00:02Hit and miss downpours today, so some big thunderstorms
00:06in places, whilst many areas will stay dry.
00:09The satellite picture is a bit of a mess.
00:11This line of cloud is a cold front,
00:13which will sweep across the country tonight,
00:16introducing cooler conditions for the weekend.
00:18But for the time being, we're watching
00:20the thunderstorms break out in the warm and humid air still
00:23in place, particularly northeast England up
00:25into southeast Scotland.
00:26In this zone, that's where we've got the greatest
00:29risk of some big thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain,
00:33and lightning.
00:34Many other areas, though, will stay dry.
00:36Good spells of sunshine across a good part of Scotland,
00:38a bit misty around the coasts.
00:40Cloudier further west with a few showers,
00:42and then this line of rain creeping in,
00:44introducing cooler conditions.
00:46The warmth persisting in the east,
00:48so we could still get 25, maybe 26 Celsius
00:51with a bit of sunshine.
00:53As we go through the evening, though,
00:54that line of rain further south and west
00:56will start to swing its way in.
00:58Still a potential for thunderstorms
01:00well into the evening spreading into southeast Scotland.
01:03That band of cloud and rain tends
01:05to clear those thunderstorms away and then
01:08clear spells developing.
01:09And because that is a cold front,
01:12finally introducing colder air.
01:14If we rewind it and then run through the sequence
01:17with the temperatures, you can see it's still very warm
01:19and humid this evening.
01:21But steadily, as this cold front moves in,
01:23we'll introduce the fresher conditions by dawn.
01:26It's still going to be quite warm and humid
01:28and difficult for sleeping this evening,
01:29particularly in eastern areas.
01:31And of course, it takes a while for your house
01:33to properly cool down.
01:34But certainly by dawn, a fresher feel outside
01:37and that fresher feel in place for all of us
01:39through this weekend.
01:40That weather front will bring some rain
01:42across northern Scotland initially,
01:44but pushing away and then plenty of sunshine
01:46over northeast Scotland and eastern England.
01:48I don't think we'll see too many showers here either.
01:50Most of the day will be dry.
01:52But for the Midlands, western parts of England,
01:54Wales, Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland,
01:57expect showers to come and go through the day.
01:59And they will come and go through the day
02:01because of the wind.
02:01It's going to be pretty gusty around western coasts,
02:05especially, but generally quite a breezy day.
02:08Sunny spells though across the east.
02:09And so here, you can get out the breeze temperatures
02:12up to 22, 23 degrees.
02:14That'll feel pretty pleasant.
02:15But further west, quite a bit cooler.
02:17Only in the high teens, add on that wind,
02:19and particularly when the showers come along,
02:21it will feel an awful lot cooler.
02:24Those showers will continue to drift around
02:26and spread further north as we go through Saturday evening.
02:29One or two heavy ones, but again,
02:31they are tending to move through fairly rapidly.
02:34You can see this big swirl out to the west of Ireland.
02:38That is an area of low pressure.
02:39That's why our weather is changing.
02:41And it's not really moving very far.
02:43The ice above is still close together.
02:44So staying windy through Saturday night.
02:47And again, into Sunday, blustery conditions in the west
02:51and seasonably windy with that low nearby,
02:53lots of showers for Northern Ireland
02:55and across Scotland.
02:56Further away from that low,
02:57you are the better chance of staying dry and fine.
02:59So East Anglia and the southeast,
03:01again, generally dry with sunny spells on Sunday.
