This week will be another mild one and in the south another largely dry one too. There are some signs of something a little colder at the weekend as Alex Deakin explains

00:00Hello, welcome to the weather for the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:04It'll be a little cooler through the middle of the week,
00:06but overall this week is going to remain pretty mild.
00:10Signs of things may be turning colder into the weekend.
00:14Through the week it will also be fairly windy,
00:16especially across the northern half of the UK,
00:18and not a lot of rain across the south.
00:21If we run through the whole week you can see why.
00:23High pressure is always nearby to the south,
00:25low pressure systems running close by to northern Britain
00:29and their weather fronts will at times bring some patchy rain.
00:32And notice the ice bars are fairly close together
00:35and particularly close to those low pressure systems.
00:37That's why we'll see the strongest winds across the north.
00:40But this high pressure generally keeping things dry across much of the south.
00:45Let's rewind the clock then and go through it day by day
00:48because we're going to start with a weak weather front
00:51sitting across the country during Monday night.
00:54That is just a zone of cloud really
00:56across parts of England and Wales on Tuesday morning.
00:58Could be some fog around first thing as well that may take a while to clear.
01:02A more active weather system though will bring a spell of rain
01:05across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:07It's going to be a blustery day across the north as well,
01:09particularly in the far north where we could see gales at times.
01:12But further south the winds remain pretty light
01:15so mist and fog could take a while to clear, generally pretty cloudy.
01:19But if we see some brightness, which we could in a few spots,
01:22temperatures could easily get up into the teens,
01:24generally another fairly mild day.
01:27That weather system tends to clear through during Tuesday night.
01:31Notice the isobars still pretty close together.
01:33Just a slight push in the pressure system
01:36means a slight change in wind direction for Wednesday.
01:39So it will be a little cooler but generally an awful lot brighter as well.
01:43I think we'll see some good spells of sunshine for England and Wales.
01:46There will always be showers coming into Scotland
01:48and with the colder air they will be a little wintry over the tops of the hills.
01:52Nothing unusual about that of course,
01:54but we haven't seen much of that so far this autumn.
01:57Later on, cloud will thicken across Northern Ireland with some patchy rain here.
02:01But again for England and Wales, Wednesday is a mostly dry day
02:04with sunny spells and a fairly brisk breeze.
02:07By the time we get to Wednesday evening,
02:10that cloud and rain pushing into Northern Ireland from this weather front
02:13that topples across the country as you head into Thursday.
02:16That's a warm front so it reintroduces the mild air
02:19and also brings back quite a lot of cloud.
02:22So for many, Thursday will be a grey day.
02:24Rain at times across Northern and Western Scotland.
02:27A bit of patchy rain, mostly over the hills I suspect
02:30for Northern England, Northern Ireland, maybe Wales too.
02:33But much of the south and east will be dry.
02:36It will be predominantly cloudy but look at the numbers.
02:38Temperatures easily getting into the teens.
02:40A few places could be a little higher across say northeast Scotland
02:43if we see some sunny spells.
02:46During Thursday night and into Friday,
02:48a low pressure system heads up towards Iceland.
02:51Again the isobars pretty close together across Scotland
02:53so it will be fairly windy here on Friday
02:56but high pressure holding on across the south.
02:58Still a lot of cloud across the country
03:01and with light winds across the south,
03:03could be some morning mist and fog almost any morning this week.
03:06But apart from a bit of drizzle here and there over the hills,
03:09much of the UK will be dry.
03:11That weather front there will bring more rain it looks like across Scotland.
03:14Some question marks about the timing of it as it does start to slip further south.
03:18But again mostly pretty mild for mid to late November
03:21with temperatures easily double figures
03:24and in some places getting into the teens.
03:26And again northeast Scotland could see temperatures jump up here
03:30if we see any brightness.
03:32But that weather front will it looks like push its way southwards
03:34as we head into the weekend
03:36and that may open the door to something of a change.
03:39Behind these weather fronts looking further north,
03:42there is some quite chilly air.
03:44And that colder air does look like it will push south during the weekend.
03:48So still pretty mild it looks like for most on Saturday
03:51with many places looking dry.
03:53But hints of something colder by the time we get to Sunday.
03:57That's something we'll firm up on as the week goes on.
03:59Make sure you keep across all things from the Met Office
