Blackpool 1 Shrewsbury 1 - Ollie Westbury analysis
Transcript
00:00Shrewsbury Town got 20-25 off to a positive start as they came from behind to get a point
00:07here at Bloomfield Road against Blackpool. It was a thoroughly deserved point for the
00:12first 45 minutes and the second 22 minutes of the second half. Shrewsbury were a good
00:16value for the spoils that they take back to Shropshire with them today. It was a very
00:24disciplined, battling, resilient All Qualities that we have seen from Gareth Hainsworth's
00:28side in the last couple of weeks over the Christmas period. It means they are now four
00:33games unbeaten since that game at Wigan, since that comeback, and it was that comeback which
00:38was inspired by Tom Bloxham again. This time, 10 minutes from time, he gets played in by
00:43Fonzo Odo who came off the bench and made a real impact. He runs in on goal, he fires
00:47across Harry Trier and into the corner of the net and Shrewsbury find themselves level.
00:52The first 45 minutes, Shrewsbury, they were deep in their 4-5-1 formation, they got behind
00:57the ball really, really well. They defended in numbers. As soon as the opposition went
01:02over the halfway line, they engaged, they pressed, they harried. That is what we have
01:07seen from Shrewsbury, they have managed to tighten up from a defensive perspective. That's
01:11two goals conceded now in the last three games and a clean sheet. Ultimately, if you only
01:16concede one goal or you keep a clean sheet, then you are much more likely to get a point.
01:21For Shrewsbury, for too long, they have conceded too many, too often, 2s and 3s and in some
01:27cases 4s, which was at Cambridge and against Wycombe. But they have now managed to tighten
01:31up at the back and that makes them much more competitive. As we have seen, they score in
01:35every one of Gareth Ainsworth's games so far and that kept going today too. It was a deserved
01:42point. Shrewsbury were supported by their loyal fans that made the journey to Lancashire
01:47on a very windy day, on a very windy beginning to 2025. They now move on to late Norwich
01:54where they will try to keep up the momentum, the four-match unbeaten streak and Gareth
02:00Ainsworth will be hoping that now that that gap has been reduced to just five points at
02:06the bottom of the Ligue 1 table, they will be hoping to make even more indents into that
02:11next time out. For all your reaction, head to shrubstar.com.
