00:00Hello again, I do hope you've managed to make the most of the fine wintry weather
00:04many of us have had through Sunday but if we take a look at the cause of this
00:09well starting off across the Atlantic in America you can see there is a large
00:13temperature contrast at the moment. Towards the south it's very warm whereas
00:17in northern parts temperatures here have fallen below minus 40 Celsius for some
00:21so very cold indeed. Because of this large temperature gradient the jet
00:25stream is very strong and running across America and then across the
00:29Atlantic as it does so it meanders northwards and therefore avoids the UK.
00:34As a result we have high pressure at the moment but into Monday that is going to
00:38drift away towards the east and then a weather front is going to start to push
00:41in from the northwest. Back to the here and now and looking at the details as we
00:46go through the end of Sunday holding on to the clear skies across much of
00:49England and Wales through the night but a cloudier picture across parts of
00:53Scotland and Northern Ireland. Here there will be some outbreaks of drizzly
00:56rain and also some strong blustery winds too. Because of the cloud and the wind
01:00temperatures here aren't going to drop particularly low many places staying in
01:04mid single figures but further east and south with the clear skies it's going to
01:08be a cold and frosty night. The frost could be quite harsh for some with
01:12temperatures perhaps falling as low as minus 4 or minus 5 Celsius in prone
01:16rural spots and watch out for some fog and freezing fog particularly across
01:20parts of East Anglia but also towards Kent as we go through the early hours of
01:24Monday and towards Monday's morning rush hour. Otherwise as we go through Monday
01:28and yes a bright frosty start once any of that fog and freezing fog clears away
01:32for much of England and Wales but that cloud in the northwest is gradually
01:36going to feed its way a little bit further south and eastwards. As a result
01:39many places turning a little bit cloudy as we go through the day though still
01:43some brightness towards the southeast. Some thick cloud lingering across many
01:47parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland still some outbreaks of drizzly rain and
01:51some blustery winds but I'm expecting some brighter breaks to develop across
01:55northern parts of Scotland and here temperatures are likely to be highest
01:59probably getting into double figures Celsius. Through the end of the day on
02:03Monday we are going to see that front that I mentioned earlier arriving from
02:06the northwest so a spell of rain reaching the Western Isles and then
02:09pushing across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as we go through the
02:13night. Doesn't look particularly heavy but it is going to bring some strong
02:16winds with it. Because of the cloud the rain and the winds again it's going to
02:19be another mild night across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but clear
02:23skies once more for many parts of England and Wales. So again a widespread
02:28and harsh frost temperatures could even be a touch lower than through Sunday
02:32night. So very frosty start on Tuesday morning and again there'll be some fog
02:36and freezing fog to watch out for as well as we head through into Tuesday
02:40morning's rush hour. Through Tuesday itself and starting off with a bit of a
02:43northwest-southeast split, drier, brighter towards the southeast with some
02:47cloud and rain further north and west. But as that front pushes its way a
02:50little bit further southwards to lie across more central parts of the UK as
02:54we go into the afternoon you can see that rain really breaks up so not
02:57bringing a huge amount of rain most places staying dry. Dry and bright either
03:01side of this front as well with the highest temperatures likely again to be
03:05across the north of the UK could just about get into double figures whilst in
03:09the south temperatures around or a touch below average for the time of year. So
03:13feeling rather chilly despite the fact that there'll be quite a bit of winter
03:16sunshine around. Whatever you're up to I do hope you enjoy the rest of your week
03:20and remember you can keep up to date with the forecast on both the Met Office
03:23website, our app and our social media channels. See you later.
