00:00Welcome along to your Bank Holiday weekend weather forecast.
00:04The weather is on the change for this long weekend,
00:07but still there'll be plenty of fine weather around.
00:11Just need to pick your day.
00:12High pressure has been controlling our weather all week,
00:15bringing a lot of dry weather.
00:17But it is on its way out.
00:19It's going to slink away to the south,
00:21allowing these weather fronts to topple in from the north.
00:24And that will bring some clouds, certainly,
00:26and in places some rain.
00:28On Saturday, that rain is mostly going
00:29to be for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:31whereas the high holds on for England and Wales.
00:33So here, there will be quite a bit of sunshine around,
00:36I suspect.
00:37However, by the time we get to Saturday night,
00:39that high is finally pushed away by this area of low pressure.
00:42Not a particularly powerful or deep area of low pressure,
00:46not a lot of isobars with it.
00:47So it is weakening as it pushes southwards,
00:50but it will bring more cloud on Sunday
00:52with a few showers around as well.
00:54And then by Monday, well, we're really
00:56a bit twixt and between weather systems.
00:59Not a lot of isobars in the charts.
01:00The winds will be light.
01:02So it really does depend whether you get the cloud or the sunshine
01:04as to the type of weather you're going to have on bank holiday
01:07Monday, and the devil will be in the detail.
01:10OK, let's go through days one at a time,
01:13and we'll start with Saturday with that high pressure still
01:16in control across England and Wales.
01:18It'll be another cold start with clear skies,
01:20a touch of frost likely across the heart of England and Wales,
01:23for sure.
01:24But for many here, it's going to be a fine day, probably
01:26a brighter day on the east coast of England.
01:28Some sunny spells here, but a very different day
01:30for Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:32as those weather fronts topple in.
01:34A very wet day for the Highlands and the Western Isles,
01:37and that rain spreading steadily through the afternoon
01:40over Northern Ireland into the central belt of Scotland
01:42and across the south and the east of Scotland
01:44by the end of the day.
01:45That rain will be quite heavy, accompanied
01:47by a strengthening wind in the northwest.
01:49As I said, not very pleasant over the Highlands.
01:51Whereas for most of England and Wales,
01:53a pretty good looking Saturday.
01:54Dry, fine, good spells of sunshine,
01:56temperatures up into the mid or even high teens in places.
02:00A cooler feel, though, with that cloud and rain
02:02across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:04Now, as we've seen, the weather system bringing that rain
02:07is going to be pushing its way southwards during Saturday
02:10night and Sunday.
02:11So increasing the cloud as it slips southwards,
02:15it does mean that Saturday night won't be as cold,
02:18or unlikely to see as much frost around.
02:21But it does also mean that Sunday
02:23will be a cloudier day for England and Wales.
02:25Now, difficult to pin the detail down on the amounts of rain
02:29we're going to see.
02:30I think it will be showery in nature,
02:32and quite damp across a good part of England and Wales.
02:34But we may not see much rain at all across the southeast.
02:37Could stay dry here.
02:38And for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:40we're likely to see brighter skies come
02:42in the afternoon, some sunshine, and maybe just one or two
02:44showers.
02:45And it will be a warmer day for Scotland and Northern Ireland
02:47as well, particularly if we do get some sunshine poking
02:50through, easily up to 15, 16, maybe 17 Celsius.
02:54But for England and Wales, with more cloud,
02:57it won't be as warm, with temperatures back
02:59into the low teens at best.
03:01And if it is a bit damp, that's not
03:03going to feel very pleasant.
03:04But the winds will, again, be light.
03:06And we've got those light winds again on Monday.
03:09Again, here, the devil really will be in the detail.
03:12This range, it's hard to pin down
03:14where we're likely to see any sunshine.
03:16But generally, it looks fairly cloudy on Bank Holiday Monday.
03:19And there will be a few scattered showers around.
03:22But keep up to date with the forecast for the details
03:25on Monday if you've got plans.
03:27Certainly, temperatures should be back on the way up
03:29across England and Wales, back up to 16, 17 degrees,
03:32and further north, 15 or 16, perhaps a little higher
03:35if we do see some sunshine.
03:37So if you've got plans for Bank Holiday Monday,
03:39say, stay up to date with the latest forecasts.
