00:00Welcome to your weather for the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:03Plenty going on this week.
00:04There are signs of calmer, drier weather
00:06towards the end of the week.
00:08But certainly for the time being, expect showers,
00:11mostly across the east on Monday afternoon
00:13from this weather front.
00:14But then as this one moves in, they'll
00:16mostly be across western areas during the course of Tuesday.
00:20And then this low pressure just kind of sits in and dominates
00:24our weather, bringing lots of showers for all areas
00:26on Wednesday and Thursday.
00:28Beyond that, however, we could just
00:30start to see that area of low pressure edging away,
00:33allowing higher pressure to build in,
00:35certainly across the south, where
00:37things should be turning drier, sunnier, and a bit warmer
00:40as we head towards the weekend.
00:41But always these weather fronts threatening more cloud and rain
00:44across the north and the west.
00:47OK, let's rewind, come back to Tuesday's forecast
00:50when we're definitely still in the influence
00:52of this area of low pressure.
00:53This weather front moving in, bringing
00:55quite a bit of persistent rain, actually, on Tuesday.
00:57Certainly initially for Northern Ireland,
00:58but lasting for most of the day across western Scotland,
01:01particularly in the southwest of Scotland,
01:03where there is a Met Office yellow warning in place.
01:05That rain will spread into western parts of England
01:08and Wales by the afternoon.
01:10But actually, for much of central England,
01:12much of eastern England, it's a fine day on Tuesday.
01:15Drier than Monday, brighter with some sunny spells.
01:18And it's in the east where we'll see the top temperatures,
01:2123, maybe 24 Celsius.
01:22That'll feel pretty warm, whereas further west
01:25with the cloud and the rain, increasing wind.
01:27We're only looking at temperatures in the high teens.
01:29The persistent rain should clear from Northern Ireland,
01:31but we're looking at some heavy showers
01:33here during the afternoon.
01:35Quite blustery conditions, too.
01:37An area of low pressure then dominates
01:38through the middle of the week.
01:39The ice bar is still pretty close together.
01:42Just swirling around it, we're going to see bands of showers
01:46moving across the UK.
01:47So on Wednesday, there's two areas
01:49we're keeping a close eye on, parts of northeast England,
01:52where the showers, particularly come the afternoon
01:55and evening, could turn very heavy indeed.
01:58And out towards the southwest, where
02:00there's the potential for thunderstorms as well.
02:02Elsewhere, the showers are a bit more scattered,
02:03a bit more hit and miss.
02:04So decent chance of dry and brighter weather
02:07for Western Scotland.
02:08Certainly a brighter day here compared to Tuesday.
02:11Northern Ireland as well.
02:12And not too many showers, probably
02:13across East Anglia and the southeast,
02:15where again, we could see temperatures in the mid-20s,
02:18whereas most of us are looking at 20 degrees at best,
02:21and more typically in the high teens.
02:24The low still with us on Thursday.
02:26There is just a bit of uncertainty
02:28about a plume of warmer air, bringing some thundery showers
02:32close to eastern England.
02:33At the moment, it looked like they'll stay out in the North
02:36Sea, but that's something we need to keep an eye on.
02:38Generally, under the influence of that low pressure,
02:40it is going to be another day where
02:42there'll be a bit of sunshine, but there'll
02:44be a lot of showers.
02:45And nowhere immune from those showers,
02:47I don't think, during Thursday.
02:49And again, some of them could be pretty heavy.
02:51With the ice bars opening up, the wind's not as strong,
02:54which means the showers will be more slow-moving.
02:56So the potential for them to cause some more disruption.
03:00That low pressure just starting to fill further
03:04as we head into Friday.
03:05The area of high pressure just starting
03:07to exert its influence across the South.
03:10So although Friday is still a day of showers,
03:12I think there's a good chance that the South
03:15and East of England won't see too many at all
03:17and stay mostly dry, as the showers
03:19will be focused further north and west,
03:21again, closer to that area of low pressure.
03:23Again, temperatures generally around or a touch below average
03:27and feeling cooler when the showers come along.
03:29But that high pressure does look like influencing things
03:32a little more across the South, in particular,
03:35as we head into the weekend.
03:36The position of these weather fronts
03:38open to some doubt at this stage,
03:40but stay up to date if you've got plans for the weekend.
03:43But generally, the north and west
03:45looking as if it'll be cloudy with some outbreaks of rain
03:47further south and east into the weekend.
03:49Decent chance of something drier, brighter,
03:52and a little bit warmer.
