00:00Hello, Storm Henk has been named by the Met Office because of the risk of damaging and
00:04disruptive wind gusts during the rest of Tuesday. It might be the new year but we've got the
00:09same old weather patterns in charge at the moment. A powerful jet stream coming in from
00:13the Atlantic picking up areas of low pressure. A number of lows on this chart but it's this
00:17feature, a series of weather fronts and just to the south of the triple point where these
00:25weather fronts meet, we've got tightly packed ice bars and this feature has been named Storm
00:29Henk because of the risk of very strong winds across southern parts of the U.K. The wind
00:34gust graphic here with the key on the right just indicates the risk of 50, 60 and in some
00:41places 70 or 80 mph wind gusts during the rest of Tuesday. The worst affected areas
00:45likely to be North Cornwall, North Devon through the central swathe of the U.K. and that's
00:51where an amber warning has been issued. A broad yellow warning across central and southern
00:55parts of the U.K. 50 or 60 mph wind gusts, perhaps 70 around exposed coastal parts but
01:01within the amber warning area there is that risk of 80 mph wind gusts for exposed coastal
01:06parts and 60, perhaps even 70 inland. Also a yellow rain warning with the risk of 15
01:14to 30 mm of rainfall building up during the rest of Tuesday and taking into account Monday
01:19night's rain as well. In some places we could see 50 mm falling onto very saturated
01:25ground of course. So, wind and rain the chief hazards across southern parts of the U.K.
01:31and with those wind gusts we're likely to see some damaging wind speeds and also disruption
01:37transport and some very dangerous coastal conditions across southern parts. The rain
01:42moves up through the Midlands into Northern England as well as North Wales edging into
01:46Southern Scotland but the heaviest conditions will be across Northern England and the North
01:51Midlands during the rest of Tuesday. Now, for Scotland we're going to see a band of
01:56persistent rain and some very windy weather here also across the far north of Scotland
02:00especially Orkney and into Shetland. Shetland's cold but the rest of the U.K. about average
02:05or above average for the time of year. Showers into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland
02:10and heading into Tuesday evening well we're likely to see a spell of snow for some parts
02:15of Shetland because that's where the cold air sits and those very strong wind gusts
02:20are also remaining across the far north of Scotland. But the strongest winds further
02:23south well they ease but it stays blustery overnight with once the main area of rain
02:29moves through further showers coming in from the west and southwest. The heaviest showers
02:33will be affecting western parts with some clear spells further east but either way because
02:38of the wind, because of the cloud and the rain it's not going to be a particularly chilly
02:42night for most of us. That is apart from Shetland where we've got that snow especially over
02:47the hills. Now as we start off Wednesday it is a blustery start with further showers
02:52coming in and even some longer spells of rain for the likes of western and northern Scotland
02:57but the showers further south will increasingly be interspersed by some breaks in the clouds,
03:02some sunshine coming through so certainly scope for a few brighter spells certainly
03:07compared with Tuesday. It's staying blustery though that's going to make it feel a bit
03:11colder 9 to 11 Celsius in the south, 6 to 9 further north and the persistent rain continues
03:18there across the far north with a strong wind once again accompanying it. The blustery showers
03:24continue into Wednesday evening and really it's a similar theme into Thursday and to
03:30a lesser extent by Friday because through the second half of the week we've got higher
03:36pressure starting to build. So finally a break in all the wet and windy stuff but for the
03:42time being it's Dorb Henk, thanks for the rest of Tuesday.
