00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the week ahead. A mixture of
00:04bright spells but also hit-and-miss heavy downpours is expected throughout
00:09much of this week. Always the risk of more prolonged rain at times, mainly
00:15Thursday, Friday and Saturday. More on that in a moment. Tuesday at least looks
00:21like the quietest day of the week. There'll be some sunshine first thing.
00:24Shower clouds will get going through the morning across Northern Ireland, Western
00:28and Central Scotland. But I think the main risk area for the liveliest
00:32downpours will be across Central and Eastern England. Again they'll be hit-and-miss.
00:36Not everyone will see one but where they do occur expect some heavy rain and
00:40large rainfall totals in a short period of time. Away from the showers, sunny
00:45spells and temperatures a degree or two either side of 20 Celsius. So feeling
00:50pleasant enough if you're not under one of those downpours. Wednesday, similar a
00:56sunny start. A bit of a chill in the air actually first thing given a cool night
01:00that precedes Wednesday morning and then once more showers start to develop. I
01:05think more widely compared to Tuesday but again they're going to be hit-and-miss
01:09where you get hit by one. Well there could be a rumble of thunder, could be
01:13some hail even and some very heavy rainfall but they will be hit-and-miss.
01:18Away from the showers, 22 Celsius and some sunshine. Then the weather turns
01:23more widely unsettled by Thursday and Friday. Now this is the low pressure
01:27that's coming along later in the week. On Monday at the time of recording it's
01:32just leaving North America. Then it gets picked up by the jet stream and it rides
01:37the jet stream across the Atlantic. The jet stream deepens the low and then it
01:41basically keeps it going as it approaches the UK and it ends up here by
01:46Thursday morning. This occluded front coming along bringing a spell of more
01:51prolonged rainfall. As it pushes in from the southwest during Thursday morning it
01:55turns to showers but some very heavy rainfall I think in places. Elsewhere to
02:00the north and the east a bright start. Some showers get going through the day
02:04before the more prolonged rain moves through mainly affecting southern parts
02:08of the UK during Thursday afternoon. The winds pick up as well and it will feel
02:12cool with that wind and the rain. Now later Thursday that low starts to become
02:18slow-moving. What happens is the jet stream gets a little bit of a dip in it
02:22out towards the west there nudging the low a little further north and then the
02:27low becomes detached from the jet stream and becomes slow-moving as it ends up
02:31close to the northeast of the UK. So with that low close to the northeast of the
02:36UK bands of rain or showers are likely to spiral back into eastern Scotland the
02:41far northeast of England and there is the risk of some very large rainfall
02:45totals building up through Friday and into Saturday for central and eastern
02:49parts of Scotland. Certainly one that will be keeping a close eye on over the
02:53next few days. Elsewhere bright spells and slow-moving showers or even some
02:57thunderstorms. The weather stays cool and changeable unsettled as we end the
03:03working week and go into the weekend. And this is how it's looking on Saturday
03:07with that low pressure close to the northeast of the UK. Heavy rain or
03:10showers wrapped around it maintaining a very unsettled look for the weekend. But
03:17I think the driest and brightest weather will be out towards the west and
03:21southwest and it's likely to settle down a little more by Sunday with the more
03:25classic mixture of bright spells and showers. Follow us on social media we'll
03:29keep you updated as always through these channels. Bye bye.
