00:00It has been an interesting afternoon here at Shrewsbury's Sundaun training base where Paul Hurst has spoken to the assembled media ahead of their clash against Barnsley in League One tomorrow afternoon.
00:13It has been a challenging start to the EFL season for Shrewsbury. They have lost nine out of their 13 League One matches.
00:22Some big news coming out of the press conference this afternoon is that Town have written to the EFL, the head of refereeing Mike Jones, over grievances that they have had with officiating in recent weeks.
00:35And they have confirmed that they have made two definite mistakes. There should have been a handball and a penalty awarded to Shrewsbury when it was 1-0 in the game against Exeter.
00:46Mal Benning was the man who struck it against Ryan Woods from close range. They should have had a penalty for that one but they didn't.
00:53And they also should have scored an equaliser. I think we all knew it from what you could see against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening.
01:03Tom Bloxham with a brilliant strike late on in the day. It was ruled off for offside. John Marcus, the man allegedly interfering with play. But that has been confirmed that he was not and that goal should have also stood.
01:19There was also some contention around a third error that Shrewsbury complained about which was the second goal against Exeter. Josh McGuinness scoring from close range. They have not admitted that that was the incorrect decision made but they have acknowledged the fact that the official, the linesman in that case, is not up with play and therefore cannot make the right decision.
01:43It's a difficult one. Paul Hurst was very keen to point out that he didn't want it to be any deflection. It is important in these circumstances that town do not deflect. Ultimately they are in a lowly position in the table and have not taken a great deal of points from their opening League One games.
02:01But these decisions are really important. They would be in a better place or arguably be in a better place. They certainly would have taken a point from Bristol Rovers given the late nature of that equaliser from Tom Bloxham. Goals change games and it changes the complexion of games and that is the same for the game against Exeter.
02:22The penalty that wasn't given. So it's important that town don't get too carried away with talking about officiating mistakes, albeit I think we all have to acknowledge that they have been very, very hard done by. Especially in recent weeks, probably less so at the start of the season. But in recent weeks they have been really on the rough end of some decisions and that does generally go the way it goes when you are down at the bottom end of the table.
02:52It's important though that they try to get back to winning ways tomorrow against Barnsley. Hurst has confirmed that George Nurse, although he's got a very deep cut, he mentioned on Tuesday night that there's some bone that you can see how deep that cut was on his head. He had to go off in the 35th minute but he is okay. He'll be bandaged up but he should be good to go ahead of the clash tomorrow.
03:14Jordan Shipley has kind of picked up his training. He did mention a slight rolled ankle today but it's looking like it will be next week when they may pick up his training, whether he will be available to play against Salford or not is another something up for debate.
