00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now, the weather pattern across the country remains very mobile, but also we continue to see spells of cloud and rain.
00:13It is mild across many parts, although an intrusion of colder air can't be ruled out through the next 24 hours
00:19across Scotland and Northern Ireland, feeling cold in the wind.
00:22But notice these weather fronts become slow-moving, straddling the central swathe of the country,
00:28and yet more cloud and rain then arrives through Thursday, so more wet weather to come.
00:33The winds will pick up again, but the air again will slowly become milder further north for a time.
00:40Cold air never too far away across the far north of Scotland, though.
00:43For the time being, there's a lot of cloud around Patchy Drizzle and low clouds across the hills,
00:48as this rain across Northern Ireland through this evening becomes persistent.
00:52It's pushing across Scotland as well, with some high rainfall totals over the west there.
00:57Now, across England and Wales, a bit damp, particularly towards the west.
01:01A keen breeze, though, keeping temperatures exceptionally mild for this time of year.
01:05The air is coming in from a mild direction, whereas for the far north-west of Scotland,
01:10the winds will pick up, touching gale force along the coast, and we'll see some showers.
01:14The air turns colder.
01:16But for much of the country, it's a cloudy start to the day, and it's also wet across Scotland,
01:22Northern England, as well as Wales.
01:25The rain clears Northern Ireland through the morning.
01:27The central belt's seeing more cloud, but that should clear up as well with some brighter skies.
01:32This rain will be persistent across Northern England, Wales, particularly northern and mid-Wales.
01:37Further south, we could see some Patchy Drizzle over the west country,
01:41but some broken cloud anywhere from the midlands, south Lincolnshire, down towards the southeast.
01:46And here, temperatures certainly will be very high for this time of year, for mid-March,
01:52coming in around 14 or 15 Celsius.
01:54At least for Scotland and Northern Ireland, you'll see some sunshine through the afternoon.
01:59There's a real back edge to this cloud, which just hovers across the far south of Northern Ireland,
02:04as well as border regions, but even so, towards the north and east,
02:07you'll see some brighter weather, frequent showers though,
02:10and a cold wind across the north-west gales, again, extending towards Orkney as well as Shetland.
02:16So this rain continues to bother Northern England, northern parts of Wales,
02:22through Wednesday evening and overnight.
02:24And again, some heavier pulses can't be ruled out,
02:28as it slowly nudges in across southern counties of Scotland, pushing across Northern Ireland as well.
02:34Now to the south, again, it's a mild night.
02:37We'll see some clearer skies towards the east, but always more clouds across the west country.
02:42And some clearer skies across central and northern areas of Scotland.
02:45We could even see a local frost here to start the day on Thursday, and also some bright weather.
02:51Whereas for Shetland and Orkney, a few showers, and again, windy across Shetland.
02:56Now through Thursday morning, let's pick up on that weather front straddling the country.
03:02It is moving in across the central belt, and again, more rain across Northern England,
03:06particularly towards the north-west, where it could be persistent.
03:09Rain comes and goes across Northern Ireland, the odd heavier pulse can't be ruled out,
03:13and we'll see some showers moving in across the south-west as well as Wales.
03:17Brighter skies in Shelter, further east across central and eastern areas of England.
03:22And again, temperatures here, 15 Celsius, 9 or 10 across Scotland, 12 for Northern Ireland,
03:27and that pretty much is the same for Northern England and southern parts of Scotland.
03:32So this weather system here continues to bring some wet weather, and again,
03:36some heavier bursts can't be ruled out through Thursday evening and overnight.
03:42This whole system, again, pushing north-eastwards through Thursday evening.
03:46Clearer skies across the far north until much later, and into Friday it's pretty much showery wherever you are.
03:51Now for more details about the weather and the deep dive this week, it's with Annie Shuttleworth, and I'll see you later.
