's now got a coaching
02:20role at Brighton, but David Wheeler, who became a free agent yesterday, will
02:25not sign for Shrewsbury Town for whatever reason. Town are in the market
02:31for free agents and they are looking at it but David Wheeler will not be a
02:35Shrewsbury Town player. So we can cross that one off the list almost
02:39immediately. They will be in the free agent market and they will be looking
02:44to see what players that they can bring in. With regards to the game this
02:49weekend, obviously a trip to Rotherham. Shrewsbury are still looking for their
02:51first away win under Gareth Ainsworth since he came in as boss at the end of
02:56November. The home form has been immaculate, 10 points from the last 12
02:59available but they will be seeking to right that wrong this weekend when
03:03they make the trip to Yorkshire.
